Brief text and large color photographs introduce young readers to physical features of squirrels from claws to tail. The large photos are the star of this book, which might make a nice edition to squirrel storytime. Readers will want to know more than the very brief text tells them.

Very simple introduction for the youngest reader to squirrels. Each page lists a characteristic of squirrels and ends with the question of have you seen a squirrel? This allows for a great discussion of a particular animal. The book also has after the narrative a page that displays four pictures that highlight particular features of this anima. The glossary not only defines a word but also has a picture to help clarify the word. There is also an index if the reader wants to go back to a particular topic. Abdo kids has a website the reader can access that offers crafts, games and vidoes. Great first book on squirrels for early childhood and beginning readers.
