Sadly I thought this book was a yawn fest. In the first 3 books of this series Sandy is portrayed as a happy go lucky kind of girl. You never hear anything about her or her sister past. Now all of a sudden you find out she comes from a home where her mother is an alcoholic and her father committed suicide.
The only thing you know about Hunter is his father and mother's occupation and he is going to college. Not sure what for, it was never said.
He has been in love with Sandy since he was 3 years old, okay I don't know about you but I don't remember a whole lot when I was 3.
Sandy thinks of Hunter as just a friend. They meet someone while on Spring break and it was nice of Sandy to think she could have a thing with a guy and have her friend Hunter on the side. Because she wants a man with money who can take her on adventures.
A slip, a fall and a bump on the head makes her see the light and she declares her love for Hunter. The surprise at the end, really wasn't that surprising.

**I received an ARC from the author for an honest review**

Sometimes you have a picture painted in your mind of what your future is supposed to look like, when in reality, your future is staring you right in the face. This was definitely the case for Sandy Cooper.

Sandy and Hunter Blakely had been best friends since grade school. They'd done everything and nothing together. They had seen one another through the best and worst of times. And, on the night they graduated from high school, they crossed the line that she swore they never would and slept together. After freaking out and bolting, Sandy didn't hear from Hunter for months even though she tried every way she could to reach out to him. Had she ruined the best friendship she'd ever had?

When she and her twin were supposed to take a spring break trip, the plans got derailed when Sandy's twin was suddenly unable to go. Having shown up to try to make amends, Hunter offers to go on the trip with Sandy. Will the besties be able to get back to where they had once been or will the feelings that Hunter knows he has for Sandy be too much for either of them to deal with?

I absolutely love Melanie Shawn's writing and this was no exception. The characters are always so real and the stories are engaging and heartwarming. I would highly recommend this book, as well as the rest of the series. I can't wait for the next installment in the series!

Well... what should I say? Cute story... highly unbelievable though.
Sandy and Hunter are both around 19 years old, just started college and have never been outside of their little town in California. BUT they know everything about "endless love" and "loving someone forever". Bullshit of you ask me. Both of them know nothing of the world and probably still haven't fully figured themselves out. Still, both characters are acting waaaay to grown up. Yes, they go to parties and get drunk over the day. But they are still collected and too mature to be true. Personally, I don't know any 19-year-olds who act like that (and I don't want to say that there are no teens like that anywhere - there probably are some... somewhere)
Additionally, the author tried to add a level of suspense by giving Sandy a shady past - which in fact doesn't really affect her whatsoever. She is described multiple times as the"brightest person one can know" and as "overly happy and positive". Even her worries are overcome pretty easily.

All in all it was an easy and quick read. I probably wouldn't read it for a second time.

