Silk is back and badder than ever! Cindy Moon has been working to find the missing members of her family since she escaped the bunker that was her home prior to the events of Spider-Verse. What's gotten under her skin, and is there any redeeming the Sinister Silk?

Silk is back and playing a more dangerous game than ever.
description

I'm really glad she didn't call herself Spider-Girl or Spider-Woman. There are three Spider-Man's now and it gets confusing. I refer to Miles Morales as Miles Morales not Spider-Man even when I'm reviewing his comics. Basically the same to Spider-Man 2099 I just call him that or Future Spidey. Silk gets her own name and gets to branch out to have her own identity. It's so simple but the Spider peeps don't always make it easy.

Anyway Silk #1 is a continuation of her story prior to Secret Wars. She's trying to take care of her brother who got himself into some trouble and currently has little memory of what happened to him. Silk got a promotion and can rent a tiny apartment now. She's working with what seems to be some unexpected people. The story is solid as all her stories have been so far. I'm hoping for more than just solid though.

Oh thank God it didn't even try to explain anything about that last horrid silk before Secret Wars. I'm going to basically ignore that one existed and embrace this as there was just a gap. Silk remains a daring character who is happy to... well, do what she does.

I think that I might like Silk better if I had read previous comics that she was in. I liked this, but it wasn't anything earth-shattering for me. Silk's backstory is interesting (trapped in a bunker for the last 10 years and therefore lacks knowledge of pop culture), and I appreciate the tongue-in-cheek similarities to Peter Parker (boss that looks like J. Jonah Jameson at a different news organization), but I haven't been drawn in yet. Also, maybe it's because she was sequestered from the world, or because this title is marketed to a younger crowd, but Cindy Moon never reads as a grown-ass woman to me.

There are a lot of things going on in this short issue, and how soon, and how well, they start to pay off seems like it will be the make-or-break for this title: missing parents; a brother in rehab; being a double agent in Black Cat's organization; and some goblin gang (kind of cheesy villains in my opinion).

P.S. To be honest, the fact that Silk is an Asian female, combined with the fact that, like many others, I have a fondness for Spider-Man, tipped me into reading this.

THE ART STYLE!!!!!!

"Cindy Moon was bitten by the same spider that bit Peter Parker. As a result, she developed adhesive fingertips and toes, the proportional strength of a spider, superhuman speed and agility, and a special organic webbing spun directly from her fingertips. after being locked away in a bunker for 10 years, Cindy was set free and became the crime fighting superhero silk.
[...] When she's not busy looking for them, you can find her swinging through the skies of new york."

"(I know.) (Nobody says'rad' anymore.) (I spent ten years in a bunker, okay?) (I apologize for nothing.)"

CINDY'S PLACE THAT'S SO CUTE
"Started off by waking up for the first time in my new place. Gonna take some getting used to. it's a tad smaller than my old place. But hey: it's got a window. And it's all mine. If by mine, you mean rental. At crazy New York city prices. still. Mine. First time in my life I've ever paid rent. Strangely? It's a good feeling."
And here's our liaison to the work vibes
"Actually being able to pay rent is only possible'cause I finally got a promotion at work. thank, Matt.
Um, it's Jason. Lemme know if y'all need anything else!" Why are all Jasons blond? He's pretty:)
"Lola, you know office romance isn't for everyone, right?"

"Not cool, stinky. I became a partial-full-time employee after finishing night courses and getting my G.E.D. stay in school, kids! (And out of hermetically sealed bunkers.)"

"Albert's recovery is going to be long and hard-- and to be blunt: we don't know how full it will be.
Well, we'll get through it. Together." I think he's doing speech therapy

"That was close. Not just a rad day, I guess... A lucky one, too." I should've seen it coming after this one

"They call themselves knights. But they're just pawns."

MOCKINGBIRD!!!!

