I would have expected much more in the "how to" realm. The author goes into great detail about the different fonts or letter types, but uses very few illustrations to assist the reader in visualizing what she's taking about.
To get the most out of this book, I'd recommend sitting next to an Internet-connected computer or tablet and be prepared to use some Google searches to find the missing illustrations.
In future books on this route of topic, it's much more beneficial to "show" rather than "tell."
This book was okay. It gave decent information on how to get started with calligraphy, but I felt the bulk of the book focused too much on picking the right pen and ink. I think I spend the first half of the book reading about getting the right pen, the different types of pens, and getting the right ink, and the different types of ink.
This is just a short book that gives you very very basic information on what you need (mostly the type of pen and ink) to get started. While it gives examples on the different lettering, it doesn't provide actual instructions on HOW to do lettering techniques.
