After decades of squandering and abusing the earth’s natural resources the future of mankind was bleak. Humanity searched the earth for any remaining energy, hoping to discover an answer before the lights went out. They resurrected the ancient grounds of Eden, hoping to find its power – an extraordinary ore offering an unlimited source of energy. Gabriel Roberts, the son of the ore's discoverer, awakens to a horrific storm that kills his mother and leaves him with a piece of the ore plunged into his chest. He survives and is found by rescue teams the next day; their helpful nature changes as they discover what's in his chest. Panicked Gabriel unleashes a massive explosion from the ore in his chest. His estranged brother, Adin, arrives after the blast and takes him to hide live with him in the metropolis of Denver. It isn't long before strangers come looking for Gabriel. Attacked in the night, Gabriel is saved by a young woman with supernatural abilities. She leaves him promptly with only a warning to stay hidden and not to trust anyone. Gabriel rushes back to reconnect with his brother, but trouble follows and rips the two apart once again. Gabriel makes a daring escape, hoping Adin will be spared as their attackers chase after him. His world begins to spin out of control as he discovered a hidden war, raging on behind the scenes. As Gabriel learns about the true nature of the ore in his chest, he forced to choose a side. A decision that will shape the course of humanity.
B.V. Bayly is an exciting up and coming new author on the science fiction scene. His writing is a mix of comic action and science fiction.
Bayly’s series Eden’s Ore hit the market as a huge surprise. The first book in the series, Eden’s Ore: Secrets, thrilled both readers and reviewers in the UK and across North America. The dystopian series is about the world going dark as it runs out of energy, a newly discovered ore with its ability to produce unlimited energy, and the dark secret the ore carries with it that tears the world apart.
Eden’s ore (Source: I received a digital copy of this book for free on a read-to-review basis. Thanks to author B.V. Bayly.)
"The glowing white crystal was embedded in the centre of his chest."
This was a YA story set in a world where strange ‘ore’s’ have strange properties.
I felt quite sorry for Gabriel at the start of this book, as a storm totally changed his life. I did think he made some rash decisions, but at the end of the day he was pretty young.
"Mom just died!" Gabriel yelled the words at him. "And wasting time sulking about it isn't going to help you in life."
The storyline in this was about Gabriel finding out about the Ore’s strange properties, and learning to live with his brother. The story was interesting, although I did find the pace a little slow.
"The shard... Dad's crystal! The thought of losing the white crystal was too much and he began to slide the bolts back to unlock the huge door."
There was a little touch of romance in here, but not a lot.
"He kissed her again, his body leaned into hers, his head feeling dizzy,"
The ending to this was okay, but because of the slow pace it seemed to take a long time to get there.
Mankind is in danger. The resources required for energy are dwindling and people aren't sure what to do. All that changes when something unbelievable appears...the ore. The ore are powerful crystals of seemingly endless energy and mankind hopes it can make the world back into Eden. One young man Gabriel learns more than he ever wished to know about the ore when a natural disaster causes a crystal to be embedded into his chest. Gabriel is forced into a world he didn't know existed as he runs from T.E.R.A. and unlocks the crystal's abilities.
So Eden's Ore Secrets follows the standard sci-fi/fantasy storylines. It has the farmer protagonist who loses everything but discovers a shocking power in Gabriel. It has the evil organization with the backing of the government who either has no clue they are evil or doesn't care in T.E.R.A. There are a few resistance groups battling against this evil scourge. There is at least one evil guy who pretends to be a friend until the moment he can get what he wants. It all just feel familiar.
Now while most of the story feels familiar it does have one unique and interesting feature, the ore. The ore can be used for far more than to replace the various power sources that have been depleted in the world. It can grant individuals powers. As the blurb mentioned the ore gives Gabriel unexpected powers and I must say they are quite intriguing. The parts of the story that centered around the ore giving people power were undoubtedly the most intriguing parts of the book.
The biggest flaw I had with the book is the lack of characterization. The characters were all pretty bland with little distinction between them when it came to personality. A few characters spoke in scientific terms, a few in military terms, and a few in religious terms, but short of that they all basically seemed the same. With better characterization I think this book would've been pretty good.