In the fourth book in Melanie and Shawna’s Someday Series, Chasing Perfect we get a much closer look at Sandy who has been a regular secondary character as one of Cat’s dorm mates since the first book. I’ve always loved the Sandy character from the moment she enters the first book welcoming the shy, insecure Cat with open arms, taking her under her wing. Sandy has an irrepressible larger than life personality. She and her identical twin sister Brandy are Malibu Barbie gorgeous, but Brandy is more pragmatic and far less spontaneous. Sandy is a party waiting to happen. And she’ll make sure it does. There is one brief moment in the first book where Sandy hints that her relationship with her mother is less than perfect but until this book we never discover anymore about that.
This book opens on Sandy’s and Hunter’s (her BFF since first grade) high school graduation night. Hunter has always had a crush on Sandy (which she’s well aware of) but she’s always kept him at arms length because she knows Hunter’s dream is to graduate college, come home to Arcata, find a job, settle down and start a family. Sandy’s dream is to graduate college and explore the world and hopefully find a man who has the experience and ability to open doors to a world she’s only ever dreamed about living in. Sandy’s mother is an abusive alcoholic and her father committed suicide when she was only 4 years old. She’s grown up poor and ashamed on the wrong side of the tracks and can’t wait to leave the town and her past behind her for a fresh start with somebody who doesn’t know her sad background. But that night after a few beers at a local secluded watering hole Sandy seduces the now hunky Hunter. ***Spoiler Alert***Unbeknownst to both of them they give each other’s virginity to one another. The way the scene is written you’d never know based upon their mutual lack of inhibition and sexual performance that either was a virgin. Which I’m certain was the authors intent since that fact isn’t revealed to either of them or the readers until a much later poignant moment in the story. But honestly one of the few criticisms I have with this story was the way whenever these two get together for a love scene you’d swear instead of a couple of 18 year olds having just recently cashed in their V-cards they perform like long time very experienced lovers. Makes for some sizzling sex scenes but it just didn’t feel realistic. So anyway as soon as they recover from their multiple orgasm encounter Hunter has his heart crushed when Sandy trying to reset their relationship to just BFFs tells him, “You know it (the sex) doesn’t mean anything right.” Hunter without another word between them, takes Sandy home and leaves that very night for an early start to college and refuses to respond to Sandy’s repeated attempts to contact him. Sandy is heartbroken herself at the loss of Hunter’s friendship as he like her sister has always been her rock and partner in crime.
Fast forward nine months to Spring Break of their freshman year and Hunter returns home with the intention of working his way back into Sandy’s good graces knowing he’s hurt her. As it happens Sandy and Brandy had been planning and saving for years to go to Myrtle Beach on Spring Break but suddenly (just as Hunter appears) Brandy announces she can’t go without any real explanation as to why. This gives Hunter the opportunity to fill her spot and at least renew his friendship with Sandy if not convince her that they’re meant to be together. Now here’s the other part of this story that just didn’t make sense to me. Why would a couple of college kids from Northern California fly across country to Myrtle Beach for Spring Break? Sure all the kids from the Northeast and Midwest head south to the beaches of Myrtle Beach and Florida, but wouldn’t’ kids from Northern California just head south to So. Cal. or Mexico? At any rate while the rest of the story is well written and entertaining it’s also very predictable as Hunter stoically tries to return to the role of Sandy’s BFF and protector at the same time dreaming of being so much more to her, while Sandy continues to try and ignore her feelings for Hunter and the explosive sexual chemistry they share. Unless you’ve never read a modern romance book you can guess how well that all works out.
I was disappointed to discover that there’s a minor surprise cliff hanger at the end of this book (why Brandy backed out of the trip) which was supposed to be resolved in Brandy’s book Embracing Reckless the next full book in the series. But that book was supposed to be released in 2017. It’s now as I write this review almost 2019 and the only other book in the series was 4.5 the novella Her Book Boyfriend. So apparently the authors never released the fifth book, Brandy’s story or that of Evelynn the other of the four roommates. Not that this was a great series by any means but it was entertaining and after 4 books I did get sort of vested in the characters and would have enjoyed seeing Brandy and Evelynn get their stories told while keeping tabs on Cat, Jace, Sandy and Hunter.

Although the characters were a little shallow and easily forgiven (maybe too much, felt a little unrealistic per moments), it is still a nice light read. The author, Melanie Shawn, was really good at describing scenes.

CHASING PERFECT by Melanie Shawn
HONEST REVIEW FOR FREE ARC
Sandy and Hunter have been best friends since 1st grade. Hunter had been Sandy's protector since they met. He would protect her from her sick and abusive mother. He would protect her when others said rude or hurtful things, but Hunter's goal in life is to get a college education and come home and settle into Arcata. Sandy wants to get out of Dodge as quickly as possible. She wants a refined man who can show her the world and what it's like to live on the RIGHT side of the tracks.
The night they graduated from high school, Sandy and Hunter's relationship changed. Sandy knew Hunter had always had feelings for her and suddenly she was feeling lusty for Hunter. One the beach after a few beers, the two "did the deed". As soon as it was over, Sandy basically told Hunter that things between them wouldn't change. That deeply wounded Hunter and he left that night for an internship at his college. Sandy called, texted, and emailed Hunter several times, but he wouldn't respond. Now they both felt a huge hole that the other person had filled.
Ten months later: spring break
At the last minute Sandy's twin Brandy decided she couldn't go on spring break with her. Conveniently, Hunter appeared at their door just as this conversation was taking place. Hunter gallantly volunteered to go in Brandy's place and things snowballed from there.
Since Sandy and Brandy were sharing a room, and it was spring break at Myrtle Beach, Sandy and Hunter had to share the room. There was only one bed which made matters even more tense. Time, proximity and quite a lot of alcohol worked against (maybe for) them, and the chemistry was no longer in their control. They tried to fight it, tried to become interested in other folks, but they both caved.
I enjoyed the 1st person aspect of the chapters and the ladies did a wonderful job with the story. There were a few instances when my logical side would say, "TSA wouldn't let that happen" or "Why didn't anyone comment on their ages when they were either being served or being checked out by the physician?", but most readers most likely wouldn't be thinking about those things. The story kept my interest and it was easy to feel the heat between Hunter and Sandy.

