She knew they existed. But now the truth is more terrifying than she realized.

As she comes face-to-face with a vengeful, but sexy and intoxicating vampire that proves she was right all along, she realizes that there's a fine line between myth and reality.
Nicolas has no patience for meddling and annoying mortals. After realizing that Anna just might have the answers he's been searching for, Nick decides to use Anna for his own personal gain, putting her fragile life on the line. However, as her calming and irresistible presence overcomes him, Nick is forced to choose between revenge for the past and allowing Anna to be the light in his darkness. But can he find a way to have both?
Mallory Crowe has lived in Michigan her whole life and has been in love with romance ever since she'd skip to the end of every novel, just to make sure the hero and heroine survived and ended up together. She lives with her husband and three dogs. When she's not writing, she's spending too much time in front of the TV, hiking, or working with various animal rescues.
This just didn't grip me. The writing was okay and the characters a bit bland, especially Anna. A bit of mystery, romance and action all thrown in but it just didn't gelled together. Hope the next book about Marcus will be better.
Anna knows vampires exist she saw one kill her best friends father Ray fifteen years ago and ever since then she's been trying to find her best friend Evie and her own father Charles who both disappeared that night. She joins a group of vampire hunters called Stakes, members are there for different reasons some want to kill vampires while others want to become one but Anna wants information, she needs to know what happen to Evie and Charles in order for her to be able to move on with her own life. Getting nowhere on her own Anna is aided by the mysterious Mr X and soon finds Nicolas a real vampire. Most of the reviews for this book are very good and the main reason I kept reading but this book just didn't grab or hold me at all, I had no problem putting it down which is unusual for me, normally it's with great reluctance that I close my kindle once I've started a book. The story and the characters were ok although I struggled at times with Anna. At the end of the book if you sign up to the authors new releases mailing list then you get an exclusive free bonus prologue showing what really happened to Anna and Evie fifteen years before 'Finding Fire'
There was a lot that bothered me in this book and I won’t sugarcoat it so let’s just jump right in. I hate that Aleksander played the part of a martyr when he stole a title that wasn’t his. Everyone turned on Nicolas when he had done nothing wrong. They took his legacy, his palace, his right to rule. They tried to kill him, they didn’t even give him the benefit of the doubt that he’d be able to see his father was unfit to rule so he could take over. No one believed in him, no one trusted him, no one gave him a chance, no one tried to explain to him what was happening behind his back. They just overthrew their king, threw his son/heir out, left him to fend for himself, and banned everyone from helping him. They’re all a bunch of hypocrites and idiots. I was hoping Nicolas would just kill Aleksander and his dimwit queen. I wanted him to pay for what he did and for Nicolas to take back what was rightfully his.
Aleksander was an asshole who would turn on anyone if it benefited him or threatened his wife. He had no shame in saying he’d kill Anna in a heartbeat if it put his wife in trouble and yet Nicolas had a similar choice to make but quickly made one where he didn’t have to resort to killing Aleksander or the queen even though it was much easier than killing the traitor. Instead of being selfish, he chose a way where the new “king” and “queen” were safe, but took longer to get to Anna when she could have died. He’s more humane and compassionate than that fake martyr and joke of a king.
Anna was a great character until they ended up in the castle and then she just went straight downhill from there. She judged Nicolas, took the queen’s and Aleksander’s side (not knowing he had no problem killing her if necessary), embraces his protection as if she was right at home even though she knew that everyone in that castle betrayed Nicolas in the past, got mad at him for not being in love with her when they’d never talked about feelings, gave no hint that she felt more for him than just sexual, and didn’t even know how exactly how SHE felt about him so how was he supposed to know how he felt about her?
Nicolas was the only person I truly liked in the end. Sure, his motive in the beginning wasn’t something to be proud of but that changed very quickly and he showed how he felt by keeping her protected far longer than when he entertained the thought that she was disposable. He begged her to change her mind before they got to their destination, his priority was to make sure she was safe no matter how he conned her with his mind control, he put her first and she threw it in his face.
Storyline was promising, the romance I loved between these two, although short, it was headed in the right direction until the vampire clan and then that whole thing ruined the book for me. I won’t be reading this again as everyone pissed me off except Nicolas, who was the only person I cared about in the end. Everyone else deserved to die or be punished for what they did, Anna should have been more loyal to Nicolas and had to redeem herself, and Nicolas should have taken back what was his. Wishful thinking, but these are the only things that would have placated me in this book. Not too excited to read the rest of this series but will force myself through it.
Mallory is a girl constantly looking over her shoulder. She is scared that a man she hopes is dead may not be, and lives in constant fear that one day he will show up on her doorstep and try to finish the job of killing her that he started 15 years before.
While wishing for one man to be dead, she hopes her best friend is actually alive. She fears that a vampire has killed her friend. Paranormal creatures are still believed to be myths, so who can she talk to about this?
She joins a group of like-minded individuals all searching for vampires. A strange phone call one night puts her straight into the path of vampire Nicolas.