I recieved this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. First od all I have to say that this book was really a pleasant surprise. I loved the idea of a mysterious ore being a way to solve an energy crysis of the earth and loved the idea of people being able to manipulate it and even enhance themselves. The story is very fast paced and intriguing. I loved it so much that I felt sorry it ended so soon. There's so much that hasn't been explained (yet :) ). I want to know more about this future earth. What happened to it, war or was it a simple energ crysis that our society is heading to. Can't help but compare the ore to oil. Poweful stuff, we're totally dependant on it, not enough left and expendable. I loved how Gabriel developed during the book. However I'm missing Adin's development. I'd like to see more od his perspective. Sometimes he felt a bit naive, even brainwashed for a 30 year old. I'm also curious about the ore itself, and I loved the theory of its creation and purpose. Looking forward to seeing how the story will develop further. I hope with sequels we get to find out more about this world, the ore, tera, calvin etc. I would definitely recommend this book to those who are looking some fast paced scifi action
I use to be able to say that I read nonfiction exclusively, but something got me to buy this scifi novel online and i'm glad I did. I'm really not a reader at all. The only reading I would do was the assigned texts for College and maybe 1 book a year for my pleasure; if it was interesting enough.
But I really enjoyed this book. The action was good. There are shocking revelations and moments of powerful glory and touching scenes as the characters deal with tragic memories.
As you accompany a young man on a journey in a realistic future earth, he tries to discover whether his accidental new powers have any underlying purpose in them or not. Or even, does he? You'll meet his friends, and some new ones, while he tries to discover their hidden past and the dark secrets of his new enemies.
I found the character development and unfolding story line to be very in depth and well thought out. The writing was clear and overall this book is an easy and very entertaining read. I have already recommended this book to all my "reader" and "non-reader" friends.
Now with this book being the first in a 5 part series. I think it will definitely be something worth investing in. So if your looking for a fun, easy and exciting series to read, definitely get this book.
Oh boy, how I've struggled with this one ! I've never met a more annoying set of characters, I don't even know where to start. Maybe by the several things that bothered me throughout the whole story ?
I feel like the characters aren't fleshed out enough. In the end, we know so very little about them. Despite everything, not enough time was spent on them as characters. There's also the fact that Gabriel is so annoying during, at least, a good 80% of the book. The thing that bothered me the most though is how casual and jaded he is about the whole ore-thing in the beginning. He's not even a little bit curious, he's just content lounging in his brother's apartment, letting his brother do all the work, and asking about what his brother found just as he would ask for the weather report in Taiwan ! I mean, it's not like the whole thing is happening to him, it's not like, if he takes into account everything he knows about ore, he's probably going to die because of the giant crystal embedded in his chest ! There's also a lot of, in my opinion, useless back and forth between Gabriel and Adin. They keep arguing about the same things, repeating the same stuff. It doesn't move the plot along, and it makes you feel like you're stuck on repeat. I also feel like the different POVs weren't necessary, especially Dr Cymru and Nate.
On the whole, I think the idea was interesting, but the execution was really clumsy. It didn't feel finished, in my opinion. I expected a lot more, and I wasn't given anything I might have hoped for.
Rating: 3/5 Disclaimer: I received an ecopy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review ***Spoiler-free***
I went into this book not sure what to expect. The synopsis definitely sounded interesting, but I wasn't sure what to think about the overall concept of this book. The Ore seemed strange, and I was curious as to what it really was.
This story follows Gabriel, a boy who finds that a piece of white ore that his father gave to him before he died becomes embedded in his chest. This ore gives him unique abilities which you learn more about over the course of the book. We also learn more about the ore itself and how it works. It's quite an interesting thing that I found a bit confusing at first, but things begin to clear up as you continue reading the book.
A lot of things about this book just seemed okay to me. Nothing really stuck out as overly extraordinary. The characters were alright, but I found that there weren't really many qualities about them that made you love them or feel overly emotional towards them.
The book started out at a very slow pace, and it took a while for me to get into it. The story seemed boring for a while, and I found myself wondering when things were going to start picking up and getting exciting. Wondering what was happening with Gabriel and how the shard in his chest would affect him is the main thing that kept me reading.
A lot of things were left unanswered at the end of this book. I will be reading the second book soon, and I hope that the next book will fill in some of the gaps from this one.