It was nice to dive back into the Someday series by Melanie Shawn. I've read all the other series by this awesome writing duo and I must say, the Someday series is a great addition. It's different than the other series in that the characters are younger and more risqué. It was nice catching up with Cat and Jace and the end of the book has a twist that will make for an excellent next installment which I can't wait to get my hands on.

This book is about childhood friends Hunter and Sandy who realize that what they've been looking for has been there all along.
Hunter's been in love with Sandy since the first grade and Sandy's been in love with the idea of marrying an exotic wealthy man who will show her the world and help her escape the one she grew up in.

Sandy is a strong, beautiful young woman who was dealt a bad hand in life. Her father committed suicide before she was born and her mother is an abusive alcoholic. She grew up with the dream of finishing school and moving far far away from the town she grew up in. Hunter on the other hand has dreamt of settling down in his hometown with his dream girl. Because of this Sandy is convinced that they’re not right for each other.

Hunter has spent years protecting Sandy from her alcoholic mother and has been in love with her since the moment he saw her in first grade. He's Sandy's anchor, her rock and best friend. He's hidden his feelings for her until their fateful graduation night when things change completely. 10 months pass and they end up going on a trip together for spring break when everything in their relationship unfolds, turns upside down and rights itself in the best possible way.

This story is romantic, sweet, sexy and witty and will keep you flipping the page to see what happens next. I can't wait until he next installment and to catch up with Hunter and Sandy, Cat and Jace, and the rest of the gang. There are some new characters that were introduced who will hopefully also get their own stories. Do yourself a favor and pick this up, it’s so worth the read and you won’t regret it!

Chasing Perfect by Melanie Shawn (book 4 of The Someday Series) stars Sandy and Hunter. Sandy is one of Cat’s roommates and twin of Brandy. Hunter has been best friends with Sandy since first grade, in addition to always caring for her. Sandy has her life planned out for herself. She wants to leave their college town of Arcata, California and travel the world. She needs a man who is confident and sure of himself who travels in the circles of the wealthy. After a night of passion, Sandy says the wrong thing and suddenly, before she can apologize, Hunter leaves town for his out of state college.

Move forward in time and Sandy is getting ready for a spring break trip. She is flipping out because her twin, Brandy, is backing out of their trip. In walks Hunter, returning to make amends with Sandy for his lack of communication with her over the past months. Upon hearing that Brandy was backing out, he volunteers to accompany Sandy on her spring break trip. The story is full of all the various activities going on during a college spring break; sunbathing, drinking, partying, hooking up, and meeting new friends.

Sandy and Hunter meet Avery and his twin sister Acacia, whose family owns a summer home on the beach. Theirs is the life style Sandy always dreamed of. Sandy has caught the eye of Avery, which worries Hunter. However, Acacia has eyes only for Hunter. It is through this friendship, and scenes of jealousy, that Sandy realizes how important Hunter truly is to her.

I enjoyed Chasing Perfect and was pleased with the way Melanie Shawn allowed the growth of Sandy & Hunter in addition to Sandy realizing she had everything she wanted near at hand. I highly recommend this book and am looking forward to reading the next installment of the Someday Series, Embracing Reckless, which will be Brandy’s story.

