Child of Ebenezer

Rate this book
Grace Wentworth lived in Mellingroyd, a Yorkshire mill town, at the end of the last century. Her father was the first follower in an obscure religious sect called the children of Ebenezer. Her mother was dead. A victim to circumstances, Grace was allowed to meet only people who belonged to the same religion as herself. But when her father appointed Ruth Forrester to be Grace's governess, her whole life changed -- until Miss Forrester was dismissed for reading Shakespeare, leaving Grace more lonely than before.

A talented writer but a depressing story about a child brought up by religious fanatics. I found a copy in the amazing town of Hay-on-Wye in Wales.