Upon their initial meeting, neither can decide if the other is useful or should be killed. Mallory wants answers to hopefully put her fears to rest, and Nicolas is seeking revenge.
The interactions between these two is intense and sometimes had me laughing. Loved the storytelling and was surprised with the end. Looking forward to the next book!
In the first book of Bad Boys of the Underground, Finding Fire, we meet, human Anna. Desperate to find out what happened to her bff and father fifteen years earlier she entangles and endangers herself with vampire, Nicolas. An ok read, started well but continued quite blandly. A little intrigue and suspense, with a couple of sex scenes but nothing that gripped the imagination or likened you to the characters. Disappointed really but it was free. 2.5 stars.
I haven't read a paranormal romance in ages. It was similar to a lot I've read previous, but had a nice twist to the end. Although enjoyable, I felt it was a bit flat and if it weren't for wanting to know what happened I may have out it down at around 50%. felt like it took forever to reach there, but after that it picked up.
enjoyable. not sure if I'll read the other though.
>Book Review – Finding Fire >I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 1st in the Bad Boys of the Underworld series and ends in an HEA. Anna witnessed what she thinks is a vampire attack as a child. Her BFF and father have been missing ever since. Anna joins a vampire club as an adult, but in this story, vampires are not known to be real. Anna receives a tip as to where a vampire is living and goes to investigate. >Nicholas is the vampire Anna finds. He wants to use her for his own revenge, but falls for her instead. Both Nicholas and Anna want to find the vampire king, Alexsander for different reasons. What Anna and Nicolas both believe happened in the past is skewed. >The story gets exciting as forces are fighting against Nicholas and Anna. There is some humor as Anna attempts to protect Nicholas. One of the traitors is found and the end has an interesting twist. This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving the book 5 stars. The story is fast paced and romantic.
When Abby was younger two people were taken from her by vampires. Her best friend and her father. In order for her life to ever be a semblance of normal she has to know if that same vampire killed them or if he simply turned them. For her friend she only had the highest of hopes. Now she is chasing a vampire and Mr. X, whoever he is drops her at the doorstep of one who is bend on revenge of the same vampire who took the two people all those years before. Could he really help her put to rest all that has haunted her for 15 years?
This is a really good book. I enjoyed the mystery of who Mr. X is and who really wanted the king dead. The fact that there is a little romance thrown in and a cross-country travel helped a bit as well. Definitely worth a read.
The bad: Major plot holes. Our cute little h decides she is going to meet the big bad vamp and ask him some questions. Exactly how is that going to work?
The good: There were a few times that I started to roll my eyes at the obvious direction the story was going only to have it switch things around and really surprise me!
The start of the book takes some patience to get through but if you persist (and you can ignore the plot holes), it is a pretty good read.
The beginning was slow and I kept getting confused about if Charles was her father or someone else. Anna is trying to find out what happened to her abusive father and her best friend. She saw a vampire kill her friend’s father years ago, and has been afraid ever since. She gets a break and finds a vampire, Nicolas. They ban together to hunt down the one that she suspects killed her friend. We find out a lot about vampires and the mystery of what happened all those years ago.
I choose this rating because I liked the characters. She was so introverted that I thought she was endearing however he past issues made it hard to see whAt was in front of her with Nicholas. Nicolas was a hard character because there was no emotions from him it was only intention during most of the story that lead us to see what was going on. The plot was good and Evie was a given because stories wouldn't be good without surprises.
I loved this book! This is the first book in Mallory Crowe's Bad Boys of the Underworld. I had a hard time putting this book down once I started reading it. I was impressed with the courage of the female lead Anna. I fell in love with the male lead Nicholas who is a vampire. There are some twists in here and a lot of suspense. This is a standalone book. I am looking forward to reading the next in this series. Great job Mallory!
Finding Fire: Paranormal Romance (Bad Boys of The Underworld Book 1)
The love story of Ann and Nicolas. Nicolas is a vampire prince and Ann is a human. Together they are trying to get to the king of the Vampire. She want to known if her father and best friend are vampire. He want to kill him because he kill his father. Will they get what they want? The begins is slow but it pick up in the end.
Holy crap! This book was steamy and I approve!! The chemistry was off the charts between the characters and was an enjoyable read. However, there are still a lot of unanswered questions so I feel that the ending was quite abrupt. I'm very interested in the world, especially now that it is a little more fleshed out. I'm looking forward to reading the next in the series!
Nicholas is found by Annabelle from the Stakes group. Who are they? A vampire and a woman who saw a vampire years ago, searching for closure. Is her monster of a father still alive? What happened to her BF?
This was a cool story, I imagined myself as the character hunting down vampires because they don't exist right? *grins* The fact that she braves it and goes where she should not was insane, yet intriguing, clearly she was not worried he was there or may be watching her?
The interaction between both characters is so good, and clearly, he has no time for humans but the sexual chemistry is simply too high to deny.
DNF 3%... I mean, I didn't come into this expecting anything spectacular, but the stilted prose and choppy sentence structure / paragraphs made reading boring.