Sandy and Hunter have a special connection. The friendship reaches out to the early childhood, and they have been there for each other ever since. Through everything, the growing pains, the abusive mother, the dead father, they have always been there for each other. Until sex changes everything. The one amazing night between them, and nothing will ever be the same again.
In the absence of Hunter, Sandy has to learn to stand on her two feet, to be independent, or as much one as having a twin sister, will allow.

But now Hunter is back, and with Sandy on the first adventure of her life. And it is a true spring break adventure, with beach life, parties, boating and games - mind games, jealousy, drinking games and all that is part of spring break, growing up, and finding your direction. And the games go on, until a life and death situation, make Sandy to face her true feelings, and admit that life is sometimes better than any fairy tale.
I love Melanie Shawn's writing style, the characters are so real, not only likable and charismatic, but people you would want to spend time with. Hunter's love Sandy is palpable in every scene, Sandy's emotional fears have kept her on distance, but life has perfect timing, and reasons for the wait game.

Even though the story is in the first person and the Young Adult genre, both something that are not normally my favourite as I usually enjoy a bit more mature characters, but the Someday series has captured my mind, because of the compelling characters.
The stories are filled with growing pains, the difficult decisions of adulthood, passion, love, and amazing friends. Lots of sweet romance, steamy love scenes, and fun banter, in midst of struggles and life lessons

Sandy and Hunter have known each other since elementary school and have been best friends through thick and thin. High school graduation day has arrived and they are ready to face the world. Sandy thinks she knows what she wants… to get out of her small home town and marry a rich, confident good looking man who will treat her like a queen. Hunter is content with his small town life and sees himself marrying, having a family and settling down right where he grew up.
Graduation night takes an interesting turn when they become intimate.. which is something neither one was expecting but each deep down wanted. Sandy’s first reaction was “Crap I think we just ruined our friendship” and she leaves Hunter wondering what just happened. They both go their separate ways to college and months go by with no contact between them. Sandy and her sister plan a trip for Spring Break and at the last moment, her sister backs out. Hunter is in town with the intent to deal with the issues between him and Sandy and ends up going on the trip with her.
It is a story of young love and of self-examination. Will Sandy and Hunter face their feelings or will they continue on the paths to the future they think they want? How they deal with their long seated feelings for each other and with their dreams for the future is the basis for the story.
The books ends with a glimpse of what the next book is about so we will be seeing more of Hunter, Sandy and her twin sister Brandy. Yeah!

"Chasing Perfect" is written by Melanie Shawn, and it is the 4th book in The Someday Series. It can be read as a stand-alone book. It features Sandy Cooper and Hunter Blakely.

Sandy and Hunter have been best friends since they were young kids. Their relationship has always been platonic until the evening of their high school graduation. Everything changed afterwards. Sandy got scared. Hunter was hurt and left. He never said goodbye to Sandy.

Fast forward to the present day. Sandy is ready for Spring Break! All is going according to plan until her twin sister, Brandy, bails out on her. Who steps in her place? Hunter.

Hunter misses Sandy. He's always loved her, and Sandy knows it. He needed to go away after that fateful graduating evening. But he wants Sandy back in his life. Problem is, Sandy is hurt by Hunter leaving her.

Will she give him a chance? What happens at Spring Break? Will someone other than Hunter capture her heart? And will that happen to Hunter as well? Or will all of what happens on Spring Break just bring Hunter and Sandy more closer together?

"Chasing Perfect" was beautiful to read. What I've always loved about the writings of this sister duo, Melanie and Shawna, is that we get point of views from both the hero and heroine. There was a scene near the end of the book that leaves you holding your breath. That scene alone made the book for me. You could see right then and there everything made sense for Hunter and Sandy. What a wonderful story! Everyone should read it!

Melanie Shawn has been one of my favorite authors since I was introduced to her Crossroads Series, and when I got the chance to dive into a different series, The Someday Series, I dove in head first. Even though this is the fourth book in the series, I didn't mind picking up in the middle of the series because I know that all of Melanie's books can be read as standalone books.
I can't say it enough, Melanie Shawn's books just keeps getting better and better! Chasing Perfect was amazing! This love story was fun because it was based around true friendship and the love that can bloom out of that. I think what I love the most was that yes, there was crazy attraction, but the relationship was built and founded from friendship and the characters realizing that what they have been searching for has been in front of them all along. The Someday Series is built around a younger, more risque group of people, which is a change from Melanie's other books, yet just as hot and lovable. Melanie Shawn has an ability to keep their readers engaged in the story. They make you want to live with these people and be friends with them. All of Melanie's books always have the perfect blend of romance, heat and plot.

