The Prayer of Jabez Bible Study reveals how to make praying the Jabez prayer a lifetime habit. Readers will broaden their understanding of the four components of the Jabez prayer ("bless me; enlarge my borders; keep Your hand upon me; keep me from evil") by investigating key scriptural passages and learning how to apply them to their lives. Graphics and lighthearted illustrations make this innovative, four-week study impactful and fun. An eighty-page Leader's Edition with two additional, optional sessions is also available.

It is a VERY quick read (Few hours) but I felt like it could have been said even shorter. I can see how boldly asking God in prayer for things can come across like the prosperity gospel. There is more to God than money. More to life than things. However he points out asking God for more in all areas. Not just 'blessings'. And blessings often have a trial within them.
He likens prayer to standing by a river asking for a cup of water each day when you could just jump in the river. He reminds us that we are to look for opportunities to minister to others. For me, it reignited the expectation that God would send me a special opportunity to do just that when I asked. I have experienced that kind of ask/receive result before and realized in reading this that I was not praying or expecting (to serve) as boldly as I had been.
I liked his section about 'descending to power' and the reminder that instead of praying for us to be strong in during temptation, why not pray to have temptation removed from your path altogether...
They were simple tidbits but worthwhile. Parts of it reminded me of Henry Blackaby's 'Experiencing God' --maybe it was simply setting the expectation with the reminder to go to work when God showed up and gave you your answers. I liked it and might thumb through it again. :)
This book and study guide really gets to the core of prayer. Why we pray, how we pray, and a guide to opening your heart to pray if you are not consistent in prayer.
I had not considered praying with such intention. I am currently working through the workbook and will start reading this again in 2 weeks. I have found myself asking the Lord to bless me indeed.
Short and sweet. This book will help you demystify the prayer process. It helps the reader realize prayer need not be eloquent or full of "thuses" or "thou's". It simply needs to be genuine and from the heart.
The Prayer of Jabez: Bible Study by Bruce Wilkinson (Multnomah Books 2001)(242.722). The prayer itself is simple and sweet. May our lives be as well. My rating: 7/10, finished 1/1/2001.
A great study that encourages internal dialogue about a very simple, yet incredibly powerful prayer. I've read through it and continue to work through it, day to day.
