It's been a long time since a book has made me cry, the last probably being The Fault in Our Stars, and I loved it. I originally read this book after Benjaminoftomes on Youtube spoke about it and when I started reading I got hooked, flying through it. It was just so real. And I never really read witchcraft (??) kind of books but I loved loved loved this one and I'll definitely be reading more from Ms. Lepore!!

I felt like Evanescent was a twisted madern day fairy tale of Snow White. I absolutely loved it. Even if Gabriella Lepore did have me crying at the end. Shame on her!! lol I have to say Evanescent was not what I expected but it was so AH-MAY-ZING!!! The world built in this story is one I haven't heard before and loved reading something new and different for a change. It was still in the paranormal/fantasy genre that I love but had so much going on constantly. There was no awkward wait, the drama began immediately and kept entranced through out the whole story, even at the end I still wanted more. I can't wait to see what Gabrielle comes up with next.

This was my first read by Gabriella and I found it to be quite entertaining. We follow three guys and our main character, Bronwen, as they try to protect each other while one of them is being hunted.
I thought Felix, one of the guys, was hilarious! His character was the one that captured my attention since page one. His personality was utterly amazing to witness and his heart was definitely something to appreciate. In my opinion, I felt like his character was more thought out than the other ones.
Bronwen was just 'eh' to me. I didn't feel any connection to her and her actions grew to be a bit predictable.
Loki was adorable and Alistar just rubbed me off as a quiet guy for some reason. The bond between the guys was beautiful to be a part of but I still felt like Felix outshone all of them. I have no idea if that was Gabriella's intention but it is what it is.
I also was NOT on board with the small 'romance' part of the story. It's a sad day when I write those words but it's the truth. It wasn't as subtle as I would've loved it to have been; It came too suddenly and I couldn't believe any of it. No matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't see it.
Another thing that didn't rub me the right way was that the three guys were known to be incredibly powerful but I honestly didn't see it. I would've loved to WITNESS their incredible power instead of being told about it. We got to see a little bit of it but it wasn't enough to sway me. I just felt like it was a huge cop out.
Now for the positives:
The format in this book was outstanding! If I wasn't so smitten with Felix, the format itself would've been the one making turn the pages. The one thing that had me almost giving this book 3 stars was that spectacular ending. I bow down to Gabriella for going in that direction with her story. It's something I rarely see in the books I read and it came to a huge blow to me. It made me shed some tears and I don't regret any of it. The twists we encountered through this story were amazing and I never saw them coming.
All in all, I will definitely be reading more by Gabriella in the future.

I adored this sweet, beautiful, funny and entertaining tale. It made me laugh out loud, weep, shake my head and long for the days when I was younger. I enjoyed this as an adult but would have loved it as a child. The quality of writing, characterization and story were outstanding and reminded me of the wonderful Diane Wynne Jones’ works.
The innocent love between Felix and Bronwen is heart-warming and the brotherhood between Felix, Alistair and Loki is entirely endearing.
I feel I cannot write more on how much I enjoyed this without uncontrollably gushing so I will just say this…
I thoroughly recommend it to readers of all ages – if only to remind yourselves of the sweetness of youth…

This book 5 stars for breaking my heart and making me cry (and I never cry!).
It was such a beautiful tale of friendship, of love and of selflessness. It was dark, fun, with action, but also sweet and deep and tender.
Think Disney but with a darker.
There is some sort of insta-love but strangely enough it didn't bother me (as it usually does) plus the books is pretty short so--.
As I said, think Disney---I have never heard anyone complain because the princess ends up with the prince! This is a bit the same way just more bittersweet (way more!).
The ending was the right one for the story m but still terribly heartbreaking and it made me cry (If I think of it I will start crying again)...my poor heart is in pieces.

