Have you ever been stalked by a lioness in Lycra? Did you know that being locked out of your car could lead to great insight? Would you believe one of the nicest things you can do for a friend is to hire a hit man to take care of your boss? Have you ever felt helpless when a loved one faced an illness? Dr. Alan Muskett has long shared his quirky and penetrating insights into the “mediphyical” world. Even as a surgeon and scientist, he shows us the world of medicine as a collage of characters, emotions, belief systems, and spirituality. With an ever-present humor, he explores a spectrum from marine disasters to his daughter’s poignant battle with a brain tumor. “True Enough”, a successor to “Mostly True,” brings you inside the medical world with laughs and love and insight.
I would say the second half of this book is better than the first. Being in the medical field myself, I greatly appreciate the authors dry sense of humor and honesty. Additionally he is quite reflective and offers good insight. I rated this book 3 stars but could be closer to 4 when compared with similar books. Each section of the second half of the book made very clear reflections or good life lessons, if the first half of the book was the same, it would most definitely earn 4 -5 stars in my opinion. Nonetheless I every much enjoyed the read and am happy I have it in my collection.
The epitome of “existential comedy”, with the author sharing his accumulated wisdom in a lovely play of deeply meaningful narratives interspersed with lighthearted jokes and anecdotes of sheer silliness. I was fortunate to come across this book as a recommendation from my husband, who had met Dr. Muskett while living with his lovely daughter—Sally—in Seattle. Highly recommend it!