This book. I was beyond pleasantly surprised with this book. It starts off with a bang and pretty much nonstop action from page one. I was completely hooked until the very last page. I loved this world that B.V. Bayly created. It is a very cool, realistic, near future that I could imagine myself living in. The protagonist is, for lack of a better word, awesome. He was so relate-able and I loved reading about his interactions and relationships with the people around him, especially his brother. The conversations were so realistic and he portrayed what I felt to be an actual sibling relationship. The not getting along, and then forgetting about it and being okay with each other the next minute etc.
There was plenty of action throughout the entire book, and although the whole book wasn't nonstop action, I felt that everything that happened, happened for a reason and there was no filler, which is such a breath of fresh air. The story was captivating, the characters were all so different, as well as unique and interesting. It left me wanting more and to know what happens next. I will absolutely be continuing this series and I truly cannot wait until the next book comes out.

January 2016 Review:
Actual Rating: 4.75
This was an huge improvement from the original. I decided to re-read this book because the author has re-published it. I thought this edition was much better than the original. I loved the characters and how much faster the story started and finished. In this edition, I saw the relationship between Adin and Gabriel. It was better than the original. Adin was not as annoying. For my original review, look below. Overall, an amazing read.
June 2015 Review:
Actual Rating: 4.5
The story grabs your attention right at the beginning and it was hard to put down. The story is slow paced throughout most of the story. However, as you read further, the plot slowly starts to build. I thought the characters were relatable and I love to see into the mind of the character, so I thought that was great. I wish there was more on Adin such as how he left his home, and what made him the way he is. I thought Adin was annoying through most of his scenes because he seems to be thinking of only what would benefit him, and not his family. Also, I thought that there were some parts of the plot that I wanted to rush through. The ending was great. I think it sets up the second book really well. It was an interesting and unexpected read. Can't wait to read the second book.
I am not someone who enjoys fantasy/scifi material – at all. So I was really surprised by how this book grabbed my attention right from the start and, more surprisingly, was able to keep it all throughout. This book is packed with exciting action and intriguing mystery, but there is also a great telling of relationships between characters. I loved when he described the futuristic technology, as he gives great detail so you can picture everything perfectly, but without getting too wordy or exhausting. This book isn’t a difficult read and will definitely leave you wanting more. I'm glad I decided to give this book a try when it was suggested to me and I definitely suggest it to others. This book is deep as well at greatly entertaining. Can’t wait to read more from Bayly.
Mind-blowing!! Amazing!! Superb!! Fantastic!! I can go on and on with words to define this book. Eden's Ore Secrets (Book-1), is a fantastic combination of suspense, thriller, horror, soft-humour, excitement, and every-word that comes to your mind. I had my eyes poked-out, heart stopped beating and nails almost gone from my fingers!!
Eden's Ore Secrets is the story of Gabriel and his father's discovery- 'the ores'. The magical element found at the core of our planet sustains powerful energy to which human can bind themselves and become super-human. Gabriel is one of them who accidently got bonded with the most rarest ore- the white ore. His father worked for an organisation named T.E.R.A, who discover these ores and perform experimentations for the benefit of the human-kind (there is of-course another side of the coin too). Gabriel had lost his father to this organisation and resented it from the bottom of his heart.
After getting to know more about the horrible organisation 'T.E.R.A' which had killed his father and taken away his brother, Gabriel decides to help himself with the ore stuck in his chest. Gabriel's quest to save mankind, to find his brother and to walk on the path his father chose, consumed me and I feel one just can't stop reading...
I find this book really fast-paced and each instance/each paragraph is very important. One just can't miss-out on any single detail. Each plot has a connection within itself and each situation gets very well encrypted in one's head. I could actually feel like an entire movie running in front of me while I was reading this book.
The concept of Eden's ore and the meaning behind the name, the uses and misuses of the ore, the human torture in the name of saving mankind, the groups of people involved to discover the secrets of the ores- the gangsters, the involvement of the church, scientists & their experiments, the government's involvement; negative and positive uses of the ores, secret labs... WOW!! I felt like I was either reading a Dan Brown novel or watching a James Bond movie. I feel B.V. Bayly is the upcoming Dan Brown in the field of sci-fi writings.
