Sid Hansen is a remorseless, death dealing, super soldier--and he works at GameStop. That’s right. Kill Team One now has a job in a videogame retail store filled with cranky customers, shoplifters, crying kids, and people who just haven't figured out how to use Steam yet. SPOILER It’s a situation that can't possibly end well. And it’s about to get a whole lot worse… A global organization of radical* Islamists have tracked Sid all the way from the mountains of Afghanistan, where he may or may not have been kinda sorta responsible for just some itty bitty little crimes against humanity. Hell-bent on revenge, they’ve planned the largest martyrdom operation ever conducted. Buildings will crumble. The streets will run red with blood. Their jihad will not end until they have accomplished their sole objective--to kill Kill Team One. But their enemy is a godless murder machine capable of violence even these barbarians can't imagine, so he's going to paint a very clear picture for them... *These radicals in no way represent the peace loving majority of Muslims.
The totally over the top, disturbing, and twisted second book of Kill Team One, aka Sid Hanson. Vengeance comes to town looking to settle a score with Sid, ruining Sid's attempt to be a normal guy. Normal for Hanson is the title of this book. If you don't have a dark sense of humor , this is not for you, if you do , check it out and enjoy.
Your best bet is to read these books in order, this being the third book. Previous volumes are Kill! Kill! Kill! And Rated R. There are so many characters reintroduced or referred to that you’ll feel that you missed something if you don’t. And the books are all top-drawer in the genres of Thriller and Humor and you just can’t look away once you start them. The pace is unrelenting and hilarious.
It's over the top, it's ridiculous, and I loved it. The second book in this series is just as good as the first, with the comic horror gore turned up to eleven.
This time, Sid, the godless murder machine, being targeted by an innumerable number of jihadi terrorists, including a woman horribly mutilated by Sid's brother, and others in the past. Fatimah is a human suicide bomber who keeps on surviving, who thinks she has been given this gift by Allah, in order for her to finally kill Sid.
As I've said, the action is totally over the top, with one character even refering to the fact Sid never gets shot as him having "plot armour". Sid stabs, shoots, disembowels and bayonets his way through the jihadis, all while trying to work out why his stripper "friend with benefits" girl is suddenly giving him the cold shoulder.
There's an underlying plot about some Russian mobsters that plays out in the next book in the series, but it's just a brief mention. I'm looking forward to it.
The good, they acknowledge Sid's protagonist nature and the plot related powers it grants. The proofreading is still great. The bad, everything else. All the problems of the first one and the establishing stuff is purely boring. The author forgot that good development of interesting and complex characters can be as engaging, or more engaging, as spectacles of violence. All the new characters are shallow tropes without interesting features, and the returning cast gets virtually no development.
I read the previous book in this series and was entertained by its tongue in cheek use of 80s action movie cliches. Sadly, this book reads more like Die Hard 2 than Die Hard. The plot is ludicrous without being funny and the characters are often boring or unlikable. If this really was a movie I'd recommend skipping it and hoping the next one in the series was better.
More crazy from Mike Leon. Like the first book in the series, take a ride with THE ultimate soldier. Completely insane, totally improbable, and irresistibly readable.
A rating of NC-17 is underselling the debauched nightmare of violence that plays out in this novel. It is ‘Die Hard’ as if filmed by Tarantino, with Micheal Bay working effects and del Toro making script rewrites.
Mr. Leon does a great job with this action series. It is Mack Bolen and The Destroyer wrapped up in one. If you have ever read men's adventure books of the 70s and 80s, this is your new series. Great second book. Give him a try.
It took me a while to buy this one. I absolutely loved KILL KILL KILL, but was disappointed in the direction of the follow-up, Rated R. When Godless Murder Machine went on sale in preparation for the new book, I decided to give it a shot.
What the f**k was wrong with me? Godless Murder Machine is amazing. Once the action starts (and it doesn't take very long) it doesn't stop. There aren't any cyborgs or werewolves in this one, but the ultra-violence won't disappoint. I wasn't sold on Sid going in, but I'm now a believer. The satirical elements are the icing on the cake. ("Rape Culture - The Movie"? Genius.)
The only good part of waiting so long to read this is I only have to wait a few days for the next book. All hail Mike Leon! Five stars, recommended for anyone who doesn't want to be a sniveling wimp for the rest of their lives.
What would you get if you combined Deadpool, John Wick, all the Die Hards and Mike Leon? Godless murder machine! Best book I've read this month. Read it!
