Jasmine is a 19 year college student who dreams of becoming a dancer. Those dreams are cut short however, when she is date raped and impregnated by her boss at his company Christmas party. Jasmine faces difficult decisions - should she keep the baby or have an abortion? Should she continue with school or move back to New Jersey to be with her mother? Should she give her baby up for adoption? Jasmine makes hard calls all while trying to remain level headed.

This book is written for hi/lo readers and attempts to tackle some pretty tough issues, albeit unsuccessfully. Then ending I found to be completely unrealistic. Jasmine's daughter Orchid was living with an amazing family for a whole year before she tried to get her back. Orchid had bonded with the Martins and was clearly traumatized when she was removed back into Jasmine's care. This tragic situation was dealt with nothing more than an "oh well, that's life" attitude. Jasmine also didn't seem to emotionally deal with any of the fall out from the rape. Over all the story is interesting enough to keep reader's attention, but it is not particularly well written.

Recommended as optional for high school students in need of hi/lo books.