I really love the cover of this book although I’m not really sure how it’s connected to the story. But look at it. It’s so lovely, and I’m glad that it is because it made me download the book in the first place.
The book starts out with Felix, Alistair, and Loki. Three young boys that have been poisoned by the witch, Margo Bates. Instead of killing them, they were cursed with immortality. From this prologue, I was already connecting with the three of them, and I really felt sad for them. Yes, they were foolish, but they’re not really terrible people. I think love at first sight is possible because I loved these three from just that one scene.
Fast-forward to hundreds of years later~ Ada Snow, Bronwen’s grandmother has the gift of foresight. And when she sees that Bronwen would be in grave danger, she sends her away to Felix for protection. But things aren’t so simple because Ada has a lot of secrets that she isn’t willing to tell Bronwen. She merely asked Bronwen to trust her, which of course Bronwen did because Ada was her only family left.
There’s a lot of action because of what hunts down Bronwen, and I was definitely scared. It was really powerful, and defeating it was definitely not simple. But I also really wanted to know that everything would be okay. I mean it’s a book so it should be, but of course I need to know exactly what happens. There were so many secrets and mysteries that I just needed to know about! I was just so captivated by the story, and it turned me into an emotional wreck. I got so hung over by this book.
I think that Bronwen has erratic behavior, but it didn’t stop me from loving her. There were some times that I didn’t like her because she wouldn’t listen or she would start drawing out conclusions, but I’m not sure if we can blame her considering the situation she was in.
My favorite part of the story were definitely the boys. Even though Felix was given most of the attention, I also got to know Alistair and Loki better. I love love love them! (Sorry if I keep on repeating myself) Felix can get cocky and impatient, but he’s also adorable, he’s really sweet, and he likes making people laugh. I guess he can also be considered the leader of the group. Alistair is the eldest of them all, and he’s the silent and perceptive type. Loki is the pudgy kid with a lot of energy. He’s also very sweet and he even considered Bronwen as a sister. They were really great characters. They loved each other dearly, and I think they were lucky enough to live a long life with each other. They just really made me want to cry.

OVERALL, I LOVE THIS BOOK! I really really really love it even though it badly broke my heart. I just love the three boys, and I feel so sad for them, and I just love them. The story was thrilling and entertaining, and I was surprised so many times along the way. This was just really wonderful, and I’m glad I tried it out even though I first judged it by its cover. It’s as beautiful as it looks. It’s funny. It’s captivating. It’s awesome.

Evanescent is a young adult/paranormal book. I read this within a day—unable to put it down. It is slightly different than your usual young adult books with a paranormal theme. Although you can see traces similar to retelling of fairytales and stories like Twilight, this book is its own.
Characters: The book is written in third person narrative mainly following Bronwen. Bronwen is cast into a paranormal world that she didn't know existed when her grandmother had a psychic vision that something was hunting her. Bronwen is sent to an abandoned castle where three boys reside. These are not your typical boys; they cannot die. No, they are not vampires or werewolves or anything like that, but I'll let you read what happened to them. Felix, Alistair, and Loki are friends but more like brothers after spending over two hundred years together. They are fun loving and compassionate. Bronwen is also easy to like and relatable. The characters were fun and complimented each other well.
Plot: The plot moves along well and would be an easy read for most young adults. Unlike most British reads that I have read (yes, I am American-but probably born British in another lifetime), I hardly noticed the few British terms and phrases in this book. The book keeps you wondering the why's and how's at a steady pace, but eventually answers everything by the end. It also has a sweet romance, not heavily done which made it realistic and nice to read.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. It was a great fast read, and I hated to see it end. If you like young adult books with a paranormal twist, then you should try this book out.

If anyone wants to see a perfect example of snark and sass with sweet romance, I’m shoving this in your face. This book was wonderful, even if the ending did leave me pouting a bit. A loose retelling of Beauty and the Beast, it’s one of those I’ve wanted to read for awhile, so when the freebie promotion came around, I couldn’t resist.
The plot:
This book is a pretty quick read, about two and a half hours-ish. I kind of wanted more expansion on the nature of the magical, who had made the magical weapons, who had sent the Severan (can’t remember if this was explained or not), etc. On the other hand, this story really didn’t need to be bogged down with details, it flew just fine on its own.
The characters:
Like I said, great sass. Bronwen and the boys were utterly adorable and the immortality jokes were especially funny. I kind of wish this was a series, just because I enjoyed it so much.
This story is one of immortality about the downsides. The boys have lived for around two hundred years and have wanted to die for about a hundred and eighty. (On a side note, I think it’s interesting that people keep writing these stories about the drawbacks of immortality when it has been the dearest wish of people generations and ages over. Anyway.)
A fun read and I am now very curious about the author’s other works. If I ever get my demented Amazon account sorted, I’ll have to visit her author page.

I really liked this story, i think it was different to other stories and it wasn't predictable. I wasn't expecting what bronwen discovered at the end, i was completely in shock because i knew they were hidding something from her, but never that.
I fell in love with Felix from the beginning, i have a soft spot for characters like him that are cocky, egocentric but kind and loving in the inside. I really liked the other characters as well Bronwen, Allistar and Loki. And the friendship between the three boys was so unconditional, they had been through so much together. So many years of life and they always felt like they didn't belong, always afraid of being with normal people because they were haunted by the memories of what happend with their families the first and last time they were in contact with humans before Bronwen. They had lived for hundreds of years, but they weren't really living, they just existed.
I think the book was a 3.5 stars for me, but then i read the ending. I cried while i read the last pages of this books. What a beutiful and sad ending, i understood that it was the way it had to end but it still was heartbreaking. And when i read this:
" With Mind Strong…
And Heart True…
I Will Live Eternity Loving You…. "
This was absolutely devastating, beautiful but devastating. I can't believe how perfect Felix and Bronwen were for each other and how their story ended in a painful way but it was the right way.

