Rate this book
Winner of the 2002 Independent Publisher Award for Best Romance! Jared Beaudry's enraged spirit has been roaming the Outer Banks of North Carolina for over 130 years, hungering for the one thing he cannot revenge against the mad Confederate officer who took his limbs, his life, and worst of all, his honor. During a re-enactment of the Civil War battle in which he died, Jared takes a desperate leap of faith -- setting in motion a deadly chain of events nothing can stop. Taylor Brannon can only stand by, helpless, as her entire reenacting unit is taken over by spirits of long-dead Civil War soldiers. Terrified, she has two choices. She can run, or she can stand her ground and try to ensure the safety of her friends, and somehow help Jared's restless spirit find peace. Taylor finds herself fighting for the life -- and love -- of a ghost. The cost could be her soul.

If your looking for a smutty erotic book you wont find it with this book. What you will find is a great story about a ghost finding happiness after many years and one woman that also finds happiness after what pain her gift gives her and the lost of her brother. If you like a little history mixed with your romance you will like this book. I love history, so this one worked out for me. I would suggest this book to anyone who likes paranormal romance with not so much sex. This story has romance, bloody battle scenes, people getting possessed by ghost, a mystery, and a few more spirits left for more books.

Taylor still is miserable about her brother passing away, so she goes to a Civil war re-enactment and there she finds the whole re-enactment taking over by ghost it takes her a bit to figure it out, but when she does she also finds one solder Jared touches her in a way that she can’t get a way from no matter what she has to go through she will do it for him. Jared has a horrible time in the Civil war it has been told he was a coward and was shot in the back but that’s not what happens, so he sees a chance for revenge to possess a body and take out the one who put him to his death so many years ago.

This book was very different for me to read, it took me a little bit to figure out who was who, once I did I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to see what was going to happen next. Again I have to remind those that read erotic’s this is not like most, it has one sex scene its good, but that’s it.

This story caught my attention in the Radish app. The attractive cover made me think that it was the sort of historical romance that I usually read. The fact that it was a time-travel romance made me hesitate because I prefer happy endings. In general, I feel that such stories lead to bittersweet endings at best.

This was an emotional read. The tortured spirit of a civil war soldier gets another chance to right the wrongs surrounding his death. He is caught up in a 21st century reenactment, where he meets a modern woman who is grieving over the recent loss of her brother. The two lonely souls find comfort in one another. I don't think that I'm being too spoilerish when I say that this story has a satisfying happy ending.
There were a few loose ends but there is a second book in the series which should address them. I'm looking forward to reading it--hopefully the next book will appear on Radish as well!

I always can get myself lost in a good historical novel. This one is current time but with a sort of time bubble in the Civil War coming to modern times.

The hero, Jared, is a gentleman. His mama would be proud of the restraint that he shows in his wooing of the heroine Taylor. I would think that the libido would be raging after over 100 years of no human contact. He wants to be sure of both himself and of Taylor before any additional physical intimacy takes place beyond what they already have experienced just through touch.

I thought the best characters were the Civil War soldiers who inhabit Taylor's friends. Often you're left wondering if it's her friends fighting back against the horrible orders they have received, or if it's the actual soldier who thinks his CO has gone too far.

Is this novel perfect? No, but it's certainly fun, and it's an interesting plot.
