For two hundred years, Maksim has kept his true nature as a dragon shifter secret from the humans he lives among. Secrecy means that he can’t allow himself to get too close to any of the men who flow in and out of his life, but that’s never been a problem. Maks doesn’t like complications. He prefers things to stay easy and fun. Lately, though, he’s been restless.

His oldest friend is now mated, and a father, and even though Maks has never wanted a family of his own, seeing his friend Dane’s happiness has started to make him annoyingly dissatisfied with the life he’s been content with for so long. Maks is drawn to spend more and more time in Dane’s territory, and eventually he realizes why when he finds Devin, his fated mate there.

Fated mates are two halves of the same soul, destined for each other—but fate isn’t going to make it easy on Maks, because the one man Maks needs is also the one he can’t have. Devin is married. Devin has a child, and a pregnant wife.

Regardless of what fate has in mind for him, Devin is not available.

Scorch is the the second book in the Dragon’s Destiny: Fated Mates series. It is a standalone novel with a HEA ending, a satisfying epilogue, and NO CLIFFHANGERS!

Series Spoilers: Although it’s not necessary to read this series in order, Scorch contains “spoilers” for Heat, the first book in the series.

Content Warning: This book is a steamy gay romance of approximately 55,000 words that contains explicit, unprotected love scenes and male pregnancy, or Mpreg. Adults only shifter romance!

More dragon shifter fun!

"I'm a dragon," I blurted out, eager to get it said already and get back to what we'd been doing.

"A what?"

"A dragon."

"I don't know what that means."

"Wings. Scales. Breathing fire. I'm really big."

"A ... dragon?"

I nodded.

"Is this a sex metaphor?"

I liked Scorch more than I liked Burn, the first book in the Dragon's Destiny: Fated Mates series, probably because Maksim was so respectful of Devin's wishes, even when they made not a lick of sense. I mean, Devin's marriage was in name only. He and Sarah were friends, not lovers.

This author really doesn't worry about reality as we know it, and I'm not talking about the dragons. It's simple things, like how do you explain to your parents that you're no longer aging? I kind of hated that Devin the geeky genius quit his job to follow his mate to Nova Scotia and raise babies.

Then again, if my mate were a sexy dragon who breathed fire that made me recover from pregnancy in an hour and look like I'm 22 forever, and flew to the mainland to buy me pistachio ice cream, I might move to Nova Scotia too. Forget vitamin C; dragon fire is where it's at.

This book is hella sexy and a little bit exciting; dragon fighting action and mpreg included.

I'm hooked.

Closer to 3.5 stars, rounded down.

Dev and Maks are eye candy. The story is quite predictable but interesting. Scorch is overloaded with sugar. I thought this book would be good before I started reading, and it turned out to be a stunning one. I loved everything about dragons and their mates and babies. OMG ! Michael and Zach. Love them.

I liked the writing style, it's easy to get into and describe the feels as good as other romace novels.

Where the first book had me on edge reading about this new world of dragon shifters and their fated mates and the mpreg side of it, this second book felt like a repetition. In the first book, we got angst and adventure in terms of how Dane would get to keep Wes alive and with him. But here, everything was resolved already. There was nothing for Maks to fear about.

The storyline was pretty weak. Devin was married, but that situation got sorted out easily and quickly enough. The involvement of Ivan was a good idea, but the remaining book after putting aside the marriage dissolving thing and this threat from Ivan thing was just covered with sex scenes. After reading the first three scenes, I skimmed the following ones, just reading the meat of the story to get to the end of it.

Also, not much was shown regarding their relationship development. It was way faster than in Heat.

So I actually dnf this one over a year ago and decided to give it another chance. I’m glad I did. I think it could have been shorter and I know why I had dnf before. It’s kind of boring 😳. But I enjoyed the last 25% where there’s some conflict and setup for Ben in the next book. So on to the next one...

The story of Maksim and Devin...

I had the book for sometime but I'm not able to read this one. Basically it has a little twist with what a common mm romance. Given that male could be impregnated by dragons is a unique one for me that's why I continue to read this book 2. But maybe it didn't make an impact like what it gave in book 1.

Anyway it still a nice read, a nice continuation and you have a chance to meet Ivan... Love it when he speak Russian 😉

Maksim is just over two hundred years old and yearns to find his fated mate. He knows it's a long shot though. It took his friend Dane over four hundred years before he met his fated mated Wesley, and it took his friend Ben's father, Anik, over two thousand years to find his fated mate, Mikkel. So being so young, relatively speaking, for a dragon he doesn't think he'll meet his mate for a while.