This can be ready as a standalone novel, even though reading just this book will not be enough, you will have to read the entire series!

Sandy and Hunter have been best friends since elementary school. Sandy and her twin, Brandy, have not had an easy life dealing with the death of their father and their alcoholic, abusive mother. Hunter has been there for Sandy through it all. Sandy denies any romantic feeling for Hunter because her fairy tale is to swept off her feet by tall, dark, and mysterious. Mystery guy will understand what a great person she is and they will move away from her small town. Hunter wants to continue to live in their small town and will do anything to remain in her life, even as her friend. That does not stop misunderstandings from happening between them.

Sandy and Hunter are a wonderful couple in friendship and as romantic partners, but Sandy only sees damage to their friendship and the deep down feeling that he will leave her, as had every other person in her life. Both are fresh out of high school and the setting and atmosphere was perfect for the characters’ age. A fun, light read with just enough drama to keep you guessing.

I loved this book. Hunter is now my new favorite book boyfriend. He has it all and then some. He loved Sandy so much and would have done anything for her. The beginning of the book tugged at my heartstrings for many reasons. It was very sad for both Hunter and Sandy. As you read through the book you begin to unravel their story and find out why what took place in the prologue happened. This book is a very fast, funny, heartbreaking and heart stopping. It gives you an insight into how easy it is to lose something that is so special for no real reason at all but being misunderstood in the moment. I loved the story for so many reasons and the only frustrating part of the book is that Brandy’s book (Sandy’s twin sister) will not be out until November 2016. I don’t know if I can wait that long!! Pick up this book and give it a try. You will not be disappointed.

Because sometimes what you need has been with you all along.

Chasing Perfect is labeled as a New Adult romance, I also thought it's a great second chance romance too. Sandy and Hunter have been best friends since kindergarten. They have seen each other through good times and bad. Watching each other grown and change. While Hunter knew he always wanted Sandy, it took her a bit longer for her emotions to catch up with his.

I liked the easy and caring friendship that Hunter and Sandy had. It's because of their close friendship that the pair worked so well as lovers.

The authors did a good job portraying a wide range of emotions between Sandy and Hunter. I had a constant nervousness in my belly waiting for this pair to get on the same page.

This is a standalone novel but the author left us with a lot to think about . A 5th novel will be out next year.

What a great addition to the Someday series. Not surprised at all that Melanie Shawn put out another great, hot and fun read. You don't have to read the series in order to understand what's going in this book. It can be read as a stand alone but if you haven't read the series, you should. It's so good!

This book is about Sandy and Hunter and they have been best friend since elementary school. They have shared so many amazing times together and dealt with bad ones. Fast forward to high school graduation, in one night they cross the line and their friendship and relationships change. Their youth and inexperience tears them apart. Fate has a way of bring two people who clearly belong together.

I really enjoyed this book and can't rave enough about Melanie Shawn's writing style.
I highly recommend this book and any books written by them.

Sandy and Hunter have been best friends since first grade. Hunter has never hid his feelings for Sandy, but Sandy has always kept those feelings at arms length. That is, until the night of high school graduation. They give in to their feelings and sleep together. Sandy brushes it off as no big deal and hurts Hunter's feelings so much he leaves for college the next day before she has a chance to apologize. Now fast forward ten months. Sandy and her twin sister Brandy are supposed to have a once in a lifetime spring break trip, but Brandy backs out at the last minute. Hunter picks that exact time to return and try to work his way back in to Sandy's life so he decides to take Brandy's place. Can he win Sandy back within the deadline of spring break? You have to read to find out just how that turns out. I really enjoyed this book.

