Laugh out loud good! First, who on earth would name her child "Pumpkin"? Well Evie, Pumpkin's 14 year old mother, would. Evie is the the biggest con-woman ever and she has never met a man she didn't like. Evie is broke, homeless and running from some gangsters. Pumpkin is a beautiful, successful and extremely wealthy model. Guess who is about to run her best "con" yet. Lots of surprises and great characters in this book!
What a surprising change of pace from Michelle Lindo-Rice. This book was a bit edgier than her previous works and it was still enjoyable. It had some drama and suspense and a mother that you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy. My only complaint is that it wasn't longer because I selfishly wanted to know what happened with a few of the characters and their storylines.
A Piece of the Pie was a good story and my first book by this author. It was tough, as it hit some topics of abuse and choices in life that aren't always good ones and how that path sometimes goes. There's also redemption and forgiveness which made it so good! I look forward to reading more books by Michelle Lindo-Rice!
Okay I admit it. I am one of Miss Rice's biggest fans. And in my eyes she can do no wrong. I have read every book she has written. And her writing gets better and better with each new book. Now that's out of the way. Chile this book was straight fire from beginning to end. It had some oh no she didn't to oh my god moments. She describes it just right it's sweet and, spicy. In this book, we meet a young Evie who gives her pie to any boy who can give her something in return. Dive is what I call a latch key kid. Her mom works hard to provide for her only child. She also spends lots of time at,church and with a child like evie I can see why. As the story progresses dive becomes a teenage mom who then up and leaves her daughter pumpkin with her. And this where the story gets interesting. Evie needs money to pay off a loan shark and who should she turn to but her highly successful model daughter pumpkin. But will pumpkin give it to her is the question. Will all be forgiven? Can they have a mother daughter relationship? Well you will have to read to find out. So sit down and have a piece of this pie.
This woman Ms. Lindo Rice never ceases to amazes me. She did it again. 5 stars................
Pumpkin is a mega supermodel who is married to Cameron who has a secret that will rock their marriage and community. Evie is Pumpkin's mother that finds her way back home. Grandma B is the praying Grandmother that holds the family together. Mitchell is the chauffeur and bodyguard to Pumpkin is the lifesaver!
The story is well developed and detailed. The characters are realistic and everyone can relate to them. I love the flashbacks to keep the story juice and edgy. This is a story that was spicy and edgy for the author but I loved it. Waiting for book two and three right now.
While reading this book I had a roller coaster of emotions – I laughed, yelled, got mad, and jumped for joy. It was a few surprises throughout the book bit I held on for the ride and loved it.
Thanks, Ms. Lindo Rice for another great book. Kudos.
I have you ever felt giddy, I mean pure unadulterated joy when reading a story? Well I did when a danced through the pages of this story. Pumpkin, Evie, Bertie, Cameron, Mitch and the other characters help to make this a lively, intriguing, funny and true to life story. Ms. Bertie's wisdom was as precious as gold; the little nuggets she would share with Pumpkin were valuable life lessons that everyone needs to know so that they can grow and be a better person. The words of wisdom that Pumpkin dropped into Cameron spirit should be one of the ways that we wives should minister to our husbands and what can I say about Mitch and Evie? They are a dynamic duo, yes they need their own story. A Piece of The Pie is a very good story, it was definitely sweet and spicy. While I was reading I was think that this would make a good television series. So get you a nice comfy chair, prop up your feet and delve into some wonderful sweet pie.
A Piece of the Pie is a good read. The story was edgy, fast paced, and suspenseful. It had drama, a lil bit of action and a slew of lies and deception taking place. There are some OMG, as well as some Oh heck no moments. The characters are likeable, loveable and there's always at least one you gotta put on the prayer list.
What do you do when you're in trouble and the one person that can help you is the one you turned your back on? Evie Burkett decides she doesn't want to be a teen mom because the boy she tried to trap dogged her out. Now her daughter, Pumpkin, is a successful super model and Evie needs her money or it's death by association for her. Will Pumpkin welcome her with open arms and pay her debt or will Evie run game, like she's use to and get the 50,000? Taste and see in A Piece of the Pie!!
