) is the pen name of Nikolay Daniilovich Perumov (Russian: Николай Даниилович Перумов; born 21 November 1963), a Russian fantasy and science fiction writer.
Perumov was born November 21, 1963 in Leningrad, USSR. He began writing short stories since he was a teenager, and after reading The Lord of the Rings in the early 1980s, he became a fantasy fan. After studying at the Leningrad Polytechnical Institute, Perumov worked at a research institute, and later as a translator.
In 1985-1991 he his debut 'Кольцо Тьмы ' (The Ring of Darkness), a fantasy triology, which consisted of two novels: Эльфийский Клинок (Elven Blade),Черное Копье (Black Lance)and Адамант Хенны. The events of the book took place in J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth, 300 years after the War of the Ring. Perumov initially regarded his novel as just a fan fiction written for friends, until one of his colleagues offered to publish it. In 1993 the duology, re-edited and renamed 'Кольцо Тьмы' (The Ring of Darkness) was published in Severo-Zapad publishing, which paid Perumov just $300. The Ring of Darkness has sold at least 100,000 copies, and ranked high in popularity among Russian fantasy readers. At the same time it also provoked a controversy in Tolkien fandom. Some Tolkien fans considered that no one has the right to write sequels to The Lord of the Rings and to change Middle-earth's history. Other critics argue that Perumov eroded the edge between Good and Evil by giving Uruk-hai humanlike behaviour.
After the success of his debut, Perumov decided to start a career of professional writer. He wrote the novel 'Гибель Богов' (Godsdoom), the first to be set in Упорядоченное (The Consistent), his universe of multiple connected worlds. The Consistent became the main locale of his following books, including the most known, 8-volume series Хранитель Мечей (The Keeper of Swords).
Perumov's books published in overall number of more than 4 millions of copies and translated to many languages, Northern and Eastern European mostly. One of his books, Godsdoom has also been translated to English. At Eurocon 2004 he was awarded as the best fiction writer of Europe.
Perumov now lives in the United States of America, where he works at a research center as a microbiologist. He claims writing is his 'hobby', while science is his work.

хочется еще поругать Фесса, хоть это уже сделали и Вейде, и Сфайрат. Фесс постоянно принимает странные решения на нелепых основаниях. Регулярно почему-то хочет драться на мечах, не на магии, даже когда никто не запрещает магию. Это периодически ведет к тому, что к нему возвращаются воспоминания о мечах, что раньше было очень важно не допустить. И раньше он шел на какие-то жертвы ради этого. Но вот опять, Фесс в очередной раз решает, что Он Должен Победить Трех Бойцов Инквизиции Обязательно На Мечах, правда, через пару страниц, убивает их магией. Да и первого он убил магией. Обязательно надо штурмовать Эгест бесхитростно с открытым забралом. При том, что магию его инквизиторы умеют нейтрализовать, а на мечах они с Рысей одолеть инквизиторов не могли. Исход схватки максимально предсказуем. Фесс ограничивает себя, проигрывает, нарушает запреты, и исход намного хуже, чем если бы не было никаких ограничений. Что мешало натравить зомбаков на четверку элитных инквизиторских бойцов, например?
Ну и я так до конца и не понял, что мешало ему послушаться Вейде и отречься от некромантии. Почему это описывается как предательство? Кого бы он предал? Он год всего посвятил некромантии. Причем он был не совсем собой в это время. Понятно, что тогда и не было бы истории. Но почему нельзя придумать нормальную мотивацию. И почему герой, вроде бы неглупый парень, постоянно ведет себя по-идиотски. Единственный раз, когда он повел себя разумно, это когда Фесс поднял зомбаков, чтобы телегу тащить. Вейде тоже странная. Она же видит, что в борьбе с инквизицией Фесс все больше становится этим самым Разрушителем. Почему же тогда нельзя его укрыть в своем лесу? Разве это не важнее дружбы с инквизицией?
Правило одного дара опять куда-то пропало. Кто-то из четверки инквихиторских бойцов умеет колдовать, да еще и наравне с Фессом, который тут у нас сильнейший темный маг.
Я, конечно, ничего не понимаю в фехтовании, но как так получается, что Фесс с Рысью сначала каждый сражался с двумя противниками, а в Эгесте не могут победить в схватке один на один? Тем более у Фесс был левел ап, он же там вспомнил себя прошлого.
Про приключения императора. Он там в конце что-то понял. Я ничего не понял. Что от него хотели? Может в следующих книгах будет ясно.

I liked how subtle Perumov described the romans between the couarting couple and their love, that the goal of the story is unknown, the mystery and the complex fantasy world. And finally we find out why the series is called "Svärdens väktare" ("The guardian of the swords")
