The McLendon Family Saga Reading Order:
(1) The Heart of Falcon Ridge (2) A McLendon Christmas (3) Rock Star Cowboys (4) Rock Star Cowboys: The Honeymoon (5) The Hardest Goodbyes (6) Return to Falcon Ridge
A McLendon Christmas is book two in The McLendon Family Saga series by D.L. Roan.
In book one I completely fell in love with this family. These three men love their wife so much. A woman is lucky to even have one husband to love her like that but three of them! About a year and a half has passed since the ending of book one. The boys are now eight years old and four months ago Gabby gave birth to twins, Danielle Grace and Jonah Stephan. It’s almost Christmas and Gabby has her hands full. She is Mom to four children and wife to three men. Her husbands do everything they can to help her but her emotions are all over the place. She’s happy one day and sad the next. She doesn’t dare talk to her men about it since Grey has a tendency to over react to anything concerning her.
This book was the perfect epilogue to the first book. We see how their family has come together to include Daniel who stepped in as Gabby’s father figure and became part of their family. And of course, the McLendon’s own mom, Hazel, and her three husbands. So, when they all get together, it’s quite a crowd. And of course, nothing goes as planned.
You will get a good amount of sexy times but you will also get a few chuckles as this huge family celebrates Christmas. What stands out, though, is that this family is over flowing with love. I think that is why I love them so much. Everything they do is based on the love and respect they have for one another.
You definitely need to read this series in order. So if you haven’t yet, then start book one. Then, be sure to follow with this one. It’s sure to make you smile, perhaps sigh a time or two, and just make you happy. Now, I’m on to book three, Rock Star Cowboys, which will focus on the boys, Conner and Carson, all grown up. I can’t wait to get more of this wonderful family.
Who knew I’d take to polyandrous love 🥰 I’m strictly monogamous in real life but this trope in books might just be a new favorite of mine.
After reading book 1 in the series, The Heart of Falcon Ridge, I immediately checked out this novella. It’s a rare thing for me to read novellas, but I'll consider it if it's part of a series and if it follows the same couple from the previous book(s). I also never read holiday books. I know that's weird but I just don't gravitate to those books--like ever. Anywho, I didn't even try a sample of this one--which is what I normally do before purchasing any book--I just one-clicked this baby. What does all this mean? Long story not short, these characters had a strong pull on me! I wanted to spend more time with them! Seriously, these cowboys are hard to resist. They're so lovable<3 I'm damn glad I didn't skip this book because it was perfect and it had what I feel was missing in book 1--more depth. The novella made all the difference and it completely endeared me to this...um, unconventional family. It sealed the deal for me. I think the issue in book 1 was that their relationship felt rushed. I also wasn't blown away by the HEA. But this novella felt more like an extended epilogue and it was everything I needed! I could have done without some of the side character stories, but I got enough of my sweet cowboys and their girl, Gabby, to fully satisfy me. It was all the feels! Lesson learned--never underestimate a novella's emotional punch.
Although this one doesn't have the suspense like the first book we can see the McLendon family grow. Gabby (formerly known as Claira) has given birth to twins. She is very much in love with her three husbands and they are with her. Lately Gabby has been feeling overly tired and sad. The three brothers, especially Grey worry about her but don't know what to do as Gabby doesn't even know what is wrong with her. I loved seeing Grey completely freak out in the flashback scene where Gabby is in the process of giving birth to the twins. He really does flip out. It was hilarious. He isn't much better as he can't help Gabby. He worries more so than the others that it became mostly hilarious to me. I really enjoyed seeing more of the McLendon family. This family is very close and care so much for each other that it really is lovely to see. We do find out what is wrong with Gabby at the end and I am so happy for them but also kind of concerned about Grey. Better pull out the horse tranquilizer again.
A McLendon Christmas was so incredibly fun to write! I am irrevocably in love with the McLendon family and I can't wait to share more of their stories with you. Thank you so much for loving them, too! As always I wish you happy, sexy reading.
DL Roan has fast become one of my favourite go-to authors, so it was a no-brainer when I was asked to be part of her beta team for this awesome novella. I absolutely loved it and you are going to too.
Second Christmas may be a novella but it's packed with so much and then some, but then the author is DL Roan. It has... Steamy passion with enough heat to melt the snow right off the front cover. Damn, it's HOT!! Humour to make your sides ache, make you cry with laughter. I'm still laughing at one of the scenes involving Grey. (You'll know it when you read it, trust me) Heart-felt emotion to tear at your heart strings and make you cry all over again. I don't mind telling you that I cried like a baby. Loved it.
