My thoughts about overall book is here So I’ll talk about individual chapters and their high and low points (aren’t much) and illustration, without revealing too much specific information.

The plot is simple; a toddler’s family was murdered and somehow he ended up living in a graveyard. So...

Chapter 1



This chapter proves that "Being Human” isn’t everything. You need to act like one and if you have a kind soul then you can definitely make the whole humanity proud, even if you have left the human body ages ago. Does it make any sense? Well! Read the book, you’ll know what I mean.

Chapter 2



Now this is such a cute chapter that I wanted to read this twice :P But I had some hangry people to appease, so....

This chapter reminds me of the kid I used to be, and makes me realize that how much I have changed and I’ll never be the same again. That was the best version of me and I sometime miss that kid. A lot of nonsense again I know :P but that’s what I felt after reading this chapter.

Chapter 3



Probably my least favorite chapter but this one had a new cool and mysterious character. I wish there was more information about her. But I guess this was the chapter in which bod really evolved. Here’s the favorite panel from the chapter



Chapter 4



Sometimes the tiniest wishes are the greatest She only wanted a headstone and what she got at last was "Not bad, not bad at all” A real heart touching chapter again :)

Chapter 5



The most intriguing chapter in my opinion, it made me real curious and the ultimate answer I got was really satisfying. I won’t spoil it by revealing anything. A unique phenomenon and beautifully portrayed (words and illustrations both)

Chapter 6



This first frame is my favorite from this chapter, which is all about chasing your dreams. The events leading to them can be a bit disheartening or confusing sometimes, but if your wishes are true you’ll always achieve them. Always

Chapter 7 & 8

They both are related and unlike other chapters, they can not be read alone as a short story. But they really make the book a real good one. The end isn’t exactly what I expected but that’s exactly how life is. Once it sunken in, I really appreciated the way Gaiman finished it. He is a true genius and this is a marvel of a book.

"Esa es la diferencia entre los vivos y los muertos ¿no? Los muertos no te fallan. Ellos ya vivieron su vida, y lo que hicieron, hecho está; nosotros no cambiamos. Pero los vivos siempre te decepcionan."

Es una muy buena adaptación grafica, bastante redonda. Aunque pierde algunos detalles y sutilezas de la novela. Pero es muy disfrutable en su conjunto.

Me gusto un poco mas la primera parte, la segunda tiene algunos altibajos.

El arte de Russell me gusto mucho,muy acertado. Por momentos, en algunos pasajes,me resulto similar al arte de Gabriel Rodriguez en Locke y Key... En cuanto a las fisonomías, los trazos, inclusive la paleta de colores también es similar.

Un libro que engancha, entretiene, te hace pensar, y sobre todo con muchos personajes diferentes y peculiares.

El libro contiene una gran cantidad de personajes con cualidades diferentes, dispuestos a hacerte recordar cosas importantes y hasta enseñarte su punto de vista.

Una trama simple, pero bien llevada, nada del otro mundo.

El protagonista tiene esa singularidad que hace que amemos su desarrollo para con la historia. Además te hace sentir, en lo personal fue nostalgia, puede ser diferente en cada persona, pero sin duda te hará sentir.

Una novela gráfica bastante larga, pero amena.

Cada capítulo te presenta una etapa de la vida del protagonista, de ese mismo modo, cada capítulo tiene un ilustrador diferente, lo que puede hacer que te guste o no, en lo personal fue un 50/50, hubieron ilustraciones que me encantaron y otras que no me gustaron para nada.

La narración fue muy buena, me encantó.

Me ha gustado mucho este cómic, nos relata la historia de Nadie Owens y como acaba viviendo en el cementerio con los muertos después de que asesinen a toda su familia cuando es un bebé y a partir de ahí todas sus vivencias en el paso de los años y está complementado con unas ilustraciones preciosas.

I read The Graveyard Book a few years back and found it unique and delightful. When I found that it was adapted to a Graphic Novel, I couldn’t resist.
This has all the charm of the book, with the added bonus of a visual guide. Each chapter is illustrated by different illustrators, whom kept to the same theme. But the individuality is there; making this again something so very unique that comparison is absurd and impossible.

This was a very good reminder of why I adore Gaiman's work.
I have The Sandman Collection to tackle next…. Can’t wait!

This was largely the same story as the book, though somewhat abridged, which meant some degree of characterization and the exact events were lost in translation. But I enjoyed the art (and was only somewhat flummoxed by the changing artists and styles). The core of the story was there.

Das Ende mancher Bücher stimmt einen melancholisch. Man will nicht loslassen. Die Figuren sollen bei einem bleiben. Bod - er ist einem ans Herz gewachsen. Und so wie die Figuren im Buch, so muss auch der Leser Bod ziehen lassen. So ist das mit schönen Geschichten.