There's something about a Melanie Shawn book that you just can't describe. Whatever it is, it hooks you in those first few pages, few paragraphs even. It makes you not want to put it down until you've finished it. Chasing Perfect definitely has It. Even though this book isn't something that would regularly gravitate towards since the characters are a little younger than I normally read, I still really enjoyed it. There are a few authors out there where I'd read anything they wrote, Melanie Shawn is one (two) of them. Pick this book up today and follow along as Hunter and Sandy discover that sometimes what you think you've always wanted can change when you find your true love. When that person becomes your home and geography no longer matters, life together can be an adventure.

Sandy and Hunter have been friends since the first grade. Hunter is Sandy’s best friend and rock, he is the person who has helped her through a very difficult childhood and seen her at her worst. Sandy firmly believes that she needs to keep Hunter firmly in the friend zone. However, one special night after graduation changes everything for both of them. I loved reading this story! I loved it so much that I read it in one afternoon/evening. This is a great story about two people weathering the ups and downs of life and finding that the person that is their better half. This is a standalone book but I would highly recommend reading the 3 stories other stories in this series. It’s a great series and I can’t wait for the next installment

This is a young adult story that starts with two friends celebrating after their high school graduation. They get hot and steamy right away but Sandy doesn’t want to ruin her friendship. Hunter wants more than just friendship. So these two part ways for the summer and part of their freshman college experience. What happens when they reconnect? IT IS HOT!!!!

While I enjoyed the story line and the characters some of the language was bold. I still think it is a great read and that any college aged girl could relate to what is happening to Sandy.

I have not read the rest of the series so this can be a stand alone book. I do look forward to reading it all soon.

Sandy and Hunter have been friends since they were little. No matter what they always had each other. After high school graduation they took their relationship to a whole new level that they weren't prepared for and it split them apart.

Sandy has always had a plan on where and who she was going to end up with in her life.

They reconnect while taking a trip over spring break. After Sandy has a serious accident she realizes Hunter is everything she will ever need.

Hunter has been in love with Sandy their whole life and had disappeared from Sandy's life due to her 'lack of feelings' for him.

I loved this book. We followed Sandy/Hunter while they grew up, grew apart and came back together in young adulthood.

Hunter and Sandy have been best friends forever..
Hunter has loved her since the day he laid his eyes on her, but he never made a move on her, as he doesn't want to lose her as a friend..
Sandy grew up with an abusive, alcoholic mother..Now she wants to get as far away from her hometown as possible and forget the past.. She has her heart and mind set on the perfect guy, far away from the hurt and pain... Not realising that the "perfect" man was right under her nose, the whole time..
What can I say, I love every book I have read by Melanie Shawn..

Chasing Perfect was one of the "steamiest" books in the Someday series that this reader has read by the sister duo author team of Melanie Shawn. A book full of heartache and drama for the characters within. Hunter's character was more heartfelt while Sandy appeared to have a whole lot more emotional baggage to face, which kept her character emotionally distanced from Hunter. Sandy and Hunter together were dramatic one moment and sweet the next and their high-jinx kept this reader entertained throughout :)
Another great read in the Someday series.

Chasing Perfect is a sweet, but sexy, story of childhood friends turned to lovers.

Sandy is Avery outgoing heroine, who seems to be just having fun while growing up. Her character was overall likable, with a bit of a wild streak to her. Hunter is an awesome hero, who's crazy protective of his bestie. It was nice to see them reunite and work through their feelings after a night of fun turned to a night of hurt for both of them. I'm not usually a huge New Adult fan, but I am so glad I took a chance on this.

I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a great New adult read

Another wonderful story from Melanie Shawn. Chasing Perfect is part of their Someday Series, but can be read as a standalone. It's written in alternating first person, which is always harder for me to read (a personal quirk), but was well done in Shawn's typical voice. The characters are in college, so they're younger than the typical contemporary romance. But you get a great book regardless. Friends to lovers is always a good story in my opinion. Looking forward to more from Melanie Shawn.

Received and ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Love MS and their writing style. This books feels a bit more stilted than any of their books. I love the relationship and gritty reality of life but Sandy and Hunter feel more childish than most. Great book and CANNOT wait for the next in the series!