Evanescent was a wonderful book. It was an amazing story with characters I loved getting to know. The storyline as well put together and it was extremely original. I have to say, I've never read a story like it.
I loved how the story didn't have too much of a complicated storyline behind it. It was pretty simple, which made it a fast and easy read. Gabriella had a wonderful way of throwing things at you and being able to keep things secret until the very end. It definitely added to the drama of the story line.
Their weren't too many characters, which made it easy to keep track. I loved meeting the different characters and learning about their past. My favourite characters had to be Felix Cavara and Bronwyn (the main character) because of their connection and the way they were together. I thought it was wonderful.
Again, this book was such an amazing, fast paced read with a kicker. It's definitely not a traditional love story, and that's what made it ten times better. I have to give this book 5 out of 5 stars. Wonderful!

Wow what a book! I loved every minute. There were a couple of "I didn't see that coming" moments that I liked. The story line was well developed. I loved the paranormal twist. I really hated to see this book end. I really enjoyed this book.
Bronwen is a young girl who lives with her grandmother. Her grandmother has visions. When one of those visions show Bronwen in danger, her grandmother gets her out of bed in the middle of the night. She is sent to the castle with a letter. The letter begs for protection of Ada's granddaughter, Bronwen. What danger is Bronwen in? What does she find at the castle? Do those living at the castle protect her?
I highly recommend this book to anyone that likes YA paranormal. This is the first book I have read by this author, but I definitely look forward to reading much more by her! Thank you, Gabriella, for a great read!!

I really enjoyed this book. It was very well written and detailed. The characters were very realistic, attachable, and dynamic, something that I believe is very important in books.
The book starts with a chase. A young girl, Bronwen, is being chased by some unknown hunter for reasons unknown at first. Her grandmother, a psychic, sees this creature coming for her and calls for the help of three young boys who are immortal due to a witch's curse. These three young boys are adorable and naive due to their seclusion from the outside world, particularly Felix. He is a very literal person. As time goes on, Brownen and Felix's relationship develops. The ending of the book was a shocker and made me sad >.> but I can't really give a book a bad review just because I Didn't like the ending haha.
The book was great and I definitely recommend it :)

These three young boys are adorable and naive due to their seclusion from the outside world, particularly Felix. He is a very literal person. As time goes on, Brownen and Felix's relationship develops. The ending of the book was a shocker and made me sad >.> but I can't really give a book a bad review just because I Didn't like the ending haha.
The book was great and I definitely recommend it :)

Do you ever read a book and fall so in love that you immediately add all of the author’s other work to your shopping basket? Because that is basically what happened when I read Evanescent.So please bear with me while I fangirl the hell out of it.
YES. There were a few flaws. There was some insta-loving. There was some weird grandmother behaviour. It was also too short for my liking. :D
I DON’T FREAKING GIVE A DAMN BECAUSE OH MY GOD FELIX.
I instantly fell for Felix. Felix was very much like Peter Pan: cocky, mischievous and still retaining that naivety of a 17-year-old. He was also completely charming and a true gentleman once you got past the slightly arrogant front he put up. Swoon.
Bronwen was great, too: 16-years old and assertive enough to counter Felix’s bravado, but also with the insecurities you’d expect of a 16-year-old.
While Felix and Bronwen did have a bit of an insta-love relationship, I didn’t care! The chemistry between these two was incredible. I was squeeing from their first meeting onwards, and I wanted them to be together. I wanted moooooore. I want to cry just thinking how it wasn’t enough. I would gladly pay for a completely fluff-filled novella of just these two being so painfully wonderful together. There wasn't even that much action, but all the hand-holding and close encounters were enough to make me lightheaded. A++ for not going straight for the making out to build up tension!
Alistair and Loki were Felix’s band of troublemakers, with Alistair trying to keep Felix in check. Loki was just COMPLETELY ADORBS. Permanently a kid and SO DAMN CUTE. And these boys loved and trusted each other completely and dfahohfohfaofa. Let's not forget that all three of them had supernatural powers as well! Yay for showing off to impress the girl and fight scenes!!!
Ok, but what about the plot and world-building? Both were great! The story started in the middle of a winter night with Ada, Bronwen’s grandmother, rushing into the room and shoving Bronwen out the door with instructions to seek out Felix in the supposedly abandoned castle up the mountain. Bronwen was being hunted, but why and by what were a mystery. In exchange for her protection, Ada offered Felix (in writing), something that he and his friends had been looking for for two centuries.
The whole story was filled with humour and excitement and ridiculously cute moments. There was one scene in particular that was just so Howl’s Moving Castle. The boys were–well–boys, and the state of their home showed it. In swept Bronwen, finding the kitchen in a state, and proceeded to clean the lot up. The boys’ reaction was hilarious. And they had a library WITHOUT ANY BOOKS. Blasphemy. I also cried hard while reading this.There were a few great plot twists, and the end was to die for. LOL. I won’t say anything else except that, Lepore, you and I have some plotting to do for a sequel because this story cannot end. I NEED MORE FELIX. And there is so much else to explore, like the consequences of Bronwen’s discovery. I have a totally legit way of making a sequel happen, so let’s talk, L. We can bring Ben into the fold. In fact, I’m going to have a talk with him when I see him later this month.
All in the name of more Felix.
In the mean time, I’m expecting Secrets in Phoenix to arrive in the post soon! I’m going to be eating up Lepore’s work if it’s all as good as Evanescent.