Die Zeichnungen haben das Buch zu einem ganz besonderen Leseerlebnis gemacht.

This is such a unique story with incredible beautiful illustrations. I wish the story would continue and we could learn about Silas background and what Bod is about in the world of the living. This was so very whimsical and at the end also very sad. I loved every page.

Adaptación a novela gráfica por Philip Craig Russell de la novela de Neil Gaiman. No he leído la novela original, pero esta adaptación está simplemente genial. La he disfrutado muchísimo y los personajes de Nad y Silas están tan bien caracterizados que han enamorado a esta lectora.

Todo empieza con el asesinato de una familia de la que sólo se libra un bebé que acaba en el cementerio protegido por los fantasmas que lo habitan. Estos espíritus lo adoptan y lo crían, educándole en las especiales habilidades que le permitan sobrevivir a peligros inimaginables. Y es que nunca se sabe lo que te puedes encontrar en un cementerio.

Si la historia de por sí está bien, los dibujos no se quedan atrás, creando un conjunto que atrapa al lector.

I experienced this story originally in audiobook form and adored it then. Adapted into comics by P. Craig Russell & Co., The Graveyard Book is just as gripping as before.

The slightly different rendering of Bod and his adoptive family in each chapter is consistently refreshing, much like the adaptation as a whole. They all share ties to the similarly evocative and often unsettling Little Nemo in Slumberland comics.

I'd recommend this to anyone who would like something rooted in tragedy but still brimming with life. You can take it one chapter a night and relish it over one week. (Or devour it all at once and leave your head whirling, like I ended up doing.)

Me ha encantado este libro, ha sido distinto a todo lo que he leído, sin duda es una trama singular narrada de una manera impecable, en ocasiones hasta de manera poética. Muy buenos personajes secundarios, quedé con ganas de conocer más sobre Silas. Es el primer libro que leo de Gaiman y me ha gustado un montón. 🧡

Una maravilla de historia, que te remite a grandes clásicos pero que los renueva con gran imaginación. La trama bebe mucho de historias como la de Mowgli en el Libro de la Selva o la de Tarzán. Pero Neil Gaiman coge estas tramas maestras y las viste magistralmente con una localización innovadora, reglas mágicas y misteriosas, personajes raros en el mejor sentido... Lo he disfrutado mucho.

El libro del cementerio es un libro que tenía pendiente desde hace tiempo. Tengo la novela narrativa, pero nunca me animé a leerla y fue pasando el tiempo. En esta ocasión, Roca Editorial nos ha traído la novela en forma de cómic y no podía estar más feliz de saberlo. Si me seguís de hace tiempo sabréis que apenas leo en este formato, pero me parece una muy buena forma de descubrir una nueva historia. Con este libro creo que ha sido muy acertado hacerlo novela gráfica. La historia es muy visual y acompaña a crear ese ambiente fantasmal que retrata la narración.

It's not that I didn't like the story or the atmosphere of the Graveyard. But unfortunately I was pretty bored most of the time while reading. - I started this in summer! So I had to force myself to finish it.. and what better evening than on Halloween. ;) - In the end it became better when the action of the finale started. I'm not sure how much I like that every chapter is imagined by another artist. Maybe the whole thing would feel more fluent and complete if everything was done by the same. (2.5 stars)

Me ha encantado la historia de Nad y la vida en el cementerio!

Una noche un asesino busca matar a una familia, pero en bebe logra sobrevivir y ser refugiado en el cementerio, de ahí comienza toda una aventura dentro de este lugar mientras este joven se prepara para lo que le depara el destino.

Es ya novela gráfica que me ha entretenido y atrapado muchísimo, los personajes que muestran, las aventuras que vive el protagonista, y la forma narrado es algo que destacó mucho.

Silas es un personaje muy misterioso, tutor del protagonista, bastante vampiresco, pero en si creo que es uno de mis favoritos.

Me gusta la relación de amistad que establece de pequeño con todos, es muy lindo ver cómo todo el cementerio lo cuida y el investiga la historia de cada uno.

Los malos de la historia me gustaron pero aún así me hubiera gustado conocer algo más de ellos, pero me encantó su destino.

Ame muchas escenas dentro de la novela, es una historia muy interesante y que sin dudas te entretiene y atrapa.

Hay misterio, amistad, familia, aprendizaje, poderes sobrenaturales, crecimiento.

El final lo encontré bonito pero triste ...

Dieses Buch ist eine neue und illustrierte Adaption des Romans "Das Graveyard-Buch" von Neil Gaiman. Ich selbst kenne den Roman nicht, kann daher keinen Vergleich ziehen. Diese Graphic Novel konnte mich jedoch durchwegs begeistern.