Evie Burkette uses her body to get what she wants. She sets her sights on Big Will and decides he's what she wants. Evie gets pregnant at the age of 14 hoping that will make Big Will hers forever, however that decision changes her life. Evie gives birth to Pumpkin and leaves town leaving her mother to raise Pumpkin. Years later Evie finds herself in a pickle and there's only one person who can really help her Pumpkin. Pumpkin and her husband are also having some trouble in their home when her mother decides to come back into her life. Even though Evie has been a terrible mother to her Pumpkin loves her mother and is willing to forgive her for past wrongs. This story of love and forgiveness was wonderfully written. Michelle is one of my favorite authors. You will not be disappointed with this read.
I loved Pumpkin! She was beautiful and truly displayed all of the real emotions of someone who's been touched by life in many ways. Evie was off the chain! The things she did, no mother should do. But, no matter what there's always some fun-loving person to bring balance and in this book that was Bertie. I loved her!
In this story, you meet good characters and see just how far some people will go to get what they want and the fallout from such selfish acts. Yet you also experience what happens when true love abides.
This story was really good but the ending felt a bit rushed and I did notice quite a few grammatical errors. I'll give it four stars!!!!
A Piece of the Pie is an excellent title for the storyline. Pumpkin raised by her grandmother is a successful model and wife. As the holiday approaches things start to fall apart in Pumpkin's life. Pumpkin's mother who never had any contact with her shows up broke, homeless and owing a loan shark money. Is Evie back to ask for forgiveness from Pumpkin or does she just want a piece of the pie?
This storyline was written well and right in time for family holiday. The storyline is very good and will hold your attention from the beginning to the end.
This book would make a great book club discussion.
Author Michelle Lindo-Rice has woven a continued tale of twists and turns;it truly was heartwarming, and spoke to my heart. It's about love, life lessons, and you find yourself relating to the characters, either loving them or wanting to choke the stuffing out of them. You will laugh, cry, and fuss at the characters; they're very well developed, and the plot is easy to follow. I can't wait to read the next book in this series, and will definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a read that leaves a mark. I love author Lindo-Rice's books; I've been reading from the very first book, and she has yet to disappoint me!
. A Piece of the Pie!!!! Excellent job Michelle Lindo-Rice on book 1!!! Evie was a hot mess; using men to obtain material things in life. Evie had no problem sleeping with men, without having any love for them. Evie only had love for one man. Evie became a single teenage mom, after having her baby girl; Pumpkin she left Pumpkin with her mom. Evie ended up with the wrong man and was left homeless and owing a large sum of money to a loan shark. Evie decides to go home for her benefit…
People only want what they can get out of you! Know who your friends are......I would have forgiven Cameron because he was truly sorry for his actions. Now Pumpkin's mother; a complete HOT MESS LOL :-) I could actually picture in my mind Pumpkin yelling at Evie for answers after she stole that painting out of her own daughter's home smh.....but love covers a multitude of faults/sins. This was an excellent read and I do recommend it for book clubs.
This was a nice holiday book, I enjoyed the story of Pumpkin and her family. This book really hit home, a daughter needs her mother love and we all long to have it. Just as they give us everything we will give them everything just to have their love and Evie exploited that from Pumpkin, I was really hoping she did right by Pumpkin. Great book Michelle Lindo-Rice.
This was a good read full of drama, suspense, secrets and deception. My favorite characters were Bertie and Mitch. I love this story line and I am looking forward to the next book in this series. Great job Michelle Lindo-Rice.
This book was great. It was Christian Fiction with spice, but not so raunchy that I had to skip over parts. A wonderful read, and I can't wait for the next book in the story.
First time I have done a read in one setting but that is what Michelle Lindo Rice will have you doing! As always, well written with a bit of sweet and spicy, just like the title. Loved her characters and the fact that blood does not always mean you are family and not being blood related made you family.
This story was really fun to read. Pumpkin's mother, Evie, left her as a baby only to return years later. The reunion was short-lived once Pumpkin find out why Evie returned. Evie redeems herself and show Pumpkin that she really loves her.
I loved the relationship that Pumpkin had with her grandmother, and boy, did Bertie give great advice. Evie was merely a user, caring about no one but her self and her needs- physical and financial. I'm not so sure if I could've received Evie back into my life so readily- illness or not, but that's where grandmom's advice comes in. I would hope that the love and faith that Pumpkin and Bertie displayed would change Evie for good. In the end, she showed some redeeming qualities. Excellent read.
