IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ:

This is the FIRST BOOK of a two-part series (The Silver Nitrate series):
1. GRIND
2. GRIT

The book had to be divided due to a high page count. However, the SECOND BOOK, ‘Grit’, is being simultaneously released with ‘Grind’. Therefore, there is no wait time for the reader and no lingering cliffhanger. Thank you.

WARNING: This book has adult themes. Though the author does not consider this erotica, there are detailed scenes of a sexual nature as well as mature content. Please be advised.

BLURB:

Skilled welder by day and drummer by night, Zenith Taylor has inherited a healthy self-confidence and an enviable work ethic from his Iroquois grandparents. Yet, past suffering stops him from forming emotional ties and seeking meaningful connections.

Such as love for a woman…

Enter Silver Faye, a top notch professional with a zesty personality. Recent grief has left her feeling emotional and guilty to the point where she’s built a wall around her heart. One evening though, Fate brings her face to face with Zenith…

Silver and Zenith share a love for repairing the seemingly unfixable. The attraction is undeniable, and as they begin to forge a friendship, deeper feelings set in. The past is hard to overcome… but eventually, long-held beliefs, pain and trauma are exposed, explored, and released, creating a healing that only they can provide for one another.

GRIND is a tale of true love, of two souls lost finding their path, of getting out of one’s way and becoming bigger and better than one could ever imagine.

GRIND is a gritty urban love story where bad boy meets bad girl — and they become something good, TOGETHER.

Wow!!

I don't know if I can accurately convey how much this book affected me but I will try.

We're dealing with a lot of life issues and like before, I feel like Tiana has been peeking into my life somehow. Alzheimer's and dementia affect the whole family. It's devastating seeing your loved one disappearing right before your eyes. I love that Zenith is all in when it comes to his Pawpaw's care.

Silver's guilt over her ex's death is so real to me; her last words were harsh and then he's gone. Been there, done that too, Ms. Laveen. Years went by before I let go of the guilt I felt when my aunt was killed and my last words to her were disrespectful; that messed me up for a long time.

Now, the courtship between Zenith & Silver has been hot to read, share, and feel. This author is so descriptive you can't help but feel like you're a part of the story.

I'm about to dive into Grit but before you do, y'all HAVE TO BUY GRIND....YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!!

Kill your darlings

This review is for Grind & Grit ( = one book)

Tiana writes long *ss long stories. She is thorough, I might say: overly so. She invests time in the characters that are like studies of human nature, in writing well-scripted dialogues and she uses a lot of metaphors. But still, I wouldn't mind if she'd occasionally killed her darlings. Her books wouldn't suffer. And she'll get my five stars more often. Because I like long reads, but I want those books to be on point and the way Tiana dishes up details after details makes me wanna skip pages of her books.

Having said that, over to this particular story: I liked the pairing of a Native American hero with an African-American heroine, I liked that he is a welder and a drummer in a band and that she is a game developer. I liked the secondary characters, I like how Tiana incorporated the complexities of dealing with a loved one who is suffering from dementia.

I liked less: the overused trope. do all books featuring a Native American have to delve into the mystique?

APB Perspective Review: 3.5 stars

I just couldn't connect with these characters , their conversations came across as immature at times . I felt the author spent too much time making their words sound cool , instead of just saying what they wanted to say. I must admit that the idea of this couple is what made me open this book and the fact that Tiana is one of my favorites . I got lost in the words of this story , too may words not enough story. This book just isn't for me but I will still continue to follow her work.

Loved this book!!!!

Fantastic Writing !!! It has been a while since I reacted so strongly to a book. Extremely well written, you will love the characters. You will laugh your butt off and then feel sadness for the characters. Love this book!!! I'm on to book 2.

Giving consideration to the fact that this is a Tiana LaVeen production, it was chock full of delicious drama, deep thought, and an intensive "chase" between the primary characters (Zenith and Silver). To be succinct, I liked it, but there were 2 elements that I did not like. The first was the over-the-top eroticism, and the second one (to a much lesser degree), was the metaphysical woo-woo philosophy that made me want to roll my eyes.
For me, having to wade through that stuff was annoying, but it was worth being able to dig into a story that kept me on the edge of my seat for an hour or two at a time.

Overall, this was a great read, and I am so looking forward to seeing how Zenith & Silver's story will end.

Giving this one: 3.5 stars.

Broken souls

No one is capable of uniting two broken lost souls better than Tiana Laveen, and in the process take her fans on such an incredible journey. This is the story of Silver and Zenith.

Even though the author gave us teasers throughout the process, I chose not to read them as I wanted to be surprised. I was not in the least disappointed as I read the development of these two main characters both separately and as a couple.

The dialogue is hilarious especially that of Paw (Zenith's grandpa). The chemistry, hilarity, love and understanding between Silver and Zenith had me feeling all kinds of emotions. I thoroughly enjoyed Grind and is anxious to delve into Grit.

I've been on a KU binge for a while and I haven't bought any books. I decided to give myself on an "outside of KU reading" budget, and purchased a few books. of course, I had to pick up a series from Tiana. I haven't read any of her books in a while and decided to start with this series.

For some reason, I love for the Hereos in IR to not always be white. I love learning about other cultures. So to have Zenith be Native American was a plus. I will definitely say even though this book was centered around 2 people, this book was more about Zenith. Zenith is a Welder and part time musician caring for his grandfather who dementia. Silver is a young tech professional, who is tomboyish dealing with some serious guilt. Silver and Zenith meet and take an interesting journey with one another.

So Tiana's book are always meant for therapy. Seriously, her books are often times therapy secessions. You start to deal with your own issues. This book definitely helps with dealing death and guilt. I read few reviews about the conversations between Silver and Zenith being "immature". Honestly, I didn't see it that way, mainly because of who they were outside for their relationship. So the way they spoke to one another seemed to fit who they were.

Tiana often uses a metaphors, mixed in with abrasive language lol as odd as it seems, it works really well. Paw being sick, didn't stop me from laughing lol This first book had a lot, she even included illustration of characters, which is great. Overall, I like the book.

Understanding

I totally get the part of wanting to know and understand your partner. But I don't agree with Silver's "need" to know about his parents death. If someone says they're not ready to talk about something then that should be the end of it. They haven't been together that long for the need to know his whole life story. Just because she barred her soul doesn't mean every one else has to

Good but wordy

Liked the plot but could have accomplished the same thing in half the words. Interested to see how the 2nd books works out.