But when he sets eyes on Devin at a friend's party he knows instantly that this man is his mate. Instead of being able to celebrate though he's shocked to find the man is married. To a woman with a small daughter and who is also sixteen weeks pregnant.

Normally I'd put the next part under spoiler tags, but I think the whole "married" thing could possibly turn a lot of people away, and I really don't want that to happen - so here's the skinny. Devin's best friend Sarah's baby daddy went and got himself killed in Alaska on one of those fishing boats. Since they weren't married no benefits or insurance came to her, and being that she's pregnant and has a child, Devin steps up and "marries" her to give her his health insurance benefits. He is very clearly gay, they do not have any sort of romantic relationship, and NOTHING happens with Maks until that whole situation is resolved.

So don't pass this one up because of that, okay? You'll be missing out - because this is just as hot as Heat, just as emotional, and this time there's even a lot of character growth. (It was like Wolf Specter "heard" my thoughts about what was missing from Heat and ramped it up a notch.)

He accepted everything I had to give. My perfect fit. My fated mate. Mine.

There's hot sexy times, there are deep emotional connections, there's even ACTION and DANGER! But, above all, there's love. This series is definitely delightful and I'm so glad I found it! Do you know how hard it is to find a good shifter story? Well, Wolf Specter has a new fan. Now on to the next in the series - Ben's story!

In this world, dragons as a species use humans to mate with and once they are pregnant, and ready to deliver, the dragon uses his claws to rip the human baby from the womb, killing the human in the process. They use their dragon power to coerce a human couple into raising the child as their own. When the child shifts for the first time at adulthood, terrified and confused, the sire returns to take the child under his wing and mentor him about being a dragon, and manipulating, using, and killing humans for their own pleasure. However, not all dragons feel this way. and Dane and Wesley managed to mate, and Wesley gave birth without dying at Dane's claws - he just had to learn to trust his dragon. These stories can be read as standalones, but I would recommend reading them in order as there is backstory and developments that occur in each that I would have missed out on and been confused about.

"The worst part was that I couldn’t really say why I’d been so picky. The dragon inside me was usually pretty quiet, but every time I’d started checking someone out the night before, my otherself had intervened, finding fault with them. I didn’t understand it, and I didn’t like it. It was making me cranky."

Maksim (Maks) was lucky enough to have Dane be there when he changed for the first time, and to take him under his wing and teach him about being a dragon. The positive, good parts about being an immortal shifter. Maks has always been relaxed and had that same relationship with his otherself, until Elise, Dane and Wesley's daughter's first birthday party, when he finds Devin, his mate, who is married to a pregnant woman and has a young daughter as well. To say his otherself goes a little crazy trying to get to Devin is an understatement. This wasn't what he expected. Not even close.

Once I found out the reality behind Devin and Sarah's marriage, I breathed a sigh of relief knowing that everything could be worked out. Except, Devin is very honorable and believes in keeping his promises 100 percent, regardless that he feels more for Maks than he ever has for any other man. Luckily, for both of them, Sarah knows about the otherhalf of one’s soul, and even though she lost him, she isn't going to allow Devin to miss out. Of course, Maks still has to tell Devin about the whole dragon and mpreg thing.

I liked the surprise the authors threw in regarding Maks's brother, Ivan. I wasn't expecting it, so that made the whole story more enjoyable. Much like when I read Wes's story, I adore the way these fated mates give birth, as it seems very realistic to me. I still had my reservations regarding some discrepancies about flying in dragon form (guys, radar, I'm telling you), but I'm trying not to let it interfere with my enjoyment. I loved Devin and Maks was hot, as was their mating, plus the secondary characters I hope to see more of.

I can definitely recommend this book, and the series, if you enjoy dragons, mpreg, and delicious men.

This was an ok book. It was pretty similar to the first book in the series. There was some angst with Devin and his marriage but it didn't really make a whole lot of sense. I liked Maksim from the first book, so no surprise I would like him in this one as well.

Clearly, we are setting up future books throwing Ivan into the mix.

Overall, the book was pretty predictable. HOpefully, the next one changes course a little or has some variation to the storyline.