The Writing:
This point was what got me into requesting this book. I heard so much about Gabriella Lepore from benjaminoftomes and he said many times how amazing her books are that when I saw this I just had to give it an opportunity. And I’m glad I did. This book was fast paced and easy to read. I enjoyed the writing. We read mostly from Bronwen’s POV but there are some scenes that we get to read from other character’s POVs.
The Story:
I liked the concept of this story.
This is about three boys that are immortal, Loki, Alistair and Felix. And Bronwen, who needs their protection from a hunter. This is like the basis. Then things happen.
I think this book is about the importance of life and the people around us. It’s about people living again.
There are so many emotins involved here. You feel happy and in love but then sad and it makes you grateful and sometimes wish for relationships like the ones in here. The relationships in this book are beautiful and pure.
I’m not saying this book will be life changer, what I’m saying is that it definitely makes you feel different emotions and that can be quite touching.
I don’t want to say a lot about the plot because it’s best for you to discover this story, these characters and experience it by yourself.
The end was like right and not. It made me happy and not. It broke my heart and not.
The Characters:
•Bronwen: At the beginning, I wasn’t sure I would like her. But then I did. Maybe she was too naïve sometimes, but she was quite understanding and I liked her reaction to things that happen.
•Felix: He was this boy too old. He was the mixture of what could have been and what didn’t happen, of what he was and what he became, he was this young boy wise as an old man. I really liked him.
•Alistair and Loki: I liked them! Loki was the younger brother and was sweet and I felt, more innocent. Alistair was the reasonable voice, he was the ‘head’ of the team.
•One of my favourite things was the relationship between Felix, Alistair and Loki because they were friends but more than friends, brothers. Such a beautiful, pure relationship.
This was a fast but great read. With good characters and great relationships. The emotions this gives are great. The end heart-breaking and not. Just give this an opportunity.

I got this book for free some time ago......(I don't even remember, it's been that long) on my kindle. I have over 100 unread books on my kindle and I was scrolling through some of my older ones trying to read then so I could remove them and trying to keep organized since I am constantly getting books to read. Anyways.....
I did not like this book. The characters were unbelievable. I think it might of been meant for a 10 year old girl? Which I am not against reading books meant for young readers, as a matter of fact, I often do and love them. This book was just wrong on so many levels. I am used to the meet and fall madly in love aspect of young adult books, it's a cliche that needs to be fixed really. I knew going in that it was not a long read and that there would probably be massive character development issues/plot issues. I wasn't prepared for the train wreck that I got. I pushed through trying to read as fast as I could. Maybe even faster then I have ever read in my entire life just to spare my eyes the pain of the electronic page turn. Most people would say why even finish it? I feel it is my duty since I apparently at one time (maybe in a half lucid state of mind? downloaded it) thought it would be interesting to read. The synopsis does have some promise. The grammar was not great and I found many misspellings. (which I am used to reading indie books but at least they have other great things to offer....character development, plot development and an original story line)
Now off to my number one main reason why I did not like this book!!!!!!!!
I am sure the author has read Tuck Everlasting (one of my favorite books of all time) as the story was a complete ripoff. The delivery was underwhelming and just sad. The least the author could have done was put a disclaimer...."This is my messed up rip off of Tuck everlasting, which I thought would be ingenious to add a hell hound, and failed miserably."

What a great book! This is a wonderful book for YA. I think my granddaughter, who is a young teen, will like it as much as I did. It is refreshing to read a book like this one.
I don't want to give away the story but I will say this. It is about three boys who make an eternal mistake and the girl who saves them.
I really liked the view point of this author and her writing style. This is the first book of hers I have read and I hope it isn't the last. Great job, Gabriella!