I just adore the McLendon men (Grey is still my favourite *swoons*) and I have loved revisiting this wonderful family. I've swooned, laughed, cried and swooned again along with those men as they get ready to celebrate Christmas with their expanding family.
I can't wait for the next installment in, what is becoming, an awesome series and one of my favourites.
If you're a fan of the menage genre, virile, alpha-male cowboys and can stand the heat then add Second Christmas to your TBR list now, you won't regret it, but make sure you have read Second Chances first!
I was lucky enough to be a beta reader for this novella. What an amazing step back into one of my favorite story families. You must read Second Chances before reading this novella, but believe me... they are both worth it.
This novella is full of surprises, laughs, and family.
3 still hot but predictable stars Well yes, I got attached to this crowded matrimony, I really wanted to know how they would progress!
There really is no plot this time, I'll be honest. The sexy scenes are still sexy, the big family is still fantastic even if blatantly too perfect to ring true, I take a modicum of pleasure in it anyway, considering how completely fucked up is my experience with families, the brothers are still delicious and completely dedicated. Nothing really happens, just a lot of family events.
Such little time have passed since they got married to Gabby and we're already catapulted in the exhausting life of newborn twin babies parents. I would have liked to see more of the path leading there instead of some few flashbacks here and there, we didn't even get a to see the damn wedding, but I'll take it. Well, the way these three men helped their woman at the end of the pregnancy and after the birth was probably the most touching element for me. To a new mom this kind of practical support to manage house and children (Gabby is suddenly a mother of four now, let's not forget it) is more important than any fantastic fuck, someone has to say it. I'm talking about something life-saving, at least in my own experience. I appreciated also how post-partum depression was mentioned and presented in this context, even if it wasn't really an element. I really liked how the spiked libido during the first pregnancy period is mentioned and how, generally, Gabby's emotional rollercoaster situation after having her babies was portrayed. And I really appreciated how Gabby dealt with Grey deciding things over her body without consulting her.
What tired me was, once again, the over the top reactions of Grey. Yes, the scene at the hospital during the delivery was hilarious and so well staged, but like one of his brothers mentioned, he really has to stop flying off the handle all the time and making it about HIM. He's mild in his overbearingly protective alpha characterization compared to so many others, he does apologise, it still bored me after a while. Isn't he supposed to be the oldest brother? As usual, it's up to Mason to fix all volatile/delicate situations. Sigh. Also, considering how good this author is in reality details, I was a bit puzzled when we really didn't get to witness the delivery, it was like we were taken away with Grey...how come? After the way the previous wife had died, it was supposed to be a pivotal moment in everyone's life...but no, totally fade to black. I'm sorry, I don't get it. It would have certainly raised the feels level to a million. Did she get a c-section for real or was it a natural delivery? That would have been also very important to gauge her physical condition after the birth and her recovery time, eventual lactation problems etc, again the author glissed on it, mentioning other health problems post-portum instead. Gabby doesn't even mention having a scar on her body now, she does point out stretchmarks though...I was left more than puzzled. And again, the author favoured Matt and Grey over Mason. The only sex scene he has ALONE with Gabby, right at the beginning of the book, starts with a great build-up where all the pent-up desire of both is truly palpable, so much so that the action begins in the lift of a hotel already, I was expecting damn fireworks, but when they're finally in bed together, and about to spend a week-end alone, bam, fade to black, no decription of the actual deeds. In later chapters she said she still hurt after their week-end and that's it. Why, author, why? (picture here a deep scowl).
Apart from all these domesticity fragments, we get a glimpse of all the other characters as well. Some dialogues made little sense if one hasn't read another book about secondary characters, I won't fall for the trap, the important thing was a daughter-father reunion and that much I got. Also, a gay couple is revealed to the characters and the readers alike. Not much of a shock, but I didn't feel close enough to those characters in the previous book already, despite their role in protecting and keeping Gabby safe when she was on the run, what is this adding to the story? Once again, I think it's a matter of too many threads to deal with and none is treated with sufficient depth. This time the tear-generator factors were even more in my opinion. I would have preferred some shreads of story instead.
I am fond of this foursome, glad to see Gabby has grown in her womanhood, but the next two books are about the oldest twins and I don't really care for that direction and jump in the future.

Do you love your Cowboys? Do you love them when they are all hot and sexy? Do you love them when they are sweet and romantic? Do you love them when the hot and sexy, sweet and romantic cowboy has brothers? (you read that right they come in multiples)
Have you met the McLendon brothers? Grey, Mason and Matt are three gorgeous brothers, inside and out – I mean really, could they get any more perfect? Have you read Second Chances by DL Roan, because if you have, you would know just how perfect I am talking about. If you haven’t – what the heck are you waiting for? Here, let me help you with the Amazon Link… just click here... you know you want too!
