In her book, Toolkit for Wellness, Deidre Edwards, experienced teacher and nurse, takes an important subject, our health and makes it easy to understand with the whys and hows of eating properly. She starts with teaching the reader how to get into the proper mindset needed in order to make the necessary changes. She shows us that inflammation is the key cause of many or our health issues.

She makes a difficult, and to most, boring subject, anatomy and physiology, easy to read and understand. If only the textbook I had to use in A&P when I went to nursing school were this easy and quick to read and understand. She makes the subject interesting rather than dry and impersonal. She covers the digestive system, hormones, nutrients and enzymes involved in how our body utilizes or is impaired by the foods we eat and don't eat.

She further gives us all the information needed to make the changes we need to make and methods on how to achieve this goal. At the end of each section she gives thoughts to take away and take action on. Deidre Edwards gives us the tools we need to take control of our health through proper mental attitude and what foods to eat and what foods to avoid as well as much needed exercise. She provides us with the research and resources we need to dig deeper into taking control of our health and wellness.

The book includes a general diet plan for each meal. We are given several recipes to get on the right track for the nutrition we need. Deidre debunks the popular, incorrect and outdated food pyramid and Standard American Diet, SAD. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to take action and fix our common health issues.

This toolkit is overflowing with tips, ideas and well thought out plans and guidance to get you back to 'feeling great' in no time. I really like how the book begins with the quote 'What would you do if you weren't afraid?" by Spencer Johnson from Who Moved My Cheese. This quote gets your mind instantly in the right gear for what is to follow. Another great premise of the book is that we have 'right here, right now' whatever it is we need to make positive changes in our life. Do you see what I mean? Instantly my mind feels lighter and ready to take in whatever is on offer. And boy, what's offered by the author is a first class, five-star buffet meal. As in 'everything' is there, all you need to do is reach out and enjoy it.

This book is stacked with wonderful tools to get your health back on track, and not only that but Deidre's directions and guidance is giving in such a way that I can only thoroughly enjoy the journey whilst I am at it. This book is for anyone who likes to improve on their health. Get it, you won't regret it!

This book is a comprehensive guide to wellness. The conversational tone makes it easy to understand and follow. The author’s background as a nurse provides valuable medical backing for her recommendations.

The author rightly places mindfulness and mindset at the front. Wellness is a choice that must be made every moment, with mindfulness and the right mindset. The author’s goal is developing wellness habits.

A large part of the book is devoted to nutrition. She gives guidance on why and how to eat, and what to avoid. But her nutrition tips do not mean deprivation. She provides numerous delicious sounding recipes for foods that are healthy and nutritionally dense.

The exercise section of the book is geared toward those who are older and in need of adding regular physical activity. Her recommendations provide a sound base for a more active lifestyle.

Deidre Edwards clearly has a great grasp on wellness, and has a lot of life experiences to back up her knowledge. What I loved about this book was that it had no gimmicks, no pills, no portion control cups, no crazy exercise DVDs, nothing you had to go out and drastically change. She shows you in this book how to make life changes, small steps, to work your way up to a much more healthful lifestyle with the tools that you already have around you. Following up each idea with quick takeaway snippets to use for reference, she builds a super easy model for anyone to be able to follow. Looking for a great guide to help yourself into a better state of wellness? This is a must read!

Many of us take our health for granted – not so for Deidre Edwards. She has compiled an excellent book that explains how everyone can do simple, small natural changes that will result in huge health benefits.

While creating a habit of drinking more water daily or destressing through mindful breathing are commonly known techniques, Deidre reveals the less known holistic facts about inflammation and the digestive system as being the key to staying healthy. She covers everything, including exercise and recipes that will help you get started.

This book is a must have for your home library.

Well this is not my usual sort of book. But as I get older Wellness is something that has become more important to me. Unfortunately advice on Wellness does keep on changing and you simply don’t know who to trust on advice. Well this book takes a holistic approach to Wellness and covers all angles in an interesting way. I am not sure I learnt much knew even though the author does not spare us any potentially embarrassing details. But the information was put together well and it finally forced me to think about my approach to Wellness, which in the past had been piecemeal. This Toolkit has certainly inspired me to bring Wellness firmly back on my life’s Menu.

An Amazing Insight into Power of Self-healing, the Natural Way!

The Power of Choice has been explained by the Author in such simplistic terms, it's almost unimaginable we never realized.
I would recommend this book to every single health-conscious individual that has tried various other methods, wasted tonnes of money and failed. Try using the techniques brought forward by Deidre and you'll be on your way to a Healthy Body and Sound Mind!

An accessible yet comprehensive book that provides great information about key factors in wellness. Not only the usual things we are told - drink more water, eat more vegetables - but the reasons behind these mantras. I liked delving into the science behind digestion, but that much detail may not be for everyone. I was also suprised by the exercise chapter at the end of the book, after the recipes - I think it should have been featured earlier. Overall, a great resource for anyone interested in being more healthy, especially those with an issue with gluten. I would also love to know how many planks the author can do now.