This book really draws you into the story. It's short but really well written and the type of story that is easy to get lost in. What I think I really loved about the story was that it read like a true folktale even if it was a classically formulate YA fantasy. It had all the makes of one of those epic stories. In fact, as I was reading it, I couldn't help but to be reminded of someone of my favorite Celtic Folk stories from when I was a child and it was awesome.

Not entirely sure how I feel about this book. On one hand, I liked the plot, but on the other, it didn't work well for me. That being said, I think it might work better for a much younger demographic. I bumped it up to 3 stars because of the ending, it was unexpected, or I'm just a hopeful romantic that was caught off-guard.

And it was Beautiful.
Honest to God up until about 98% this book was going to get a 3.5 from me but the ending was, awe-inspiring that i don't have the heart to stick with the 3.5, this book gets a solid four stars from me.
Two of my favorite lines - and this had a lot of good lines
"I've lived many years," He said, "but I have never love so deeply, and so unconditionally until this very second."
"I will live eternity loving you."
Um, okay, wow. Still reeling over how beautiful of an ending that was. Usually i don't talk about the ending until the end of my review, but holy hell i honestly believe that anyone should read this for the ending.
Okay time to get to my normal type of review, and find you a song! "If I Ever Leave This World Alive" by Flogging Molly and/or "You Are the Moon" by The Hush Sound
So first thoughts, well i think you should stop reading this review and go ahead and read this book thats what i think. But i will admit that there were quite a few things that bothered me about this book and i will go in more depth about that later. But it was light-hearted and fun. I was laughing and awwing at almost every turn. I think that if you are looking for a fast paced, and good read then you have found it.
Now with that said, let me tell you more about my feelings on the plot: Okay i have mentioned before that i love when books just jump right in the story, well there is jumping right into it and then there is jumping in the middle of everything and i was a put a little off balanced by how quickly this started. It was all, bam, slam, and go! And i was like WHOA, WHOA calm right down now! Give me a moment to get this around my head. i guess one of my big problems with it was the lack of any concern by the MC really that she is thrown right into this.
Oh because that summary sucks by the way here is my short version because i understand why it is the way it is:
Bronwen is awakened at midnight and told by her grandmother to go to the castle up on the hill and seek help. She must do this, she is in grave danger. There are three boys, well boys is a very objective term i promise you ;), curses, danger, humor, and all around fun!
So that is my summary i hope you enjoyed that... i know i did. I don't like doing summaries i don't want to accidentally give anything away. Okay so going back to what i was talking about, i was really unnerved on how well Bronwen was taking everything and she never asked once, WHY the hell is she in trouble? Yeah don't worry you have to wait sometime to find out. Deal. It was more than that, it is a hard thing to do so much humor and trying to throw in serious moments as well, and there were quite a few scenes in this book that achieved that, other times it fell a little flat for me. I was wondering how sincere the moment truly was, you know? Well you don't because you haven't read the book yet which i don't understand why you haven't. Really i truly believe all the things that bothered me was truly worth it all. Okay so i guess that was all that really bothered me. Oh well there was some parts that seemed really anti-climactic, but oh wellll.
I will say this, the plot was like i said fast paced which was really nice because i like a book that keeps you moving and on your toes. I loved the humor that was in the book, seriously yay! And again that ending! OMGOSH! swooning.

Bronwen: while i am still pissed that she was SO willing just to accept things as they were right off the bat because i mean, if that happened to me i would be demanding answers until i was blue in the face or Felix was on the ground holding his manly bits because i just beat the shit out of him. But hey that is just me. I liked Bronwen though for the most part, she was truly an amazing character. She was self-less, and very caring. She was sweet but strong. She was funny, and i really don't recall her going into those moments that every MC seems to have when they are teenagers, that being them going, "oh i am soooo ugly!" "how could he possibly like me?!" yeah no i don't think she does that. At least i don't recall her doing that... hmm i am not sure. But either way i still liked her even if she does do it and i just don't remember.
Felix: At first i think i hated him, i think i truly hated him. Then i started to like him, then i started to love him, and then i started to doubt my feelings for him because as much as i loved his non-broody like personality, thank god we finally have a light-hearted MC man! OH god! I like a man who can make me laugh- is that so wrong? It might also help he was black hair, and HOT! what? no but seriously he was. then i loved him again, and i think i sort of hate him right at the moment but at the same time i don't. i think you can label our "non-existent" relationship as complicated if you want, that might be easier. Oh and my, my this boy is a smart one, but secrets dont make friends my friend!
So the ending i am going to put in a spoiler, and seriously i don't recommend you looking at this unless you have finished the book. i am being dead serious. So there you have it.

