San Francisco Homicide Inspector Rebecca Mayfield has vowed to have nothing more to do with mystery man Richie Amalfi, but when he tells her about the strange deaths of clients of a local psychic medium, her decision changes. Rebecca has always been intrigued by the paranormal and, despite her logical and practical nature, she can't resist looking into the deaths.

A handsome medium, a tormented ghost, and the FBI lurking around because of their interest in Richie and some stolen ancient artifacts, show Rebecca that the dead don't always stay dead and buried. And her emotions can't be buried, no matter how hard she might try. But following both just might lead Rebecca straight to the Great Beyond ... permanently.

Three O'Clock Séance
The Rebecca Mayfield Mysteries, Book 3
By: Joanne Pence
Narrated by: Kristi Burns
This is an audible book I won and the review is voluntary. I am so glad I won because this book was fantastic! There were many layers to this mystery. There is a psychic in the story and the whole time it's hard to decide to decide if he is a fraud. Just when I am convinced one way then something happens then I change my mind! Ugh! Then there are so many other things going on I don't want to say anything, I don't want to give away any spoilers. I totally enjoyed it! Great characters, unpredictable situations and plot, good clues (after I look back), and wonderful world building!
The narration was great too. This was a great prize to win!

A book by Joanne Pence is always entertaining and this one is no different. Rebecca Mayfield is researching deaths of elderly persons who at one time were wealthy but died a pauper. Richie brought the case to her as his Mother is going to seances and he is worried about her. Rebecca has always been curious about the paranormal. The FBI and the state liquor board are both interested in what Richie is doing. The FBI want Rebecca to report on Richie's life. Rebecca refuses. She is looking for answers as she doesn't believe Richie is guilty. I highly recommend this book and now reading the next book.

A psychic who believes, followers who believe, and one detective that doesn't. Murder isn't far behind. Mayfield must prove that deaths attributed to natural causes are really the result of an exotic poison. Pence leads you to the obvious killer and than spins you in another direction. No foul language or dirty sex, just a touch of romance. I was gifted this from the author.

This is a short cozy mystery story. It's something you can relax with as there's danger but nothing high octane. And there's a blooming romance as we get the thoughts of the two characters that are attracted to each other. A nice mystery story to relax by the fire with.

Fog fest

3pm is a book shrouded in fog whether in SF's fog bowl known as the Sunset District and Noregia Street dogs highway to the sleepy hamlet of Half Moon Bay. Fog plays hide and seek. Only the brave go into the mist - proceed with caution especially with things that go bump especially in matters of the heart.

Three O’clock Seance is a fun, entertaining murder mystery with a cop, a spiritualist, and a cleaner (the kind that fixes legal and embarrassing personal situations for those who can afford his services).

Suitable for most audiences. Contains mild sexual content.

I enjoyed the narrator of the audiobook and think she did a good job with the book.

Only Gets Better

I'm truly glad that I stumbled upon this series. The writing is really good, the characters interesting, storyline believable and has just the perfect amount of intriguing twists. Now, on to the fourth book. BTW I absolutely adore Spike!

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

While relaxing at home, Rebecca gets a visit from Richie, who insists that there is a problem that requires her attention and it requires that she accompany him to a Seance conducted by Sandor Geller (a.k.a Sandy). Richie feels that there is something fishy about Sandy's seances, but can't prove it.

Over the last few years, there have been several deaths among Sandy's followers that, although they appear to be natural causes, Richie is not so sure. The people who have died were all wealthy until they became one of Sandy's followers, the Sandoristas. When they died, they were all practically in poverty.

A few days later, Rebecca gets a visit from an FBI Agent, Brandon Seymour, who is looking into Richie's client, Claire Baxter in conjunction with the sale of stolen antique jewelry from Iraq. Seymour wants Rebecca to give him information on Richie and Claire. When she talks to Richie about the matter, he insists that everything is totally above board.

Shortly after Richie's mother, Carmela and her friend Geri start going to the Seances, they attend the funeral of one of women they had seen there. The woman died suddenly and alone, just like some of the earlier "Sandorista" deaths. Is there a connection between the deaths or are they really natural causes? Are the seances a scam or on the level?

What about Claire, the FBI, and the stolen jewelry? Is Claire being honest or will she drag Richie down with her? Can Rebecca and Richie figure out what is going on and who is responsible?

Three O'Clock Séance by Joanne Pence, the third book in the Rebecca Mayfield series, crashes Richie Amalfi into Rebecca Mayfield's life again with a mystery surrounding a psychic whose clients are dying in suspicious numbers and circumstances. At first it appears it might just be coincidence, but that soon appears to be wishful thinking on Mayfield's part. The more time Rebecca and Richie spend together, the more the reader roots for her to accept and confess her feelings for Richie while she continues to fight them and Richie continues to woo her in his own confusing way. Once again, I loved every scene with Mayfield's little dog, Spike, especially the clear affection for Richie that Spike's not a bit shy about showing unlike his owner and much to Rebecca's irritation. Pence writes a fun, fast moving, intriguing mystery woven with bits of humor that had me struggling to not laugh out loud while reading it during a late night flight.

Didn't put it down!

Couldn't put it down. Read in one day. The book keeps you recited to each page and chapter trying to guess who and what we'll happen next. After reading chapter 1 of the next book in the series I gave to go to Amazon and get it.

I love the series, an Italian business man and a woman inspector of the SFPD not the match that either of them want but finding them selves needing one another's help to solve a mystery. Funny and captivating getting ready to read next in series.

I enjoyed reading the third book in this series. There were a lot of twists and turns and I'm happy to see Rebecca and Ritchie move closer in their relationship. The storyline involving a medium was interesting and kept my attention throughout the book. Looking forward to reading the next one.

Not even a ghost slows down our intrepid Inspector!

Richie—always loathe to find Rebecca in any danger—takes her into hot spots himself, when he discovers that friends of friends of his mother's are dying unexpectedly after becoming involved with a psychic. He just wants Rebecca to check things out to see if there's anything to be concerned about, and before he knows it, she's not only investigating the psychic but going out with him! Richie doesn't want any romantic entanglements but by golly he doesn't want Rebecca with anyone else. Why to do? Maybe he should ask the spirits…
