Xyla Turner was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She has always been a writer, even as a teenager, she wrote short stories and essays that won awards and nation-wide competitions. Xyla is an avid reader of romance novels and a sucker for sassy females and dominant males. She is a lifelong learner, High School Vice-Principal and a pretty good Auntie. Outside of reading, Xyla likes to spend time with her family and friends, experiment with dangerous adventures and travel. She writes different genres, but her favorite is romance.
I really liked Ryan and D'Asia's story. It took me a little while to get into this one, but once I did it was great! I liked that it was part of a series but I still got some closure. Will likely read the next book.
That's it!.... That's how u end it. I got questions? I gonna need more.... Sal? That whole situation? Mrs. Henry? Love the subject matter. DARE brought back memories.
What happens when a white cop falls in love with a black around the way girl with brains and baggage. A damn good story is what happens. D’asia and Ryan are the two that fall in love. Dacia lives in a housing complex in Harlem she’s young and she’s taking care of her younger brother. No father on the scene her mother is a crackhead. And Ryan McFadden is the cop who is first attracted to her and then falls in love with her. Against all odds these two should not be involved with each other but love changes all of that. This is really a good book I’m sure you love it it’s romantic it has it steaminess. In the right places. I’m sure you’ll love this book I recommended to you.
One of the most frank discussions I've ever read on race and crime in a love story. The author didn't shy away from discussing the division between minorities and the police and offered a bit of perspective from both sides. Read it!
10-80 was an amazing read, it had all the elements I love in a romance novel. The book is about a women named D'asia and how she lives in a bad area of NYC. She has strict rules when it comes to the police dont talk to them. Well in this book D'asia meets a police officer named Ryan who seems would do anything just to go out on a date with her.
This book discusses racism and even made references to such cases as sandra bland and Trayvon Martin and the black lives matter movement. Which I felt all made the story that much more honest and real.
After some time D'asia soon founds out that she really likes and cares for Ryan but will refuse to make their relationship a thing because she feels not only is she breaking code because they both come from two different worlds. But she also knows being with Ryan can be dangerous.
I loved how Xyla Turner took me on an emotional roller-coaster while reading 10-80. This was a great love story and I loved how well developed all the characters were in the story. I absolutely loved this story 5 stars!
3 1/2 Stars. Wow! What a great read with two really interesting main characters in D'asia and Ryan and a well developed supporting cast. Ryan started off as a bit of jerk but I came around quickly to liking him in spite of his bossy ways. The book is a bit preachy at times but given the subject matter Ms. Turner chose to include it can't be helped and she does a fine job of trying to show every side. Looking forward to the next book in the series because there are still unanswered questions when it comes to Sal.
Omg. It's at times like this where I wish I was good with putting my emotions into words because no matter what I say I won't do this book the justice it deserves. Yes, there were grammar mistakes, but I was too deep in the story to care. Honestly, I probably just like it because of the social issues that were in the story and how they were being addressed. The author didn't sugarcoat anything when it came to the discussions of gangs, minorities and the police. And the speech D'asia made at the Town Hall was wonderfully done.
Likable story with good mixture of characters. I thought D'Asia had great intentions despite the obstacles that were before her. Ryan feeling's for her were genuine. Important social issues were addressed well in the storyline as well as hot romantic scenes. Great read!
Loved the storyline between the two characters. I thought it was funny and dealing with the issues of today. It felt incomplete with some of the other characters I wanted to know what happened.
Second book I have read by this author. Love her style of writing. This story of a white police detective and a black welfare recipient was very different from the usual romance novels. Looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
All I'm going to say is: I tremendously enjoyed this book and I couldn't put it down. You learn so much about people circumstances and how it you really want to, you can change things for the better. Great characters, great storyline! Ryan, and Alpha male, will keep you riveting!!!
