A day celebrating the beauty of God's handiwork turns into a father's worst nightmare as the sun sets on his only son, Jaryd Atadero, lost in the Colorado Mountains. A highly publicized search breaks into a national story as reports surfaced concerning Jaryd's whereabouts. Did Jaryd fall prey to a territorial mountain lion? Was he a victim of the elements? Did someone take Jaryd off the mountain? Is Jaryd alive, or did he become the victim of a notorious serial killer? The second edition includes new theories and thoughts provided by experts in the field of criminal investigation. When the Son Sets-The Jaryd Atadero Story is the personal account of a father's painful search to discover the truth.
The man (author) lost his child. He has been through a living hell that none of us would want to ever experience. It is a gripping and extremely upsetting story. The authorities almost seemed to be working against the family when trying to find their little boy, Jaryd. I hope law enforcement learned a lot from this case and are able to avoid the numerous and costly pitfalls associated with how they attempted to find Jaryd. The book is long and a drawn out, but the story is very compelling.
I don't know why I hadn't known about this little boy and his disappearance until a couple days ago and found the book telling the events of what happened and the unanswered questions. I felt the fathers pain and cried with him as he told the story. I would never want to know the depths of that pain. Where his remains were found is unexplainable and I can't draw a conclusion or a guess. The fathers perseverance and his love for his son will save lives. Politics should never be a part of attempting to find the missing. Would Jaryd have been found the first day if there wasn't a power struggle? No one will never know. If Jaryd were my son I'd of opened the gates of hell and brought down the Angels from heaven to find him just as his father did. The father kept himself as composed as he could because I'm sure had he proceeded with rage the help he needed would have left. There truly isn't any "closure" and time heals nothing. The fortunate ones learn a new way to live with the pain of losing their child a gift from God. The loss of Jaryd "Americas Child" is heart breaking and upon learning his story I will remember him always. Open heart to all, Mary
I wished I could give this book more than 5 stars! Even then I just don't think there are that many stars possible to give this book! This book... this book.... the story... the background, so hard to really put into words what I want to say. For one, I can't EVER, EVER imagine as a parent myself the hurt the grief the emotions that a parent would go through. The strength that this author shows in this book is more than I could ever imagine! This is a situation that you don't want to believe really happens. A story you never want to hear of your own. But when or if it does, what is one to do? How do you carry on? This book, this story... AMAZING!!!