The Characters: Gabriel, Adin, Nate, Dr. Cymru... very strong characters with a strong purpose in the story. The activities of the characters were appropriate of their age and even among the serious plots, Gabriel had a humorous side to lighten the heaviness of the situation. Adin being a person who was brain-washed since his father died, was a perfect example of how people can be misguided no matter what age you are. And his blind trust on greedy Dr. Cymru made him face the consequences. Nate was a very heart-warming character, but I felt was a little superficial. Dr. Cymru was the perfect villain, the best character among all. I enjoyed reading the way he came to his end.
I love books with hidden meanings, logical explanations for every occurrence, secret revelations, appropriate descriptions and this book was all of them. Even after reading, I have questions and I am enthusiastic to find my answers in the next one...
I want to direct this review more towards the writer than the reader.
I was given this book for free at a convention in Vancouver. An act I am greatly appreciative of, especially since I spent a lot of time at this convention looking for books and this was the only vendor who really had a novel to show (and for free!).
Secrets is a book that starts off really well, becomes questionable in the middle, and ends the way it started -- awesome.
I enjoyed the setting of a world that found an alternative energy source and the problems that arise from it that parallel our own dependence on oil energy. The cliche of red = fire, green = nature, blue = water, white and black = good and evil is strongly present here and done to death. I would have liked some creative use of these color themes here, but that's a minor point when a good story is involved.
My largest criticism of this novel is the dialogue between the main characters, particularly Gabriel and Adin. They're supposed to be 20 and 28 years old, but talk like junior high teenagers. During scenes with a lot of dialogue, I began to think this novel was intended for a young adult audience, because the dialogue was unrealistic and juvenile. I hope that, as a new writer, the author has been given enough feedback to improve on his methods in this respect.
My favorite character was Nate, which may not be surprising, as he fit his character description the best in terms of actions he performed and lines he spoke.
Overall, the story and characters played out in a manner that was quite predictable and in a way that a reader would have seen coming from a mile away.
However, I did very much enjoy the alternate take on energy that this story provided, and the descriptions of factions and technologies warring with each other kept me turning pages and wondering how it could all play out. I'm very interested to see where this story will go now that the initial entry has taken place.
I apologize for being the first 3 star rating for your book, but I also believe you're on to something good here, and with some work on your dialogue writing, there is a bright future ahead.
I'm very much interested in continuing the ride that you have started, and look eagerly towards the next installment.

The first chapter had me hooked. I love a book that opens with action and intrigue. Already my mind was racing ahead trying to figure out where the story was going to go. I felt like it took a few chapters to establish the background, and I was tempted to skim them since they felt a little slow compared to the first. I’m glad I persevered though because the story really picks up again. If you need a bathroom break, take it around chapter five because once you get past there, you won’t want to put the book down.
The main character, Gabriel, was a surprise. I knew from the back of the book that he was going to have a freak encounter with “Eden’s Ore” but what I didn’t expect was how that would change him. He begins the novel as a 20 year old farm kid with no sense of direction and ends up being forced into a hero role with a clear sense of direction. A very clear sense. He takes it on rather begrudgingly at first and we get to witness his personal growth.
There are, of course, a few other subplots going on during the course of the novel, but in my opinion it all comes down to the classic good versus evil. Naturally I root for the good side to win, but with this journey it was never clear who was going to remain standing at the end. There is more-than-adequate resolution for this story, but the author has clearly set us up for the next book. And maybe more after that? I shed a few tears at one point – a pretty good sign that I was actually engaged with the characters and I look forward to seeing where they all are at the beginning of book two.
Bottom line: I saw this whole book play out in my mind like a movie. The blend of the story and the way it was told made for fantastic action in my mind. I would love to see it on the big screen one day. I would definitely recommend this novel to anyone looking to get their “toes wet” in the Sci-fi genre and to those that are already established fans. It does not disappoint.
I got to read this book for free because of an awesome R2R opportunity in the group YA Buddy Readers' Corner. I very much enjoyed reading this book and couldn't put it down. When I rate a book with four stars it means that I really liked it and five stars means it's one of my favorites. I felt like this book was in between.
I loved the flow of events and how it all worked together as one. However there were times when I thought it jumped to the next event too quickly, not necessarily in the story, but rather in the writing(but also I've been sick when reading this so that also might partially be me). Otherwise! I thought it was great!
This books grabs your attention immediately and holds it throughout the book and keeps you thinking about it when you stop reading, wondering what's going to happen next!