Evanescent by Gabriella Lepore is the story of Bronwen Snow, an ordinary girl living with her grandmother, who is hurled from her normal life when her grandmother tells her that "it's coming for you", gives her a letter and tells her to find a Felix Cavara in the castle up the hill.
Bronwen is shocked but follows her grandmother's orders, especially since the latter's visions are usually "frighteningly accurate."
The novel opens with an eerie and suspenseful first chapter, keeping the reader on edge and prompting them to carry on. The chapters are usually short, some of which are divided into several parts.
Arriving at the castle, Bronwen meets three boys, not older than she is, namely: Felix Cavara and his two friends Alastair and Loki.
According to Ada, Bronwen is being hunted down by a "Severan", and we discover later that Felix for all the things he says is unaware of the dangers of that creature.
"It follows you," Ada mumbled vaguely. "It's been hunting you, and it's finally coming for you."
…"The only thing you can do… is run."
Narrated in the third person, Evanescent is an easy, quick read. However, there was something off about the narration for me. I cannot pinpoint it exactly but I felt that although the writing was smooth, the narration wasn't light. It was irritating a bit.
There isn't a wide assortment of characters, which is good – just the main ones and a couple of minor ones, some of whom put the whole story in motion.
I disliked that Felix kept nagging about how he'd been living for "hundreds of years" when we discover that the hundreds are only 200 years. I felt it was an exaggeration, one Bronwen picked up.
"The cure to your ailment lies within me. If I am to die, you shall never be saved. So, let your father do his worst, for it will make my retribution all the more poetic."
Although the novel is supposed to be centred on Bronwen, whom I thought was too naïve, her character development comes only at the very end. We see development in Felix's character, especially as he begins to realise that his selfish actions have affected others and continue to do so.
Loki was mostly the most lovable character, especially since he is the youngest in the novel, having been cursed with Felix and Alastair at the age of 12; whereas the others were cursed at the age of 18.
Although Felix's snarky character often lightens the mood and provides humour, it is sometimes too much. His flirtations with Bronwen are not a lot of fun either – in my opinion at least.
"My condition? How tactfully put. I think the correct term is mortally challenged. No, if you must know, I like to keep a low profile because when you're as scandalous as I am, it's bound to create a certain, let's say, adoration. A following, if you will."
Evanescent is not free of romance, though it is all clean with just some holding hands and may be a kiss.
My main problem with the novel was the implausibility of several scenes and events. At one point, having knocked out Felix, the Severan catches Bronwen, while it appears that Alastair and Loki are standing there watching. There other instances, but apart from the narration this was the second most irritating thing about the novel.
Evanescent covers many themes such as trust and betrayal, love, friendship and of course the evanescence/transience of life and how things happen for a reason.
What I liked most about the novel was the ending: It was different. I totally enjoyed and respected that. I did not see it coming.
Last but not least, the cover is gorgeous!
"I was scared to death in there," Bronwen whispered.
"And you'd rather be killed to death out here?"
Overall rating for Evanescent: 3 stars.

I gave a cut to my abstinence from books about witches thanks to Lepore who offered me a copy for this blog tour. What can I say? Obviously the first thing that hit me was the cover. I found it absolutely divine. Then I read the plot and I said: "let's try". I noticed with astonishment and regret, that there aren't many books that deal with witches who've read so far.
The story begins with the escape of Bronwen, a girl who lives in a cottage with her grandmother, and her research on a certain Felix Cavara. Her grandmother, Ada, leads her to seek the protection of Felix and his friends from an obscure hunter called Severan and therefore the girl will find all at once to live in an old castle in ruins with the three boys. But they are not simple adolescents. Because of a witch, Felix, Alistair and Loki have become immortal and have dragon's blood in their veins. Many people yearn for the immortality but it's a blessing or a curse? For those who possess it is more the second option and the boys wish with all their hearts to put an end to their damn life.
They will help Bronwen to rid of the Severan's threat but at that point it will be outside disconcerting truth that put in crisis the existence of the protagonist and her special relationship with Felix.
Adventure, memories of the past, curses, the struggle between love and friendship are what goes into creating this story.
The character of Bronwen such as Ada sometimes I have unpleasant results while I loved Felix. He's a guy who takes everything lightly and is very sarcastic as well as fascinating. I was able to appreciate the main character only on the final which proved to be a surprise. The fact that it was not the ending I expected, convinced me to increase the appreciation of the book rating. I like things outside the usual patterns. Then there are Alistair and Loki. The friendship between the three immortals is deep and it moved me to see how much loyalty and trust there is in them, as they faced eternity in which they were always the same in a changing world.
I was very undecided on the assessment to be given to this reading. Reading another book of Lepore, I noticed that she have the bad habit of speeding things up. I read the first few pages and in a moment I find myself at the end, the bargain with some question marks. Her style is quite good and this is why, with the character of Felix and unexpected end, I decided to give this vote.

