Doomsday by Design

Rate this book
We've all heard the conspiracy theories about a government waging war against its own people, but there's nothing in the world that would convince an ordinary citizen of the severity of such a threat; it was all paranoid nonsense invented in the imaginations of delusional minds within our society. After all, conspiracy theorists have been around for as long as anyone can remember, and it's not like any of them ever had any legitimacy to their claims. With the loudest of them hollering reptoids and space aliens, it's easy for everyone else to turn a blind eye to the entire community. The idea of an economic collapse, an orchestrated pandemic, or a planned world war was absolutely ridiculous. None of them would ever happen, and if they did, we would get through it somehow, just like we did during the plague, World Wars I and II, and the depression. To ponder on these outlandish threats was a waste of time and energy.

But even conspiracy theorists and doomsday preppers wouldn't anticipate all three of these scenarios occurring in one lifetime, all back to back. The economy begins to crumble, and a new disease emerges and spreads too quickly for anyone to control. With the world on the brink of panic and with the problems too overwhelming for anyone even in the highest positions of power to fix, the third and final disaster implements, leaving the earth devastated in its wake.

On the morning of doomsday in a small isolated town in Nevada, a senior in high school named Sandra Levy has an argument with her eccentric uncle, a man by the name of Dorian, who is perhaps the most dedicated doomsday prepper in the world. Tired of his insane ramblings and pointless preparations, Sandra storms off to school after making her thoughts on his antics well known. Little did she know that her ordinary day would be interrupted by the very thing Dorian feared most; a holocaust happening on American soil.

Once Sandra returns home, she finds that her uncle is missing. Now, with a gang of ragtag survivors and with the world enveloping in chaos, Sandra must follow her uncle's vague directions in order to find him, and to find the sanctuary he built before the crisis. And with the Red Flu still spreading like wildfire and with mysterious people in power that nobody before the war had voted for, Sandra and the remaining freedom fighters in the world had their work cut out for them. Along the way, she forms a family, and their sanity and endurance would be tested constantly, as well as their bonds and their loyalties. They'd all be exposed to a disturbing side of humanity that none of them would be prepared for, all the while learning about the disaster and trying to determine why it had happened in the first place.