I can't wait to read the next one and see the progression of the story as well as the writing! :D

So I read the original about 10 months ago and finally got to reading the edited one and just finished it today(the above date)! I don't really have much to say because I love the book for the same reasons as I loved the original but even more now! I noticed different details with the characters and the plot but still some of the best and seemingly more important things was left the same or similar but improved. I was always really excited about how the author was going to change the books because it's such a bold decision and he really just kept faith and went for it and it's just something to admire. I'm super excited to now read the edited second book and then finish the series(since the 4th and 5th books will be out soon)! I don't really read e-books unless I can get them free - which I did for these ones - but I love these books so I really wanna get some money soon so I can buy printed copies of all of them!!!
Really great and such a great story, definitely would recommend to anyone!
Gabriel’s father discovered the ore. There are different colors of ore, and each color has different properties. One ore heals, another helps plants grow… Not much is known about the black or the white ore, the white being the rarest. Most or all of the ore emits radiation, so it is dangerous to be around. In fact, it is deadly to anyone who comes into contact with it. Some time before he died, Gabriel’s father gave Gabriel a glowing shard of white ore encased in a see-though container.
A tornado hits Gabriel’s farm, destroying everything. During the storm, the container enclosing the white shard of ore breaks and Gabriel falls on it. “The glowing white crystal was embedded in the center of his chest.” Will the chard kill Gabriel? He thinks he might be slowly dying.
The tornado pretty much changes Gabriel’s life. Everything he really cared about is gone now except for his brother, who was mostly gone anyway.
What happens when Gabriel tries to use the chard of ore?
In Eden's Ore, Bayly explores the corruption of greed and power and how they can change a person and their values. The ore, which is supposed to end the energy crises, becomes a hot commodity. Different factions are willing to kill to control all of it. The black ore is extremely volatile. Will they end up destroying us all? Where did the ore come from. Why does it possess powers?
Eden's Ore was interesting and entertaining, and is age appropriate for teens and up.
Disclaimer: I received an copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review
In a world where there is advanced technology but can't find ways to sustain the energy needed, the ores are the answer to everyone's prayers. Gabriel's dad is the one that discovered them, and worked in TERA, a powerful organization that makes technology that works on the ores powers. But after the death of his father, Gabriel is raised by his mother and Nate, his father's best friend, while his brother decides to work for TERA to continue his father's legacy. But one night everything changes, and Gabriel realizes that there is way more to the ores that he knows.
I really enjoyed this book. It was just what I wanted: A bit futuristic, with some mysterious powers, and good characters. I loved the writing, and some say that it starts slow, but to me, it gave me time to get to know the world, the characters and to connect to the story. I liked Gabriel, he can be a bit immature at times but he's strong, smart (most of the time) and knows what's important. I also liked Nate, and I want to know more about his past. I didn't find them annoying. I liked the story, I didn't find it slow or boring. It did feel a bit... small, but the world develops and expands even more in the second book.
I recived this ebook from the author in exchange of an honest review.
Wow. What a ride! I was just gonna read the first chapter to see if I liked it or not and suddenly I found myself at the beginning of chapter 34. Yeah, that happened.
I really really liked this book. It was incredibly fast paced and there was so much going on all the time. It was very sci-fi oriented, just as I was expecting and it didn't let me down at all. The whole idea about the ores was really good, although it was a little confusing with all the different colors - I hope to get to know more about that in the next book.
The characters were great, I especially liked Nate, he was a great character. I wasn't the biggest fan of Adin and I was glad he didn't appear more than he did.
As far as the writing style goes, I was a little confused from time to time - it was like I couldn't always tell who was the narrator even though I knew it.
I received a digital copy of this for a read-to-review kindly gives by the author B.V. Bayly!
2.5 stars... This is a YA book set around these magical ores that give special/weird properties
I did not like this book that much, some parts were okay, but I thought the pacing was rather slow for me. I did enjoy the beginning when the storm occurred. Gabriel's life turned upside down in just a matter of around 30 minutes! In this novel Gabriel, with his brother is discovering all of the Ore's strange powers while living with his brother after his house and farm got destroyed by the storm. Although I thought the Ore's were very unique, I was not really hooked to the story over all. I did enjoy the bit of a romance, but I wasn't very attached to Gabriel so I wasn't too into it :/ Overall, this was meh to me...but I am going to continue to the second book to see what happens!
