Suzanne Thurston spends all her free time working on her video game. This isn't an ordinary game; instead of using a normal controller, Suzanne designs the Total Immersion Interface, a virtual reality helmet that puts the player right in the game. Now Suzanne's ready to test the game out, along with her two best friends, Brit and Mikayla. At first everything seems to go right as they fight monsters and take on a quest from King Ramses. But Suzanne's about to learn that Io isn't exactly how she programmed it.
Eye-catching. Interesting premise, so I brought it home for my video-game playing college son. He couldn't suspend disbelief and so dnf'd. I'm not the target audience and so gave up myself when it got nerdy.
However, it's engagingly written and could be great for the right audience. I bet that younger teens, or children, who aren't so cynical and just want a fun read with characters that do what they wish they could do, would like it better.
I randomly picked this one off the shelf at the library because it looked kinda cool - that and the whole series was just sitting there, waiting for me. I was really happy with it! It read a lot like a children's book more than a YA book, but the plot was cohesive and imaginative. I'm excited to pick up more of the series and see if I continue to like it. The only downside I had with this book was that the "plot twist" was advertised both on the Goodreads description and the back of the book. Seriously, guys, why do authors do that?!
I enjoyed reading the first book of the Queens of Cyberspace series. I love the premise of the book and the strong female characters. I thought that the plot was interesting and definitely gained momentum towards the end, leaving you wanting to read the next book in the series. I recommend this book to students who are interested in cyberspace and enjoy action books. So don't wait, press start!
This was fun! It was not the most well-written book I've ever read, but I think it could really appeal to the teens/tweens looking for a female driven adventure without a romance.
