From his very first glance at doe-eyed Dr. Erin Ryan, desire gripped millionaire rancher Hazard Wilde. But that didn't mean he'd signed up for family and forever. He believed in land, family legacy. . . and passion. Nothing more. A veterinarian, Erin was there to unravel the mysterious illness that had descended upon his herd, and if they found pleasure in an embrace or a kiss, well, that was only temporary! She was intellect and soft curves; he was saddle smarts and rough edges. But as passion engulfed them, danger crept closer. Seems the trouble with his cattle was no accident. . . and evil threatened Erin next. Was the resounding drumbeat of Hazard's heart a noble determination to protect a lady in peril. . . or was it love?
Ruth Ryan Langan (aka Ruth Langan) is an award-winning author of romance novels. She is a Romantic Times Career Achievement Award winner and has twice been nominated for Romantic Times Reviwers' Choice Awards, for Jade and Return of the Prodigal Son. She has spent much of her career writing historical romance novels for the Harlequin Historicals line of category romances. Many of her book are set in medieval times, while others are western romances. She has also written some contemporary romances, and often includes elements of suspense in her novels.
Langan began her writing career in secret. Her family discovered her writings when her children came home unexpectedly from school one day and found her writing. When Langan's husband was told of her hobby, he bought her an electric typewriter "because 'writers need tools'". Her first book was published by Silhouette Books in 1981 after an editor picked it out of their slush pile. After the first sale was completed, Langan got an agent.
Langan is a charter member of the Romance Writers of America. She has five children and lives with her husband in Michigan.
Hazard is the middle brother and the one who loves the ranch and animals the most and an experiment of his has gone wrong and as a result of it he calls on the expertise of the heroine. The heroine is a researcher born to academically brilliant parents but her upbringing left her socially inept and so did her prodigy status. Seeing the hero and the close bonds he shares with his family is very different for her and she likes it. We see her blossom in many ways and so does the romance rather quickly. I loved how the hero was so gentle with her at first and aware of her inexperience. They don't hide their feelings and we are made aware of the fact that they are falling in love. Several components of the book reminded me of the first book of the series which is not a bad thing. I can't wait to read Ace's book.
Hazard is my favorite! He's the hard-working, serious brother who plays by the rules and wants what is best for his family. Calling in reinforcements to help him with his dying cattle brings him the last thing he wants. Dr. Erin Ryan plays by the rules so much so that she has no friends and has never had a relationship. When she's called to help Hazard she gets a very eye opening experience. Together these two are electronic and when they go after the bad guy they are unstoppable.
The Wildes of Wyoming-Hazard by Ruth Langan is a great read. Ms Langan has delivered a well written book. Erin and Hazard's story is loaded with suspense, humor and lovable characters. I enjoyed the book and look forward to reading more from Ruth Langan in the future. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