I gave a cut to my abstinence from books about witches thanks to Lepore who offered me a copy for this blog tour. What can I say? Obviously the first thing that hit me was the cover. I found it absolutely divine. Then I read the plot and I said: "let's try". I noticed with astonishment and regret, that there aren't many books that deal with witches who've read so far.
The story begins with the escape of Bronwen, a girl who lives in a cottage with her grandmother, and her research on a certain Felix Cavara. Her grandmother, Ada, leads her to seek the protection of Felix and his friends from an obscure hunter called Severan and therefore the girl will find all at once to live in an old castle in ruins with the three boys. But they are not simple adolescents. Because of a witch, Felix, Alistair and Loki have become immortal and have dragon's blood in their veins. Many people yearn for the immortality but it's a blessing or a curse? For those who possess it is more the second option and the boys wish with all their hearts to put an end to their damn life.
They will help Bronwen to rid of the Severan's threat but at that point it will be outside disconcerting truth that put in crisis the existence of the protagonist and her special relationship with Felix.
Adventure, memories of the past, curses, the struggle between love and friendship are what goes into creating this story.
The character of Bronwen such as Ada sometimes I have unpleasant results while I loved Felix. He's a guy who takes everything lightly and is very sarcastic as well as fascinating. I was able to appreciate the main character only on the final which proved to be a surprise. The fact that it was not the ending I expected, convinced me to increase the appreciation of the book rating. I like things outside the usual patterns. Then there are Alistair and Loki. To Finally Have An End or Love? . . .
This story honestly left me conflicted, the plot itself is unique but the character chemistry felt odd and overly juvenile at times. The novel is young adult fantasy with a female lead who is supposed to be modern day girl and a male lead who reminds me of Peter Pan with friends that really do resemble the lost boys.
Set in England's Cynon Valley a seventeen year old girl named Bronwen Snow is rushed from her cottage by her grandmother Ada to seek sanctuary at The Castle. Bronwen is told to ask for Felix Cavara and to deliver a letter to him. Running to the place everyone tells rumors about is the last thing Bronwen wants to do in the middle of the night but when Ada tells her to flee because something is coming for her she runs. Once at the castle she comes to find Felix is a boy her own age who lives with two friends named Alistair and Loki. The letter Bronwen delivers explains to Felix that Ada will grant him and his friends their cure if Bronwen is kept safe. So a tenuous relationship is formed and soon becomes more as Felix lets Bronwen not only into his home, life and secret, but even his heart. However, the problem of Bronwen's safety remains ever pressing and the cure for the boys may be too much for any of them to seek.
Overall, interesting read which left me feeling okay but wanting more. I sought to fall for the characters relationship but it felt juvenile and too friendly to be believable. Bronwen and Felix had witty banter that read more like best friends or siblings. Felix was a snide 217 year old kid-man who if he was real I'd have avoided for fear of slapping his face because of how annoying he was at times, despite Felix thinking himself charming. Also I found Bronwen to be a mysterious heroine, who's purpose was not revealed until the very end of the book and then the story just ended with no real sense of more for her life, which left the story feeling open. The story itself had the makings for a truly unique epic tale, but since it was hard to tell where and when the story was set at times. I understood Bronwen grew up in a valley but it seemed as if she was a all alone with no friends or school or town, so when she was hunted it was strange no one wondered where she was when she holed up with Felix, Alistair and Loki. As I said I felt entranced and then confused by the story, but I believe for a young adult book this novel is okay. So is you are looking for a book about a girl running from something after her and a boy with his friends pledge to protect her because they are not what them seem, than this book may interest you.

The prologue piqued my interest and it made me excited for the rest of the story but then I got further into the book and I lost that interest. Honestly I was quite bored and I think it's because I didn't really get to know the character before things went down. And throughout the story I was hoping to find that connection with her but there was nothing.
In the first chapter she's swept out of her house, her grandmother telling her she saw danger coming for Bronwen in a dream and now she needs to go find this person that lives in this castle deep in the forest. This person is supposed to be able to protect Bronwen from this unknown danger. We don't know why she's being hunted, what makes her so special and honestly I don't have the heart to finish this book to find out. I just don't.
I tried picking it back up after a fun weekend with the in-laws but I couldn't force myself to finish a single chapter. Now, some things held my interest like the fight scenes against the hunter and Bronwen trying to talk Felix into going to the library, someone hitting on Felix at the library, and when they actually found what creature was hunting her and how to kill it. But that was all practically in a couple of chapters and once we moved forward in the story I just lost interest again because I didn't really care about their daily life as they waited to come up with a plan to kill the hunter and how to get what they needed to do it.
I don't know, I wish to be more interested in the book to see what everyone is raving about. To see the heartfelt ending of the book but I just can't make myself to continue to read it to get to that part. I need to move on from this boring and numb story. At least, that's how it felt for me. This may be more to your liking than mine.
Overall I tried getting into it but I just didn't have any connection to the characters. And I don't know if I got an ARC as some of the dialog was kinky where one person finished speaking but in the same paragraph another character started speaking so it would get confusing sometimes and I had to go back and figure out who was saying what, so I know this didn't help my flow of reading.

