The daughter of a town marshal, Linda Lael Miller is a #1 New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author of more than 100 historical and contemporary novels, most of which reflect her love of the West. Raised in Northport, Washington, Linda pursued her wanderlust, living in London and Arizona and traveling the world before returning to the state of her birth to settle down on a spacious property outside Spokane.
Linda traces the birth of her writing career to the day when a Northport teacher told her that the stories she was writing were good, that she just might have a future in writing. Later, when she decided to write novels, she endured her share of rejection before she sold Fletcher’s Woman in 1983 to Pocket Books. Since then, Linda has successfully published historicals, contemporaries, paranormals, mysteries and thrillers before coming home, in a literal sense, and concentrating on novels with a Western flavor. For her devotion to her craft, the Romance Writers of America awarded her their prestigious Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007.
Long a passionate Civil War buff, Linda has studied the era avidly for almost thirty years. She has read literally hundreds of books on the subject, explored numerous battlegrounds and made many visits to her favorite, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, where she has witnessed re-enactments of the legendary clash between North and South. Linda explores that turbulent time in The Yankee Widow, a May 7, 2019 MIRA Books hardcover, also available in digital and audiobook formats.
Dedicated to helping others, “The First Lady of the West” personally financed fifteen years of her Linda Lael Miller Scholarships for Women, which she awarded to women 25 years and older who were seeking to improve their lot in life through education. She anticipates that her next charitable endeavors will benefit four-legged critters.

I thought these were actually short stories and didn't realize that they are all just the first few chapters of books. The Linda Lael Miller story was awesome. A couple of the others were good as well, and I'm going to find the books and finish them. I didn't like the Lindsey McKenna book, I'd already read it. And I just don't care for Diana Palmer, I bailed on that story.

Found a new author or so to read, but 3 or 4 chapters of each is unsatisfactory.

Slater Carter was exhausted as he was after every film wrapped- 160 Acres. Slater had already received great reviews and received prizes from previous projects. Slater had went home to rest and regroup. A red headed woman had come to his home with a boy who had stolen a magnetic panel from the company’s productive truck. The woman had been the boy’s stepmother. The boy appeared to be about fourteen. The woman’s name was Grace and was now divorced and she was an ex cop. But now she ran the The Bliss River Resort and Spa. Ryder’s- the boy- father was in the military and overseas. Then after awhile Slater Productions had reserved fifteen of the best rooms at the resort that Grace ran and it would cost tens of thousands of dollars to Slater Productions when all was said and done. Grace had been hurt before and didn’t want involved with men she considered beautiful and Slater fit that description.
This was the first sample of the sampler and there are four more stories I enjoyed and am interested in reading the whole stories of the samplers. I felt all the samplers were well written and had a good plot. I of course had favorites but will wait to read the whole stories before giving any kind of review. I recommend you you read this stories you may find a new author to follow out of these samples and summaries.
I received an ARC of this story for an honest review.

This is a fantastic sampler that includes summaries and samples from each of the above author’s books.

The author’s included are some of the finest and most popular authors in the Western genre. Also, I am happy they include an author, Trish Millburn, who is unknown to me. And I greatly appreciate that the editors of this sampler is offered to anybody for no cost.

I wish there were other samplers for other genres – especially in the romance genre. I certainly hope they offer more samplers for future Western books.

I even got a few that I had not read the author work which now has me wanting to pick up a few more from them. I thought each story was better than the last and look forward to picking up and reading more from them. This was a very good buy and is free….

Looks like a fun array of new stories will be coming out by these authors.

I was especially intrigued by Hard Silence by Mia Kay. What a unique story idea with realistic characters. I can't wait to read the rest of Mia Kay's story!
