Deke has a terrible itch to scratch. He's a werewolf looking for a safe place to get his addiction on; Deke loves to feed vampires. When he finds himself at Bloodrose, an exclusive club that caters to supernatural creatures, Deke thinks he might be at the right place, somewhere he can find a kindred spirit.
Kasey is the vampire who ends up sponsoring Deke at Bloodrose, knowing that he has to have Deke for his own. The heat between them is immediate, but it's sharing the small details of their lives that makes Kasey and Deke think they might have something special together. Can they find a way to scratch Deke's itch?

This is actually the prequel of a short story I read some months ago, The Werewolf Code. I remember that my impression on that story was very good, but it was too short, and I also hoped that the author was willing to write more, above all on how the couple gets together, since it was hinted a very interesting story. Apparently I was not the only one to think that, since here is the story on how werewolf Deke and vampire Kasey meet.
Deke is a vampire bite addicted. Like other people have a sex dependency, Deke has an addiction on the thrill of a vampire bite, never sex is better than when it starts with him in the role of a willing donor. Usually werewolfes are strong Alpha males who reluctantly give up the power; instead Deke loves to take the submissive role in bed; but only in bed, since even if he likes to bottom, he is not a bottom in life.
Kasey is an old and hard to please vampire. He can't imagine to commit to only a man, but when he tastes for the first time Deke, his possessive side takes the lead and he finds himself unable to stay far from Deke for long.
Kasey and Deke are very different and not only as "breed". Kasey is a prim and proper type and instead Deke is a slob. Kasey is a bit aloof, not easy to express his feelings and instead Deke is a pack animals, he is very touchy feelings and he has no problem to voice his needs.
The love between Deke and Kasey is easy and almost funny; there is a lot of sex, but it is always light and joyful. Again the story is not very long, less than 60 pages, but this time I have enough development on the two characters to know them better and to also understand better why they are together and what is the basis of their love relationship.
Love the Bloodrose series! Several novels and shorts. Sexy characters and unique stories make it fun, entertaining, sexy and HOT!
This series leads into the Cereus series, a series of 4 novels made up of shorts by Julia Talbot, Sean Michael and BA Tortuga - all 3 are writing about another resort owned by Jonny, the owner of Bloodrose.
Too much fun! I love reading these books and now they are all going right back on my to-be-read-again shelf!!
A delightfully hot and funny story about a werewolf needing his “itch scratched” by feeding a vampire, this volume may be number two in the ‘Bloodrose’ series, but in terms of the events it is the beginning of Deke and Kasey’s adventures – much like a prequel. I read it years ago, when it first came out, but since a couple of new Bloodrose stories were recently published, I decided to reread them all before getting to the new books. And what a treat it was to go back to the beginning!
Deke is a rough, tough werewolf who works as a courier. His favorite activity is getting bitten by a vampire, in fact he calls it his “itch”, but it’s hard work to find a new “biter” all the time, not to mention occasionally dangerous. Not that this would necessarily deter Deke from indulging, but there is a better way of doing it, and he decides to give it a go. Club Bloodrose specializes in finding willing donors for its vampire members, and Deke is ready to sign on. Once he is paired up with Kasey, there is no looking back.
Kasey is a private investigator and an older vampire who is not normally into acting on impulse. He’s a member of Club Bloodrose because “…that was what one did. In this day and age, procuring your own meal as a vampire was déclassé, and not a little dangerous.” This made me laugh, and not for the last time throughout the story. When Kasey discovers that Deke is up for auction, something tells Kasey he needs to participate for once. What he finds is a surprisingly addictive werewolf, but that isn’t all. Not that he admits it at first, but Deke has gotten to him in a way nothing should - and nothing has for a good hundred years. Just goes to show there is more to life than even an old vampire is ready for.
Neither of these men are looking for a relationship, but they aren’t fighting it when it happens either. It fits well with the idea that both werewolf and vampire are driven by instinct more than humans, and with a life as long as theirs, there is little point in pretense. If you like hot werewolves and hotter vampires getting it on, if two men who meet accidentally but quickly figure out they are made for each other sound interesting, and if you’re looking for a fun read that is as hot as it is entertaining, then you will probably like this novella.

This is a sexy book and a fun start to an entertaining and easy series full of hot and interesting MC's. Most of the stories are fairly short but intriguing. There are 8 in the series now - I'm hoping for more!
There is a book called "Blood Rose: A collection of shorts" that belongs in this series but is not listed on Goodreads unless you look it up by separating the word Blood Rose. It has 3 of the short stories in this series: #3-Fireworks; #5-Harder than It Looks; #6-Learning to Wag and a 4th short not listed anywhere called "String Art A Cady and Jonah Snippet" which should be read right after #6.
3.5 for sure. Enjoyed this interesting twist on a Werewolf/Vamp pairing. Deke and Kasey are both looking for something. Deke knows exactly what he's looking for. Luckily for Deke, Jonny, the owner of Bloodrose know that Kasey is a perfect match for him. They are really hot together and the relationship moves in a direction that neither of them expects. They are both a little apprehensive, but they cannot get enough of each other. They both try to play it cool but it's pretty obvious that they really are perfect for each other in every way - even their fighting :) I'm on book #2.
Short and, well, more erotic than sweet. This is one of those where the plot is a loose excuse for the eroticism. And the eroticism didn't blow me away as much as I hoped it would. Werewolf that gets off getting fed on screamed Jean-Claude and Jason's relationship from Anita Blake. Well, nothing that deep, characters not nearly that intriguing, and plot strangely absent. Quick, yet ultimately forgettable.
Deke's itch was scratched with Kasey's help. Those two were fine together, but I missed the atmosphere of true romance. Sure we can feel the attraction between MC's, but I don't know, something is still missing here. This storyline is simply to past paced for my taste.
Great book. Very sexy and Dark and Romantic. Everything you want from a story abt a vampire that falls in love with a werewolf that he bought at auction. .. lol