*Rant-y spoilers* -2.5 stars rounded up to three due to the steam

Okaaaaaay. I am not entirely sure what I think about this book. Having just finished the book, I honestly felt like I read two seperate books.

Book 1: Devin is married to Sarah. Sarah has a toddler and a baby on the way. Her husband Luke was killed in a boating accident. Devin feels a fierce protectiveness over Sarah and the babies. Maksim and Devin both go into heat. Sexy times are denied becuase of Devins "loyalty" to his marriage oath. Angst, Angst, Angst and then EX FUCKING MACHINA - holy fire balls Luke is still alive and in a coma and a bunch of other shit that never happens. Quickie divorce - Quickie wedding and wham bam thank you ma'am Devin is pregnant.

Book 2: Nova Scotia. Sexy pregnant times. Were introduced to Ivan who is a judgemental fuck. Ben and Dane join the party. Dane apparently can't hold out on sex for more than 2 weeks and throws up the deuces. Ben stays - you're fucking awesome Ben. Devin has the baby - surprise! He has twins that we didn't even think were possible at all even though there was SO much fucking foreshadowing. Ivan throws up a half hearted attempt at stealing the twins all the while still being a judgemental and ignorant fuck. Ivan goes home and all is well.

Okay - that all being said I have so many thoughts but don't want to drag this review out. I will just say this - I did not like Scorch as much as I liked Heat and that is only because I did not connect with the MC's. I got so hung up on Book 1 that I couldn't get past the whole "loyalty" to Sarah and the babies thing. I will say that the world building was better in this book and I got (a few) questions answered.

Now for the grand finale: Sexy time quotes

I wanted to fuck him with my tougue until I could hear him moan, and beg, and be so ready for my cock that when I finally gave it to him, I could drive all the way into his tight heat with one, hard thrust.

He thrust into my throat, using me the way I'd hoped he would, losing himself in the tight heat I offered.

If you're still with me, riddle me this. Elsie (Dean and Wes' baby) is the only (known) female dragon - is she gay too? How does she get impregnated/impregnate another human? Does she even reproduce? Would that mean her fated mate is a male dragon? This would not get out of my mind since book one!!

*Please note - there are not actually 2 books in Scorch*

Even more enjoyable than book one

3.5*

This one was even more enjoyable than book one as it had a slightly more complicated journey for the two fated mates than just meet, fall in love, get pregnant.

Max, Dane's friend from book one, falls for Devlin the second he sees him but there's all sorts of complications, including a pregnant wife and child.

Thankfully, they're not really his, but his best friend's girl and child who he promised to take care off if anything ever happened to him.

Now, while the solving of this little puzzle is a bit obvious, I still liked how they went about it and how both men were determined not to act while Dev was still married.

There's also a bit more external angsty as Max's brother comes to stir things up. There's the same great bunch of secondary characters who we find out more from, Ty being a particular favourite of mine, and a conclusion which works perfectly.

Wolf Specterék megvettek kilóra ezzel a sorozattal. Kíváncsian várom a kis "sárkánycsalád" megmaradt két tagjának a könyvét. Wes ikertesóját, a katona Ty-t egyszerűen imádom. Komolyan mondom, ha nem fog szerepelni a harmadik kötetben, azt nagyon fogom nehezményezni, mert ő adja a humorforrás nagy részét. Annyira, de annyira szeretem, ahogy odavan a sárkányokért az a fickó. :)

**Grammar**

Maksim is Dane's best friend, they pratically grew up together and share their sad past. When Maksim was only a teenager Dane had saved his foster parents and him from his sire, an older dragon that like Dane's father wanted his child to destroy the only family he had known and go with him. Maksin and Dane were able to run away from the old dragon but the other man didnt give up on his dream of having an heir and few years later, they had found out he was having another son. They tried to dave the baby and his human father, but the older dragon was too strong. Ivan, Maksim's brother, grew up with his sire and with his ideals, thinking that the humans are only something to use. Since that day Maksim and Dane had vowed to never get a mate, bcs they know that any human getting pregnant with their seed will then die at the baby's birth. No one can survive the pain. Now centuries later seeing his friend Dane happy with his mate and their baby girl, Maks understands that they were wrong, they were young and didnt know all about their nature. Maksim feels lonely he too wants to find his mate, but he also knows that he is younger than Ben who still didnt find his and so he understands that maybe he will need to wait centuries before he finds his.