Here is what he said to D'asia, when she questioned his mother 's acceptance of her:
"Do. I. Look. Like. I. Am. A. Man. That. Does. What. He’s. Told.” I pronounced each word and put my hand on the wall, right next to her head. And an excerpt: ( when he had to put a desperate woman who was chasing him and badmouthing his woman)... ...on the system for some help. I won’t wish that on you, but what I will say. The one thing that she gets and you’ll never touch, is me.” “She takes me and only me. She’s tight and only lets me slide in that. You on the other hand, got too many hands in that jar and nothing is appealing about your loose ass.” Paula gasped as I backed up and finished, “So, go on back and take your desperate, thirsty ass inside to kiss more McFadden ass. The only one that can quench my thirst is Trap pussy.”
Enlightening and exciting. Can't believe how good this book is. Very well written and completely relatable. D'asia & Ryan are scrumptious and you can't help but root for them. Turner does a masterful job dealing with painfully cutting issues so prevalent in today's society. Showing two people who come from such opposite worlds navigate through that minefield and find love and a life together is inspiring and delightful. I loved the whole cast of characters especially Mr. Henry!😆 I was raised in the world depicted here..same types of neighborhoods, same people, same situations. Our parents made us view life with a 360degree angle. I always say there's no hope for mankind. But in life as in this tale I do see glimpses of beauty of hope and in that moment I realize the light at the end of the tunnel isn't always a train. I still think there is no hope overall..most people are not good and too enamoured of hate and doing evil things to others. But still catching those glimpses of light and beauty along the way brings wonderful moments of bliss even if they are temporary & fleeting. D'asia & Ryan..hmmmm...💕
D'Asia is a young woman living on welfare in the projects, raising her teenage brother Zeke, when they were abandoned by a drug addict mother who only shows up to rob them. She hates cops coming to their projects, and one follows her on the elevator attempting to question her about the missing next door neighbor. Being a black woman, followed around by a white cop is very dangerous in her neighborhood. Ryan is totally turned on by D'Asia and keeps making passes at her, going so far as to kiss her. When he is at the station when Zeke and his best friend get arrested for attempted vandalism to a portrait of Malcolm X, he demands she call him for coffee or a meal. He starts a program with the boys doing community service every Saturday, teaching them about history along the way. He Gets D'Asia in his sights and finally in his bed. It is very dangerous for both of them, with Black Lives Matter and Blue Lives Matter. Can This possible romance bloom red with love, or will it end red with blood? The author writes about New York, where she is from, and her descriptive writing is very good, though there are some typos in the text.
I love this author. Other than this series, I have read pretty much all her books. I decided to try this one because if I could get through the racist politician (Trent) and end up loving it...maybe this would work for me.
The h has a lot of crap going on in her life. It is rough out there. H's caring for the neighborhood and justice were definite bonuses but I stopped when it stopped feeling consensual. I don't know but in this exact situation, their relationship is dangerous, very dangerous to *her* and I can't with a H who puts his h in danger because he likes the bright shiny thing he wants. I stopped there bc if I can't make sense of what a character is doing, I won't give a damn about a HEA.

I enjoyed this book. I think this series is a great example of why I like Xyla Turner's writing. She deals with topics that most tread lightly over. She dives in and causes you to question yourself. In this book, it was dealing with bias and prejudices, those unspoken rules that plague our society. D'Asia was dealt a bad hand in life, but she was trying her best to turn it around. But that cop, Ryan, just would not leave her alone, and where she's from, you don't want to be seen hanging with a cop. This book deals with real issues (socieconomic status, race, cop crimes, hood issues) and I recommend this. Caution: this is written for adults (language and situations).
This was a good "forbidden" romance. Intense because of his occupation and her location. Informative because it touches on both of their goals and lifestyles. Very stubborn and driven characters. I like that Ryan was instantly drawn to her, very protective of her, encouraged her, respectful yet determined. She's young in age but wise, bold, very strong, independent and can see beyond the environment she was raised in. There was some unfinished Ryan business that I would've preferred be concluded here but which I am assuming will be addressed later in the series.