"Oh, yeah... Actually... There is one other thing... I'm a bad guy now.
Okay, you're still new, so I'm gonna assume you're under some kind of spell, or maybe from an alternate universe.
Sorry to break it to you, boo Radley. But this? Really me.
What the hell happened to yo-- gah!
See you around, boo. So... Yeah. I'm a bad guy now. Bad girl? I'm bad. Deal with it. 'Cause that's not even the weirdest part... this is the weirdest part."
FELICIA!!!!!! WHAT A DUO
"You made the news. They still think you're a hero.
Working on it.
Goblin nation is getting stronger.
You worried?
Of course not. the goblin nation and its (can't believe I caught a grammatical mistake, the wrote it as "it's") so called king? They're weak. No. I'm worried about you. You seem to take great pleasure in beating on them. Is it business or personal? 'cause personal? Bad for business.
It's just business. Your business. [...]
Used to be one of ours, kid named Casey.
He jumped ship? Why?
I don't know but I want you to keep beating on them until I do.
My pleasure.
Thattagirl." Second thattagirl for the issue, Cindy are you a pawn to JJJ and felicia??

"Obviously, mockingbird is up to something.
Seriously?
Hell, she's probably stil a skrull.
Wait, what the what now?
Buncha heroes were kidnapped by skrulls a while ago. Held captive for years while their skrull counterparts took over their lives as sleeper agents. Allegedly. Buncha nonsense, you ask me.
*Back in secret invasion. Check it out but don't tell anyone: it's a secret, 'kay?"
Ahahah I love the way they're just making stories pass the obvious because it doesn't even cross their mind that silk could be bad

"Being bad? Not easy. Especially when... I'm really not bad at all."
"Were you followed?
No imwas careful. Like you taught me.
Like I taught you, huh? Well, speaking of, do me a favour. next time? Pull your punches like I taught you, okay? I don't have superpowers like you.
Sorry.
It's okay, can't seem to get the fact channel to believe you've broke bad.
Working on it.
I disabled the tech before handing it over like you told me. What was it?
According to s.h.i.e.l.d. records, some kind of chemical weapon. You think Black Cat would use--
No. That's not Cat's game. If she could use it, she'd only use it on her enemies.
Don't be so sure. And don't trust her. Ever.
You got anything for me?
No leads on your parents. Yet. But we're tracking your brother's history. A few more breadcrumbs. He wasn't in goblin nation long.
[...] Thank you for getting him into that hospital. They've been great.
We hold up our end at s.h.i.e.l.d. alright, I'm gonna go sleep this bruise away. Keep digging into cat.
Hey, boo... You were held captive by skrulls?
For years, yeah.
How... How did you get over that?
I didn't. Be careful out there, kiddo. Working undercover? Only person to watch your back is you.

PLOT TWIST ON TOP OF PLOT TWIST??? Cindy in her double agent era, this was interesting, fun, had action and plot going on, a strong pilot issue, enjoyed reading and next cover's looking good;)

I actually liked Volume 0 quite a bit, so this fell a little flat for me to start. Yeah, we get a bit of info about the bunker and what's going on with Albert, but I feel like you're kind of thrown into it with very little background on what's going on. If I hadn't read Volume 0, maybe I'd agree that it's a good starting point, but...

Otherwise, I dig it.

"Silk is back" makes me feel as if I am missing something. Solid first issue with decent dialogue and cool artwork. However, I wasn't hooked and I like I stated before, I feel like I am missing something.

Marvel released two different comics with the same exact name, same artist, same writer, in the same year. How dare? This comic is awesome though. I really love the art. I guess I should check out the other one. lol

Another great issue of Silk although I'm still not sure why the issue number has been reset back to one and I missed most of the end of the world stuff that was happening across various comic series so I am a little in the dark here.

Still in this issue Silk is back and still searching for her parents, but this time she's a double agent. Cindy is working with the criminal Black Cat but also with SHIELD as well. She's trying to get the city to believe that Silk has gone bad and become a criminal but it's not as easy as she had hoped.

Another great issue and a promising start (restart?) to the series.

Not that bad! So I didn't read the last series of Silk but now I'm gonna need to! One thing I'll give this issue , is that it doesn't rely on you reading the previous series to know whats going on *cough Spider-Gwen Cough*. But overall a fun issue with good writing and good artwork!

Really liked this. Not sure why, I usually don't do super hero comics. But I liked the main character and was intrigued about what's going to happen with her. It was a bonus that even though the girls were skinny and busty, they were at least well clad.

Wow, a great opener that also works perfectly as a continuation from the last series -- as if that pesky little Secret War never happened to interrupt its flow. Love any appearance of Mockingbird, too!

First comic book to have read and I really enjoyed it. I really liked the illustrations in it, and I wish my library carried all of the volumes so I could continue....