Ok so, let’s assume that you have met the McLendon’s, so you know right that they love their woman… yep woman, one woman… she is the right amount of sass and sweet to keep these boys in line. Welcome to DL Roan’s little patch of ménage. This epilogue is the picture perfect end to the McLendon’s story from Second Chances. DL Roan has given us that happily ever after as a gift, the gift that gives you a little bit more of the story and the characters than the standard epilogue offers. A gift in the form of an Epilogue Novella perfectly timed for this festive season.
See what Grey, Mason, Matt, Gabby, the twins and the ever loving mother McLendon, Hazel and her handful of older McLendons have been up to since the end of Second Chances. Here you will find surprises, laughter, tears and a realism that is often lost in the art of erotic storytelling.
DL creates an environment and relationships that have you laughing, crying and maybe squirming in your seat a little (I mean those cowboys are hot….ok) along with the characters.
This is ultimately a fun and happy story, with some drama thrown in for good measure. We are reintroduced to some of the great secondary characters from Second Chances, and you may even see a snippet of life for our favourites from Second Nature, and the seed is planted for some possible spin off characters…
Grab your copy… and have yourself a very merry Second Christmas with the McLendon’s.
This rates as a 4 ½ star read, because well… it was just too short… which also left me asking questions, wanting more and…. Ehhhh just a bit frustrated… if you know what I mean ;)
4.0 RATING-I was happy to see the author was releasing an extended epilogue to Second Chances which I really enjoyed. If you haven't read Second Chances, it should be read before reading Second Christmas. Both stories are based on the same characters and feature a MFMM menage (three brothers and a woman).
After I read Second Chances, I had a bit of a soft spot for one paticular brother, Grey. Now I have a full-blow crush. His antics in the hospital had me laughing out loud and I just loved him to pieces. I will say that Second Chances focuses a lot on family life and struggles and isn't just sex, sex, sex. It's a continuation of a story and although it has some steamy bits, it's not just smut.
For readers that haven't read Second Nature which is the second book in the When Seconds Count series, expect some spoilers. If you have no plans on reading Second Nature or don't mind spoilers, then it shouldn't be a big deal. For readers that do plan to read Second Nature, I'd recommend reading that before Second Christmas. I've read all three books in the series and enjoyed them all. Second Nature is different than Second Chances, it's a M/F romance, not menage.
Suggested Reading Order for readers that want to read this series:
1. Second Chances 2. Second Nature 2.5 Second Christmas
D.L Roan is one of those author's that I enjoy and I don't think enough of my GR friends are familiar with her work. I noticed she has another book out, Blindfold Fantasy, and I'm looking forward to reading that one soon. For readers that like steamy romances, I'd recommend giving these books a chance. Even those that don't read menage, can read Second Nature. It's a solid (and steamy!) read.

I found this book by total fluke in one of the many facebook groups that I’m in. To be honest, I just wanted a Christmas type book to read, and even with the disclaimer that I should read the other books first, I passed that up and just read it without reading the other books. And I do have to say, that after reading this book, it made me go and 1 click the other books in the series! So be warned that you will be sucked into the world Ms. Roan has created! This is the first book by Ms. Roan that I have read and she just dragged me into the world she had created and I can’t get enough of it! I felt like she has a very smooth writing style that was able to draw me in and keep me until the story was done. Even after it was done, I didn’t want the story to end. Now, to be honest, I was a bit confused about everything going on because I hadn’t read the other books, but was I so lost that I couldn’t follow along with the story? Nope, I was still able to read and enjoy it! Overall, I would say that if you haven’t read this series yet by Ms. Roan, then you should really check this one out!

This is book two of the McLendon Family Saga and it's a great novella that lets us get caught up with Gabby, Matt, Mason and Grey as they celebrate Christmas with their newest additions to the family. We find the McLendon's have settled into a happy, active and very sexually hot marriage.
Gabby is more in love than ever with her three hot and handsome husbands and is trying to figure out how to get enough sleep, make sure Con and Car don't feel neglected because of the birth of Dani and Jonah all while trying to recapture the before pregnancy love making she the guys enjoy so very much.
Ms. Roan did an excellent job of bringing me into this novella from the first chapter and I was sucked right back into the McLendon world. I loved reading this novella because I really enjoy seeing what happens to characters of my favorite books as time passes.
And getting some of the hottest M/F/M/M sex once again. Ms. Roan definitely didn't disappoint us on this front that's for sure!