Fate has other ideas.

He is with Dane, Wes and their baby when he sees his mate for the first time and he is happy till he finds out that the man is straight and married, and his wife is expecting their 2nd child. Maksim doesnt know what to do, he doesnt want to destroy the couple but at the same time he cant stop feeling the mate pull btw them.

Devin is young and a virgin. No one knows that he married his best friend just to make her able to use his health insurance since her boyfriend and the father of her children died for a work accident. He vowed to be loyal to her and also if they are only friends, he doesnt want to cheat on her with some man he just met also if the man is gorgeous and everything he ever wanted. Thanks to both their friends, Maksim finds out about the true and tries to help Devin's friend to understand what happend to her boyfriend. In the end Maksim is able to find the man,he is in a coma and Maks heals him. The 2 come back together and finally Devin is free from his fake marriage and his friend can marry the man she had always loved.

We know that this doesnt make sense, but is an excuse to make Devin and Maks end together.

At start i thought that the woman was using Devin, but in reality she wanted the other man to be happy and she also helps Devin understand that Maksim is good for him and he shouldnt give up on him just to help her. When i saw this i started to like her, and i was happy to see her again with his true love.

The scene when Devin tells her about his pregnancy and that his boyfriend is a dragon was funny, thanks also to Ty being there. I like that man and i hope he will end up with Ivan...I'm almost sure about it...

Devin and Maksim have to wait weeks before they are finally able to be together, bcs Maks respects Devin's marital vows and acts like a getleman and is actually able to hold himself. He isnt an horny animal like Dane.
When they finally have sex for the first time, Maks his gentle with Devin, he is his first and wants the man to like the experience.
When Devin gets pregnant we see Maks caring for him and never leaving him, another thing that is different from Dane. Devin is happy to have a child and he is really cute and sweet.

Sadly there is also some angst. Ivan finds them and tries to take the babies away from them, but thanks to Ben's help they are able to win the fight and the younger dragon leaves them alone, at least for now. The scene were the fire is all around Devin and the babies was terrible. Devin thinks that his sons(twins) are going to die and he tries to fight Ivan that grabs one of them, Zach. In the end they are all ok , but the author tells us that Zach has a sign on his shoulder and we dont understand what that means, since the fire didnt hurt them we dont know what the symbol is. The author also tells us that Michael is quiet and calm while Zach is iperactive. I'm curious why he wants us to know these things and why he also writes about this in the 3rd book....uhm.

Anyway , the book ends with Devin and Maksim being happy with their kids and Ben telling them that he will go to Europe to watch Ivan's movements and be sure he is not coming back for them.

This is the start of the 3rd book.

In my opinion, Ivan isnt a bad guy, the poor dragon grew up with a psycho and when he finds out that Maks loves his mate and that the human survived the childbirth, he is shocked and doesnt know what to do for some minutes. He thinks that these are all lies, he was brainwashed and all he knows is that he needs to do what his sire wants. I want to believe that he will understands in the end that this is wrong and maybe finding his mate will help him.

The epilogue with Maks asking Devin to marry him, also if they are already mated, was really romantic. I liked this couple more than the first one. Maksim is a better mate and husband and Devin is so innocent and sweet that u cant not love him.

Solid

I really liked the characters and that there is a little tension and action near the end. We get to see the dragons shifted and learn more of their history.

There’s a bit of a slow burn to start but things definitely heat up.

So now that Dane and Wes have mated and have a child, Maks, Dane's best friend, is longing for a mate and family of his own. So he's ecstatic when he encounters his fated mate at a party, but not so thrilled to learn that Devin, his mate, is married and has two kids. Burn. Turns out though, it's a marriage in name only, the kids aren't actually his and Devin is in fact gay. So all speed ahead then. Except not. Because Devin insists on remaining loyal to his marriage vows. Even though he will divorce her in a heartbeat if she finds someone, he will not do so for his own happiness. So angsty, unresolved sexual tension ensues, while Maks tries to figure out how to get Devin divorced. He does this with the most unlikely scenario and just screams "tres convenient." I think they call this a deus ex machina... So mating occurs, Devin gets pregnant with poorly foreshadowed twins and is threatened by Maks's younger brother Ivan, who wants to steal the babies and take them back to their father to be raised in their father's legacy.

