Abandoned at a young age, Sasha Harmon has grown accustomed to living her life in the background. Her lifelong search for love and acceptance reach a tipping point when she encounters the man of her dreams. But, like any wallflower, he seemed to look right over her.
Dmitri Durand Vikhrov is a man used to being surrounded by the most beautiful things, including women. Will he finally see Sasha, a woman who is usually overshadowed by the beauty of her friends? Is he capable of treasuring a woman broken by her past even as he fights the ghosts of his own that continue to haunt him?
DNF stopped at 33% I'm hoping for the authors sake this gets better, but I just can't. The heroine had ZERO self esteem. The dude you are in a relationship with has said although he is drawn to you you are not his type, but he wants to "f" you. SUCKING MY DAMN TEETH - I wish a man would step to me with that bs. I can't take weak chicks and I get the abandonment issues but see a fucking therapist and grow a backbone. You got so called friends hanging up on you for rides and calling you a fat b - nah this is not my cuppa. Return
Well... I didn't hate it and I didn't love it. It was simply "okay"
I honestly don't know how to take Dmitri, at one point I am like this dude is a huge ass and the next I am like okay well maybe not...and the cycle continued. His whole family minus Dom was huge asses and made my stomach hurt. His comments at times made my skin crawl... I can understand feeling intrigued by someone's differences in the beginning but when he in so many words said she was nothing special.. I wish he was real so he could get the hell smack out of him.
Sasha.. I understand her struggle, I get it but I swear her woe is me got on my nerves at time. I wanted to be like DAMN DOORMAT... she grew little balls at the end but by then you are like um okay.
I didn't think the climatic moment warranted that sort of reaction honestly. I was like um it would take her 3 min to explain and then we can all see that this was sorta water under the bridge. However I knew there was to be a "fall out" moment because there was a book 2... by the way why was this one broken into 2 books? it was only 153 pages (insert shoulder shrug).
I am going to start the second book but if it's anything like this one I probably won't be finishing it.
This book was first published on ValentChamber for free and I was always excited to see an update from this author, simply because it was a mindless read. She made it easy for me to be emotionally invested in the characters, especially the protagonist Sasha, and judging by the amount of reads she has gotten, I'm clearly not speaking for just myself.
This book is ideal to be read at the end of a long day at work and you just want to get home and chill, and leave the world behind until the next day. Despite having read the book in full for free, I bought it because she deserved a paid credit for her art.
This is my first book by this author and I read it on Kindle Unlimited.
I understand that this book was originally on the Chamber and readers got to read the whole story. Whilst I thought this was a great read, I was very disappointed that yet again an author has split a great story into parts. So now we have to wait until 2016 before we can read the end of the story.
I loved Sasha and how she came into her own. Dmitri proved himself to be a right ass. Let us hope he can redeem himself in book 2.
I promised myself over this labor day weekend that the only books that I was going to read were books that I loved from various genres. I happened across this little hidden jewel and once I started I literally COULD NOT put it down!!! R.J. Fletcher did an amazing job with this story. The story is centered around the title's name sake, Sasha. Sasha is this young college student who is in dire need of love. She was literally thrown away by her mother and left on the steps of an abandoned church at the age of 8 and from that point on she was shuffled from foster family to foster family. Once she aged out of the system she resigned that she would be the most focused and dedicated student that she could possibly be all while hanging onto the friendships that she cultivated with Jaylenn, Teagan, and Faye. The only problem with that decision is that of the 3 ladies that she is friends with TEagan is the only one who truly has her best interests at heart. While out doing a ladies night with the girls they all notice a handsome man sitting alone. With the exception of Sasha they begin to primp and put themselves together arguing over who should approach him. While Faye and Jaylenn are distracted Teagan makes her way over and introduces herself to Dmitri. After a few dates it is very clear that there will be nothing between the two and they part ways. The intriguing thing however is that Dmitri finds himself attracted to the less glamorous friend, Sasha and is confused because she is not his normal cup of tea so to speak. The story goes on and we meet a myriad of characters and several events unfold that turn our little naive, trusting, love-starved Sasha into a broken mess. I literally felt the joy the emanated from Sasha, her moments of insecurity, the sadness that had a way of creeping in when he unintentionally would dismiss or ignore something that was ultimately important to her. The level of emotions that were invoked in this novel are only a true testament of what R.J. Fletcher is able to achieve while writing this dynamic tale. I'm so glad that the series is complete because this is one that I will surely be reading over the weekend!! Kudos R.J. Fletcher loved the writing style and characters and can't wait to read more!!!
I cannot honestly remember the last time a book had me crying so much that I could barely see the words on my tablet. My heart went out to Sasha. She is a likable and endearing heroine that you just feel you have to root for. True her backstory was awful but she kept moving forward even though her self-esteem would take quite a few hits. Dmitri took a bit longer for me. He came off like the typical jerk looking for that one thing at first but thanks to the refreshing Sasha he begins to come around. There were some ups and a few more downs in the relationship, mostly from Dmitri's family. Pasha proved to me that went hard for those she loved but in the end life just kept throwing those hurtful punches and kicks to her still fragile heart. I don't want to give anything more away or have the waterworks begin again so I'll just say that this was a great book from a new author to me personally. I can't wait to see what happens in the next installment. From the little snippet at the end though I only hope Sasha puts him through the ringer first!!
