Every girl worries from time to time. Maybe it's an argument with a friend, or a big test, or a performance in front of a crowd. Maybe it's her body. Maybe it's even something fun, like a slumber party or overnight camp -- or something really big, like moving away or her parents' divorce. For many girls, even small worries can take on a life of their own and get in the way of enjoying life. But this book will help take charge over your worries. You'll learn tried-and-true ways to overcome fears and create a sense of calm. You'll take quizzes and find out about yourself and what concerns you, and you'll read advice from real girls who found ways to deal with their own worries. The book is packed with proven techniques for handling worry and creating confidence -- freeing you to be the girl you're meant to be.
I was really impressed with this book. I’ve heard good things about the AG books, but hadn’t read them. My 10 year old daughter really liked this book too.
I think this little guide is a great start for kids (it's geared for girls which I love so it can be a little more focused for them specifically) to address any worries. I take the attitude of, IF a kid has anxiety or is worried, this book will not only make them feel better (feel heard, feel seen, feel not alone) but it will also give them advice, suggestions, and tips on how to address their fears. The book gives many examples of common fears a kid might have and then different ways to face the fear. It includes kids' accounts (in a sentence or two) of what they did to face their fears and how they fared. I think reading this book would give a kid who worries confidence. Yes, there are things we fear. Yes, there are ways to rid the fear. Yes, there are times fear will stay but we do the thing anyway. Yes, most of the time when we overcome the fear, we have a ton of fun. Yes, sometimes when we overcome a fear, we might miss the mark or make a mistake. And yes - it is so not the end of the world WHEN we do that. I wonder how a little book like this might have helped me as a little girl navigating the world. It would have been useful!
Sign of the times, I guess. If parents are overstuffing their children's lives and if the state raises higher and higher expectations for student performance, I suppose that would create quite a lot of stress in first world kids. Yes, this book doesn't really deal too much with the stress of not having basic needs met like food, shelter, or clothing, but it does start to dip its pinky toe into not having a responsible caregiver to protect you. Just a little, though. Still, it's never a bad idea to give someone a few tools on how to chill.
Now a days kids have a lot of stress right now. Schools are less safe, divorce is more common, the news is scary, and just the every day things going on in your life. Girls can’t help but worry sometimes. This book teaches kids how to tackle problems step by step and get out of stressful situations if possible. I would really recommend this book.
No reason not to like this one. It's really needed now-a-days as kids have so many more things on their minds. And once again, it can transcend all ages. I like the tactics talked about and I love how it's all about building confidence. Good reminders and ways things are broken down.