Amazing read from start to finish! Great character development with an equally amazing story. I couldn't put it down and look forward to reading his next book. I picked this up expecting to find the normal but got a great surprise. It has everything you'd want, adventure, betrayal, intrigue and a little romance just to keep it interesting. Fast paced, fascinating characters, you never know quite what will come next, always looking forward to what the next page would reveal. Start it early in the evening, you will have a hard time putting it down!
I didn't have a clue as to what I was getting into when I first started reading Eden's Ore. I was quite surprised at how drawn into the story i became. Each chapter left me anxious to read the next. I noticed that some reviewers stated that the characters were undeveloped. I find this to be a plus so as to allow the reader to use his/her imagination. Reader imagination is just as important as the writers.
2 1/2 stars. Started off exciting and interesting, but slowed way down in the middle. I had a tough time finishing this book, and I think it was because I don't really like any of the characters, except Nate. I really enjoyed the end...it was just that middle. I wish I could listen to the next book to find out what happens to Gabriel, Nate, Adin and the others, but without that option, I will read it in a few months or so. (I hear good things about Book #3 too)
Likes: * Idea of colored ore as a source of natural resources * Nate was a cool friend, mentor, guardian and protector
Dislikes: * Too many bad guys - 3 groups: TERA (The Energy & Resource Acquisition), the fanatics in The Church of Humanity and Horsemen * Very complicated plot * Dr. Cymru ~ I hate that guy!!!
With-reservations: lots of religious issues and biases, science morality, violence, murder, kidnapping, using people, justified imprisonment and murder, neglectful parents
I received an e-book version of this book courtesy of the author in exchange for an honest review.
Living in a futuristic world with a widowed mother, a career obsessed brother, and a somewhat secretive army father-figure. Gabriel lived a normal simple life on his family's ranch until a super stormed tornado completely destroyed everything he knew. Now with the knowledge of his father's secret discovery of ores Gabriel must decide whether to destroy the ore in order to keep it out of the reach of those who want to use the ore's power for evil or just let it be and go back to living his simple life.
I give this book a rating of 4 out 5 stars. The beginning of the book was a little slow but I think it needed to be, to get ready for the action-packed middle to the end of the book. I saw a couple of grammatical errors in it (yes I'm a grammar freak please blame my job on that lol). I was also a little confused with all the different groups in the book as to who was good and who was evil. Other than that I thought the book was great. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes reading science fiction and fantasy.
UPDATE: January 15, 2016
I was given the rewritten e-book version of this book again courtesy of the author in exchange for an honest review.
Last time, I gave a 4 out of 5 star rating of this book. I don't change my rating of this book. What I have changed is liking the book a little more.
The beginning of the book last time was slow for me. This time it wasn't. I honestly liked the changes I saw in this book. I liked that Gabriel knew what the ore was this time around, that he knew there were rumored ore users. How he had lost control in the beginning of the book with the ore. How Adin was more of a brother this time around than last time of him basically being an untrustworthy relative. I liked how much more action there was in this rewrite. I also like that the entire book was not rewritten that there were still some scenes in the book that had stayed the same.
Overall, I liked that this book was rewritten. I liked how Gabriel changed from a clueless kid doing whatever everyone else wanted him to do and stumbled along the way, to this somewhat knowing kid who still needed help every now and then but if he had to he could do things alone. This time around I better understood Gabriel's decision of whether or not to destroy the ore.
An interesting new concept that I found unlike other books I’ve read however I found the storyline to be too complex and the pacing to be slow.
The main character is Gabriel, a normal guy who’s mother died in a storm that ruined his family home and forces him to live with his estranged brother. The effects of the storm leave Gabriel with a white shard lodged in his chest, a problem that doesn’t seem to matter much until it gives him some new and unexplainable powers. This is where I think the book becomes too complex, as it seems like everyone but him knows about the mysterious powers of these shards and others like it. The book becomes almost a military operation with various groups of people involved in either using these shards or trying to destroy them. Gabriel as a character didn’t seem to have a whole lot about him and he was a bit spoiled but the premise of the story offers a lot of opportunities for his character to be developed.