I made the mistake of starting this series before all the books were out and now i'm upset because I really want to know how their story ends. They both do things that annoy me, but darn it, their ride is sure a fun one. Plus I want to learn more about Dominic , Taegan, Dina and Slade and the rest of those 'interesting' characters. :)
I got about 70% of the way through and just could not make my self go any further. I didn't like the male main character he's just a jerk, the transition between scenes is virtually nonexistent and the story is just boring. Also the female main is so passive and just a doormat and continues to be one even after acknowledging that's what she is. The second book by this author is way better and if you get a chance to read the next book in the series you will notice similarities in story. There were also some typos and a few issues like is he the younger or older brother? At one point the ages of the characters got switched.
Sasha and Dmitri meet when he very briefly dates her friend Teagan….incidentally Teagan proves to be an amazing friend. Dmitri was drawn to Sasha from the start even though she was not his usual type. Sasha is everything that Dmitri is not….innocent, sweet, open, loving and kind. Of course, he breaks her heart with his family drama and his arrogance. Will he regret his actions and try to win her back? Stay tuned for part 2!
This is a re-read for me, and I enjoyed it as much as the first time but for different reasons. I have a love-hate thing with Sasha. Definitely a little self righteous at the end, and the mention of her previous foster families did not endear her to me. Hoping at the re-read of book II they both mature and it’s not only Dimitri that does the “groveling”
My goodness, this story had me so enthralled. Dimitri and Sasha were totally opposite of each other and so unexpected for each other. However, they worked until things didn't. My heart totally broke for Sasha in the end, which caused my eyes to leak. I'm glad that she stood up for herself in the end. Now, on to the rest of their story.
It took me a little while to connect with Sasha and Dmitry, the side characters were a little distracting until I got to know them all. Then my emotions were pulled up and down by both their pasts. I'm expecting a happy ending in book two this one left me with waterworks. I feel rejected on Sasha's behalf.
This is a multilayered touching story that's keeps your interest until the last page. I like how the storyline is woven and intermingle Sasha's past, her connection to Dimitri and friends creating a tangled plot that has you wanting more. I look forward to reading the second book.
And nice relationship. I just feel like the author jumped perspectives to much in this book. It was fine if it was the main characters but i didnt care about the pov of a side character.
What can I say? I loved this book! Dmitry was a first class jerk from beginning to end, and he did not deserve Sasha. I do believe however, that he does have some redeeming qualities and I hope it displays itself in part two! Great book, Ms. Fletcher!
I thought Sasha was as the title says a wallflower. I found her needy, desperate and a poor judge of character or as the folks in the story said gullible.
I hated the main character Dimitri quite a bit in this first book...he was one of those guys that says exactly what he means not what women want to hear yet women still wanted him and he was an absolute jerk and you did not understand why they wanted him yet you kinda got his appeal at the same time and you knew that he and Sasha were suited. Near the end he started growing and I liked the book but felt the ending to this was rough and chopped up to make the second book when it should have been one longer book. Sasha needed to get her pride but after all she had been through with him some of the last fight was on her to and I was hard pressed to belief this is what ended them when I would have left him a few weeks or a month back. Nonetheless the book drew you in and the story was a unique and interesting one.
Well I have officially been wowed. This was such an intense story, with a lot of emotion. For some the subjects that shown are going to be a little tough, but I can promise you are going to love every minute. This is such a raw kind of romance that you hang on every written word. The two main characters are so likable because the writer does an excellent job in letting you see exactly who they are. There interaction is so intense and sexy that you feel every moment. This is drama done well along with the relationships of the other characters.I look so forward to the second installment to this story, because I can't wait to see how donkey(Demitri)gets his foot out of his mouth.
A very emotional story, had me tearing up so many times...
A very emotional story, had me tearing up so many times, I just really felt all Sasha's pain. The insults that she endured had me reeling and wanting to snatch up somebody.
I'm going to start the next instalment of this story now, and I'm hoping Sasha gets her own back on Dmitry even though I liked them together it always seemed that she was never truly his.
Sasha story remind me of a door mat. She let peoples walk over her and call her ugly name. That boyfriend treat her like she was dirt on his shoes until he wanted sex. Although her mother abandoned her at eight year old she should had more confidence in her as grown older
I enjoyed this book the story of Sasha and Dmitri's story. You can really relate to the characters. The plot was not ridiculously stereotypical which was a welcome change from some of the BWWM novels that I have read in the past. Wallflower was the first book that I read by R.J. Fletcher and am looking toward to reading more.
I hate when I don't realize a book has a cliffhanger...well I thought I liked Dimitri but at this point I can't stand his ass. And Sasha grated my nerves until the last 3 minutes of the book. I'll have to read the conclusion cause I hate leaving things unfinished.
If not for the typo's I would have given this book 5 stars. That and Sasha's weakness. It almost turned me off how needy she was. I understand her situation , but most black women don't wallow in self pity that way. Hope book 2 gives her a backbone
Ok I understand thAt Sasha had issues deep issues but wow. I have never read a book with a more pitiful ..I just can't.. I don't want to say anything to terrible...I am going to wait until this story continues and pray that this chic gets a damn backbone...OMG