I liked this one a little better than the first one. There are several inconsistencies here though that kept me questioning...like how was it that Maks was able to wait months to claim Devin when Dane couldn't even wait an day. In fact, Dane's presence in Wes's life made him so sick that he begged to be claimed the following morning. And the author made it sound like the dragon's fire is what allows the human male body to adapt to pregnancy, so how is it that Wes's body adapted before receiving the dragon fire? And where do these contractions come from? For some reason, the human males aren't my favorites. Devin, like Wes before him, felt annoying. Can't put my finger on it, but Devin felt exactly like Wes...personality nearly identical. And equally as boring. Although, one interesting point was that Devin was a virgin...though it didn't really come into play that much during the story, hardly even considered later when they finally had sex.

I still liked the dragons. It's probably my favorite part. In fact, I'm probably giving all the stars for creativity in world building - I just like the fantasy world of the dragons existing and how it all works. I also really like the plot with Ivan and Maks's father. This seems to be extremely interesting and is probably what's hooking me into the next story. I want to know what happens with Ivan. The romance aspect, isn't really working for me for some reason...maybe it's the insta-love or the lack of angst in the relationship (it feels too perfect). I'm hoping Ben's story, between two dragons, is a little better.

This story finally answered questions I had about the Mpreg aspect. It makes a lot more sense with the magical explanation. I had a bit of a hard time in the beginning because of the constant repeating of explanations. Why he is married to Sarah, why she's ok with him and Maks, why he can't be with Maks while he's still married. After the first couple of times, I was over the explanations and didn't want to hear anymore. Once past that, the story went along really well. Things started heating up and moving faster. I was so excited when he went to Alaska to fix Sarah and Devin's situation. That part couldn't have been any better. Then bringing Luke and Sarah into the clan, more or less, was perfect. When Ivan showed up on their island, things got really interesting. Ivan's outlook on dragons and humans or dragons and dragons for that matter are archaic. I love how our dragons have feelings for each other, their mates and humans in general. All of the babies are so much fun and will all grow up together with love and without the dragon prejudices. I do have a feeling we'll be hearing more about Ivan in the future. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Maks is a dragon shifter who learns his mate is a married man. Have no fear – there is no cheating in this book! Maks and his mate, Devin, do the right thing, but it does take a fair bit of time – loads of time for sexual tension to build.

Then, just when things are beginning to get interesting, Maks’ brother tries to steal Devin and their baby!

Luckily, Maks has actual friends, despite what his brother Ivan would have you believe, and together they fight for Devin and the new baby.

**

This is another fun mpreg where Devin gets to experience all the wonders of being pregnant and Maks gets to be the hot dragon mate.

It’s loads of fun, well written and we get to catch up with the guys from book one and there’s a big hint as to who’s going to find a mate next… will it be Ivan? Will it be Ty? Will it be Ivan and Ty?

I highly recommend this for fans of dragon shifters and mpreg romances.

Loved this one too. Very different approach here. I like that Maksim told Devin about the dragon/mating bond, and showed him his dragon BEFORE he had sex with him so he gave him the opportunity to make the decision. I skimmed some parts but loved mostly everything. Skimming was more due to wanting to get to the good stuff. I skipped some of the sex too. Soooo, Ivan - very interesting! Can we pair him with Ty PLEASE?? Ty needs his own dragon. And Ivan so needs to be loved. Ty's craziness is the perfect balance for him.

Off to read Ben's book.

Masim had no desire to meet his Soul mate his other half until he saw the beauty in what it can be like. The only problem is when he meets his fated math he turned out to be married to a woman!!!!

Only nothing seems like it is and with the help of the Dragon magic and his friends he ends up a very happy, in love with his soulmate for a very long time

I know this series is far from perfect but I loved it all the same.

I was concerned on how this one would handle a conflict to overcome. Turned out better than I thought. Between the whole I'm married and can't break my in name only vows and the addition of Maks brother and the results of Devin's pregnancy... entertainment ended up not being a concern.

I have finally looked at the blurbs on the next two books...and I'm looking forward to #4 where it has the straight twin meeting his destined dragon male mate...

Maks and Devin have a great instant lust and connection between them the instance that they meet. However due to circumstances, they must wait to be together. Luckily Maks is a hero and ends up solving the dilemma to be with Devin but then the brother he left behind comes and attempts to take his child away. There is fight that luckily Maks wins and then starts his life with his children and Devin.