If you're like me, you'll pick this novella up and won't put it down until you've read the last page!
Second Christmas: A Second Chances Epilogue (ebook) by D.L. Roan was an enjoyable read and visit back to a family I have fond memories of. Unfortunately the novella wasn't what I expected. I really missed the snarky humor of the female lead, and felt that Grey’s behavior was just way too worrisome (even knowing why). I actually think that Grey’s behavior might have been a big reason for my feelings towards the story.
I wanted more interaction between the heroine and the males in her life, more of an insight into their life. I guessed early on what the malaise was that effected our heroine, and was a bit surprised that she would be in this situation – thought they were all smarter.
I think this cast of characters has so much potential, but this novella just missed the mark for me.
I Loved Second Chances and those 3 Hot, Sexy McLendon brothers! And this Perfect Christmas Epilogue - opened up that special spot in my heart where the whole extended family resides and made room for the newest members! Fell in Love with each of them all over again! And the intervention of poor Grey - Just Laugh out Loud funny!
Thank You D.L. Roan - this far exceeds any Christmas wish I could have asked for!!
Love how Hazel voices what we were all thinking!!! XO
"Honey, having three husbands can be a wonderful thing. But some days, it's three times the pain in the ass as having one."
The story of the McClendon family is so sweet and funny that I've even wished they could be real and I could come visit them. Great story by D.L. Roan. The Christmas story brought back Grey, Matt and Mason along with Gabby and the twins along with the new twins Dani, and Jonah. The story was filled with love and shenanigans. I laughed hard when the brothers had to tranquilizer Grey when Gabby was having the twins. Such a great story. Looking forward to the next story about the twins Con and Car all grown up.
Loved seeing the group again...three sexy cowboys, their gorgeous wife, sweet kids and friends! Get a look at what's been happening at the ranch! Loved how they each had their alone time with their wife, sweet and sexy! I love the interaction between this group, can't wait to see what happens next! Its a definite must read! Find out what you've been missing and a special surprise at the end, it will definitely be a Merry Christmas for all!!
Author D.L. ROAN never disappoints. I love her books and it was great to visit the McLendon Family you have 3 Hot, Sexy Cowboys and sweet Tabby, raising their children, 8 yr old twins Con and Car the the new babies, Its a time for Family to come together and celebrate, but they all get and even greater gift none were expecting. I love this story.
A bundle of surprises this Christmas for the McLendon family!!! Second Christmas wraps up the McLendon brothers' romance with their wife Gabby. The story flows with how the family gets on in life...there will be laughter, some tears are shed but the whole novel is gift-wrapped in a great big bow of love and compassion!!!Lots of children are added to this "special" family filling it with soo much happiness...a warm novel for the holiday season which concludes this menage romance.
5 Candi kisses and shenanigans After falling in love with the characters in the first book in this series, I went straight to book 2. It did not disappoint, as a matter of fact it lead me to the next book I wanted to read. Ms. Roan has great writing style that flows and takes you on some highs and lows, you will be laughing one minute and crying the next. I kinda like not being able to predict what will happen before it does. Well done, again...
It was so great to touch base with the McLendon brothers again & see what was happening in everyone's lives. This novella is just as off the charts hot as the original novel was, as well as laugh out loud funny, & there were even one or two ugly cry scenes.
You should read both Second Chances & Second Nature before reading this novella as there are characters from both books mentioned.
I am not sure that I have laughed so much at one person in a book. Having to use a horse tranquilizer on your brother so your wife can deliver twins because he is freaking out is just one of the parts that I couldn't stop laughing at. I won't give away any more spoilers, but it is hilarious.
Totally love this series. I Love how family come together to help one another out, you just can't help but fall on love with each character. I would of really loved to hear more of Cade and Daniel's story, but no. But thats ok this series is definitely worth the 5 stars rating given.
Read "Surviving Redemption" first as this book has some spoilers! That said, I loved this one as much as I loved the last. Catching up with the McLendon family is quickly becoming one of my favorite ways to pass the time. Thanks again D.L. Roan for another great read.
Second Christmas is a wonderful continuation of Second Chances. D.L. does an amazing job pulling you into her story and keeping you there. You will cry, you will definitely laugh, and undoubtedly swoon over these sexy hot cowboys;) Bravo, D!
I loved this book, wish there was more of it! I've read it several times and could read it again. I hope that there's another one coming out to keep the story going. Grey's a sight with the birthing OMG!!! I love that part!
This book was equally good, with the birth of twins-a girl and a boy. The main characters are catching up with one another, although their lives are busier than ever with feelings, keeping up with Carson and Conner, twins now 8. Love and family is a strong theme