The secondary characters I found most noteworthy in this book were Nate, the father figure in Gabriel’s life, Adin Gabriel’s estranged brother. Nate is in my opinion the most likeable character in this book as he seems to be level headed and very aware throughout unlike other characters who seem to stumble from one event to another. Adin is similar to Gabriel as he seems virtually unaware of all the things going around him. There are many other characters in this book however I got extremely confused by the storyline so can’t really recall them.
The storyline as stated previously was very confusing; it ultimately felt like there was too much going on and not much explanation for any of it. The pacing was also quite disappointing as it seemed to make the very complex storyline drag.
This book while had an interesting concept didn’t really follow through, sorry 2 stars.
I loved the idea of the world, in the not to distant future, finding a new energy source to keep it going (how relevant is that to what scientists are trying to do today js).
Gabriel is a young man whose father discovered a new energy source, Ore. Gabriel then gets a piece of ore embedded into him and gains powers, which is uses to fight bad guys... KAPOW! ...sounds like it could be a graphic novel.
I am not usually one to like the sci-fi genre but I honestly enjoyed this novel, in fact I loved it. The story line is quite catchy and addictive, which makes me want to read the next one quicker. Some things were predictable but it was still exciting to read, even the fighting scenes kept me on my toes, instead of making me skip through them.
And how realistic is this story, can't you just imagine something like this happening in the near future. I am also very happy that the author kept the story sci-fi related and didn't try to hitch up the romance aspect (which is happening a lot with these types of books and its just getting annoying).
One fault would be that somethings weren't developed that well. They went from being little things to suddenly big things but weren't really explained how it happened but it was bearable... obviously, hence the four stars.

“Eden’s Ore” definitely is a dystopia you haven’t read before. In a not too distant future energy has become scarce, but there might be a solution: huge crystals – the ore – were found in a giant garden below Mesopotamia – Eden, if that rings a bell. Every colour has different properties like healing, heating or destroying. Can this be the solution for all of our problems?
First off, what an interesting premise! Too many dystopian books lack creativity, “Eden’s Ore” certainly does not. The story follows Gabriel, whose father first found the ore, on a trip through a world filled with power-hungry people. Several organisations fight over the ore’s use. Which one can be trusted? Can any be?
That being said, I did enjoy “Eden’s Ore”, though at some points I was a bit disappointed. The existence of the ore opens up so many possibilities and I thought they weren’t used enough by the author - in the sense that the story could have gone so many different ways but instead of going into depth it used too many different angles at once. This impacted the degree to which “Eden’s Ore” kept me hooked.
Anyway, I already started the second book and that one is awesome and a lot more unputdownable. I’d advise anyone who’s tired of reading the same dystopian novel over and over again to try “Eden’s Ore” – I’d also say it’s more interesting for male readers than many books in that genre on the market right now.

I loved the cover of this book, what intrigued me most about this book was the blurb. I have never heard the concept of Ore before so I was very excited to read it
It's difficult to say if the story was compelling as this book consisted a lot of setting the scene, a little background knowledge about the ore but I still found it difficult to comprehend the connection between Gabriel's DNA or blood and the ore. I feel like this has not been explored enough in the book!
There was not much romance in this book, there is a potential love interest which may or may not be developed in the next book
This is a great book by a new author. Set in the near future where a strange new energy source - the Ore - promises to save world, the hero suffers a bizarre accident which eventually reveals to him the potential for the Ore to both save the world, and destroy it. Mr. Bayly's writing is crisp and descriptive, and I was carried through the story so easily I found myself at the amazing end all too quickly. I hear the sequel is coming out this year - can't wait.
What a great read! I was hooked from the beginning. The author set the scene and pace very quickly but left time to develop the characters very well. I had a hard time putting this book down. It had a very original idea and was a fantastic and enthralling story from start to finish. I can't wait to read more from B.V. Bayly.
What an action packed fast moving story. When will the next one come out, I can hardly wait to read it, you can't keep us hanging, we need to see what will happen next! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I would recommend it to anyone that loves action, mystery, and the ability to root for the good guys. Wonderful!
I'm not sure about this one hence the three star rating...
I enjoyed some of the characters especially Nate and Gabriel. I found the pace of this book to be a little slow and I thought the ore concept was a little strange even though it seemed different and unique.
Honestly? I just didn't enjoy it as much as I though I was going too.