The story is about Bronwen ( a strange name right? Apparently of Welsh origin) she is 16 and lives with her grandmother. Life seems so ordinary and all she has to worry about is school and her grades. In one night her world is turned upside down when her grandmother who is a psychic tells her that she has to leave to a safe place or she will die. She tells Bronwen to run until she gets to a castle and she must ask for Felix Cavara who will be able to keep her safe. But what exactly is she running from? Felix is not exactly what she expected but can he and his friends keep her safe?
The suspense was killing me, especially with the question of why is this thing after Bronwen….. I liked the characters in the book not so much Felix as it took me a while to warm up to him. I felt he was mean for no reason but I guess being alive for that long can make even the nicest person mean. I also enjoyed seeing how the friendship between Bronwen and Felix grew, it was just soo endearing.
I liked Loki, he was just so sweet and even though he has been alive for so long his innocence about some of the things happening was just so cute. The ending was sort of how I expected it to go but also I didn’t want it to end that way (sounds silly right?). It really broke my heart and even to this day the book still lingers in my mind. I love the way the author ended the book , leaving the possibility of a sequel (which I hope might happen) was very happy to end this with no cliff hanger ending (thank goodness!).

I just finished reading this, and almost gave it a 3/3.5 star review, but I bumped it up to 4, purely because I loved the ending so much.
Felix is a fantastic character, and so full of...life. Pun intended ;D
Alistair and Loki were lovely characters that I would have liked to have seen more of, in fact I'd have liked a hell of a lot more book! Purely because I'm greedy for more of the cheeky banter between Felix and Bronwen, it was adorable and quick witted. Perfect dialogue!
As I said the ending was brilliant, though bitter sweet, I loved it because it's so very rare an author will end it in a realistic (as realistic as it gets with immortals, witches and hell hound witch hunters running around) manner. Part of me was expecting the curse to be lifted with her blood, and their immortality would be gone, but they would remain human, and get to live their lives out until old age and eventually natural death claims them. But that's just the romantic in me :D So when Felix died, although that was what the entire book had been directing me to, it was still somewhat heartbreaking, I was even sat ready to discover one last page, where in fourteen days the boys would wake and start life afresh, mortality intact... Normally I'd crack open another book as it's late and I have a full cup of tea steaming and a pile of biscuits ready for my next paper adventure, but after that short but beautiful book, I think I'll finish my tea and head to bed.

I won a copy of this fantastic novella from a librarything.com members give away. The blurb sounded good so I took a chance. I'm usually not that keen on novellas and tend to like my books to be at least 200 pages, but I'm so glad I took a chance on this one because as it turned out...I loved it to pieces.
It was a wonderful story. Engaging right from the start with an incredible cast of characters. Bronwen was an excellent main character, strong, smart with great voice. Half the time I wanted to punch Felix with his constant quips and annoying attitude, but he really does grow on. He matures as the story progresses and by the end of the book he was wonderful.
His friends Alistair and Loki are brilliant characters.
The writing is first class, beautifully touching and vivid. My only real qualm was that about half way through the novel you could tell how it was going to end, but that didn't really seem to matter as it was so well written. And made me cry.
A great book and look forward to seeing more from this author.

I just finished reading Evanescent, part of a 3-book boxed set by @gabriellalepore_books I found on Amazon. All three are stand-alone novels, and I chose to read this one first, since Amy Lee (lead singer of Evanescence) is one of my favorite female voices. Yeah, that's how my mind works; don't judge me.

Having read Lepore's works before, and like her ability to bring the fantasy worlds of witches and demons to life in modern times. She has a pleasant way of creating characters with their own unique personalities, and Lepore makes the reader enjoy spending the time with them. Her storylines are always smoothly paced, and I look forward to reading her books every time I see a new title. And to me, that's the highest compliment I can give.

I was debating If I should request and read Evanescent but I heard good things about her books especially from Benjamin and also there's magic. For me, Gabriella Lepore's books (Blackheath and Evanescent) are like children books or fairytales. Her book and writing style is like intended for younger readers. There's a once upon a time vibe going on. There wasn't a vivid description about the setting. Even the protagonist is so naive and I didn't like her but good thing there was a character development. However the three boys were entertaining and adorable especially Felix. Their jokes were surprisingly funny (because some books aren't). It was a fast paced book but it took me more than a week to finish reading because I lost interest. The ending was also unexpected especially for such a short book.