In einer verhängnisvollen Nacht wird fast eine ganze Familie ermordet. Mutter, Vater und Tochter...nur der kleine Junge überlebte. Er tappte in seiner Abenteuerlust mitten in der Nacht aus dem Haus und gelangte so zum benachbarten Friedhof. Sehr zur Überraschung der dort lebenden Geister. Da der Junge immer noch in Gefahr schwebt vom Mörder seiner Familie entdeckt zu werden, nehmen sich die Geister seiner an - die Geister und Silas. Obwohl Silas kein Geist ist, ist er Ehrenbürger des Friedhofes. Silas ist weder tot noch lebendig und etwas Geheimnisvolles umgibt ihn. Obwohl die wirklich angesprochen wird was Silas ist, ist dem Leser von Anfang an klar, dass es sich bei ihm um einen Vampir handelt. Er erklärt sich selbst zum Vormund und Beschützer von dem Jungen, welcher nun den Namen "Nobody" trägt.
Mit Bod erlebt man allerhand Abenteuer. Man entdeckt ein uraltes Hügelgrab, das vom Indigomann und dem Sleer bewacht wird, man wird vom Herzog von Westminster, dem Erzbischof von Bath und Wells und dem ehrenwerten Archibald Fitzhugh entführt und macht dabei die Bekanntschaft vom 33. Präsidenten der Vereinigten Staaten und dem Schriftsteller Victor Hugo - übrigens alle nun Ghule. Man bekommt eine alte Schachtel als Aufpasserin aufs Auge gedrückt, die jedoch nicht das zu sein scheint was sie ist und begibt sich in Gefahr, weil man das Friedhofsgelände verlässt.
Doch die wirkliche Gefahr ist der Mörder seiner Familie, der noch immer auf der Suche nach Bod ist und immer näher kommt.

Alle davon sind durchwegs gelungen und fangen die Story und auch deren Atmosphäre gekonnt ein. Ich persönlich, als Comic-Neuling, bin vor allem von den Illustrationen von Kevin Nowlan und Scott Hampton schwer begeistert. Galen Showman richtet sich sogar manchmal bei Zeichnungen von Grabsteinen über die Grabinschrift direkt an den Leser.

Dieser Comic besticht also nicht nur durch die spannende, fesselnde und auch witzige Story, sondern vor allem auch durch die Liebe zum Detail.
In der Mitte des Buches kommt es stellenweise zu ein paar langatmigen Stellen. Durch die stimmungsvollen Illustrationen werden diese jedoch abgeschwächt. Ich wäre neugierig, ob diese Längen auch beim Kinderbuch selbst bestehen und wie ausgeprägt diese darin sind.
Die Altersbeschränkung für diesen Comic lautet ab 16 Jahren. Dem kann ich nicht vollends zustimmen. Da die Story doch etwas Kindliches an sich hat, wäre es für mich schon ab 13/14 Jahren geeignet (ich habe mit 13 Jahren Stephen King gelesen und aus mir ist auch was geworden und zwar keine Psychopathin).

Die Ausgabe ist ein Hardcover in qualitativer Aufmachung. Ohne Schutzumschlag ist dieses Buch zwar schlicht, macht jedoch trotzdem eine gute Figur im Regal.


Fazit:
Mit "Das Graveyard-Buch" hält man eine wunderschöne und stimmungsvolle illustrierte Adaption des gleichnamigen Kinderbuches in den Händen. Eine Graphic Novel nicht nur für Kinder ab 13/14 Jahren (persönliche Altersempfehlung), sondern durchaus auch für Erwachsene, ergo eine tolle Gruselgeschichte für groß und klein.

Tercer libro Gaiman que leo y no me ha defraudado para nada.
Una historia increíble, con unas ilustraciones bellísimas para disfrutar, aún más, la historia.
Pensé que no iban a revelar las razones del asesinato, así que agradezco que lo dijeran aunque no puedo dejar de pensar en Nad como un Moisés contemporáneo...en lugar de abrir el mar Rojo tiene contacto con el más allá
Me encantó la forma en la que se desarrolla la historia en un solo escenario, como logro darle toda esa vida y emoción a un cementerio. Silas es mi personaje favorito y ojalá hagan una segunda parte para ver de nuevo a estos personajes.

Maravilloso. Me ha gustado muchísimo tanto la historia como las ilustraciones. La verdad, es que ha sido todo un acierto elegir esta edición.

La historia de Nad engancha desde la primera página. Hay muchos personajes y muy dispares, lo que le da al libro más interés y es divertido. También es una oda al hacerse mayor, al perder los privilegios que tenemos de pequeños para dejarlos de lado y volar solos.

This is one of my all-time favorite stories, and reading it in graphic novel form was such a delight! It stuck extremely close to the written story and the art was just beautiful!