I really enjoyed this book. Ryan and D'asia are from two different worlds. Him being a white cop and her being a black woman living off government assistance. The code in most hoods is you don't mess with the po po. Ryan wasn't trying to hear none of that. He was will to go to war with anyone including his judgmental mother to keep his girl. Although there were obstacles against them I'm glad they made it. His mother even acknowledged she was wrong for judging D's sis.💌💌
The book was good. A little too on the nose/preachy with the topical themes, but I liked D'Asia and how she took care of her brother Ryan was a hard sellat first cause I disliked how he acted when he met her. He was very unprofessional, disrespectful, way too familiar, pushy. Also kissing someone without their consent is NOT ok. Like she could have filed a complaint for sexual harassment. And having an 'alpha' type personality isn't a reason to behave the way he did. He ended up turning decent though, which made helped me finally enjoying most of the story.
This was a really good book I enjoyed the relationship between D'asia and Ryan they come from two completely different worlds but they fell in love. Ryan was a real go-getter he was not going to let her get away and she was trying so hard to focus on getting out of the the Trap. Once again it touched on the battle between the minorities and the cops. Not only do you get a great story but it's timely to.
Loved this book! I was not feeling well when I started it,and needed something to completely pull me in.This book was perfect! It kept me interested all the way through.I loved D'asia and Ryan.Ryan was pure alpha male that knew what he wanted, and didn't let anybody stand in his way(not even his mama lol). This author is never afraid to tackle the tough subjects, and I love that about her.Great book and I think everyone would enjoy it.
Okay so this is a book I can relate to and it really go to show that low can conquer all. Ryan and D'asia hang in there and didn't let life or others get in the way of there love . It's hard to get out your own way and let love in. Determination can change your situation and D'asia was determined to make a better life for her and her brother, am glad he was also ready for the change he didn't end up in the juvenile system
Some very topical issues here, Race and the systematic oppression of black people between a biracial couple. I loved that they were both so open to each other’s circumstances, views, struggles and subsequent rise but overall the writing needed some work. It felt basic although there were parts that were beautifully written and offered different perspectives.
Law enforcement is one of my fave tropes & Ryan is a total Bae Detective😍He is a 💯badass alpha , who knows what he wants & pursues his lady love, despite almost insurmountable odds! It was great to see them find a path to each other, even though they were from two different worlds ! Xyla Turner is an excellent ✍🏼& I love all her 📚I do however, wish there was an epilogue ! Happy Reading🍷
An amazingly beautiful story, not only of a love between black and white, but the clash between black and blue. Thank you for a fresh perspective on the black lives matter agenda. I am a firm believer in all lives matter, but I haven't lived with the same prejudices as most black-americans have to face everyday. Thank you, Danny Scott.
This was a great book! The main character was very outspoken and she didn't pull any punches! The love interest Ryan was an alpha cop and he could make me do anything he demanded. I loved that Ryan let D'asia make her own decisions even though he didn't like it. He was very supportive and only wanted to see her succeed no matter what the terms were!
This was really good. Although there were a few punctuation mistakes, it took nothing away from the story. I rooted for our main characters and could not put this down. Here's to a good read!
I loved the characters..senarios were believable..no clichés..and the heroine actually didnt make me angry ..i love it...p.s i hated the use if the word "sweetness" from a guy ..it seemed weird😕..other than that ..great read it wont disappoint
This writer is electrifying! The words jump off of the page. I love the human factor of her writing, not to mention the endlessly possibilities of finding love. The sexy scenes are everything. The writer knows quite a bit about that alpha-male talk!
I loved everything alpha about my boy Ryan! My girl D'Asia gave no f**k's! Loved. It! She checked the hell out of Sanchez bitter bish a**. But seriously, in the end I would've love to hear D'Asia profess her love in return whenever Ryan stated that he love her.
