When explorer Wellen Bedlam finally reaches the mysterious Dragonrealm, he stumbles into a full-blown war and is recruited because of his elven blood to assist in breaching a seemingly inaccessible magic tower. Original.

This one, things kick into high gear. It starts slowly. As AGAIN new characters and origins are unveiled.
Then quickly moves into a good pace. Several plot lines, and groups of species or characters. Blend from different points of view. Into a story, you want to keep reading.
U tohoto dílu mi připadalo, že autor víc protěžuje hlavního hrdinu a vykresluje jej jako nejlepšího. Chtělo by to více neutrální přístup. Kniha je dobře čtivá a opět se jedná o jednoduchou odreagovačku, která bohužel má příběh slabší než druhý díl.
This book is a bridge halfway book between children of the drake and firedrake chronologically. Origins explained are finishing off Shade's initial story (but not the exact cause of the cursing) and what the library of Penecales is. There is a slight payoff for a character mentioned in the shrouded realm but who finally makes an apperance. It also explains why Penacles was in the Purple dragon's realm and why later purples became so knowledgeable.
It would have recieved a 4 star, but the third act conflicts with the purple dragon in the library had too many rabbits pulled out of the hat. Why the chess pieces? Why the imprisoned souls powering the library? If we were given a few paragrpahs of development before the halfway point of the book before the climax happens it would have paid off better. Instead it just seemed random and arbitrary.
