A powerful look at how the subconcious mind works and how one can harness the power that each of us has available in one of nature's most intricate, least understood, and powerful devices... the human brain.
The book comes from the perspective of a doctor who spent many years studying the phenomenons of hypnosis and psychology and is his summary of the field. It's not too New Agey to appreciate and doesn't contradict Scripture (if you are concerned about that)... though it probably will give most Fundamentalist Christians (or Muslims or Jews) something to really ponder about how God made us. It also begs the question for a Christian (or Muslim or Jew) how we might we change our lives and habits in light of the knowledge that the subconcious mind is a huge influencing force in our daily thoughts, actions and emotions?
If there is a second part to our mind that is constantly processing, dreaming, and feeling without our conscious effort, but it can be influenced itself by what our conscious mind feeds it... then shouldn't we spend some time thinking about how we ought to feed our subconcious? As a Christian I find that since my daily actions are an output of the subconscious, and the input of the subconscious is the active part of the mind (the conscious) then my task is to do as Scripture says (Phi 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. )... i.e. meditate on the Good things of God and of Creation and as a result my actions will follow as a result of the way God built me.
I'm struck more and more by the verse in the Psamls in which David says: "I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well."
But the book itself is well written, clear and enjoyable to read. It has many original and fresh ideas... though some will certainly challenge your worldview and philosophical understandings...which is why I liked it so much :-)
This book is really great one.. especially for those who doesn't have much knowledge about subconscious mind and is much more inclined to science and not find spirituality and others stuffs relevant...
