It’s so clear this was meant to be an episode of TV. And while it’s still good, it’s but a shell of what it could’ve been had Disney not pulled the plug on the original show.

Now I know many people say that THE PHANTOM MENACE was a throwaway movie, but it gave us Darth Maul, and for that, I’ll forgive it a transgression or two. Darth Maul is probably my favorite Star Wars villain. Full of silent rage, a double-ended saber, the most acrobatic fighting style aside from Yoda…he’s just plain awesome. I was actually a little sad to see him meet the imminent villain end.

Thank goodness for Star Wars technology, though, which ensures that if you lose a limb…or half of your body…you can always just replace it with robot parts.

In this graphic novel, broken into four parts, Darth Sidious wants Mother Talzin, who is responsible for Maul’s resurrection. When Darth Maul escapes him, he retreats to his Shadow Collective army. The Sith hope that he will lead them to Mother Talzin. Of course, through all of this there are light saber battles, crossing, double-crossing, and everything else we’ve come to expect.

They’ve packed a lot into approximately forty minutes of graphic novel reading. Readers who haven’t watched THE CLONE WARS television show will have some catching up to do, and may find themselves feeling a little lost. However, anyone familiar with Episodes I and II should be able to keep up.

This book contains battle violence, but is otherwise clean reading.

This is getting intense between Maul, Grievous and Dooku. The fight scenes are cool and I liked the inclusion of the Nightbrothers, who we barely got to see in the Clone Wars series when the characters visited Dathomir. Mother Talzin is an interesting character and I wish we saw a little more of her, not just with Maul, Savage and Ventress (I know Grievous, Dooku, Obi-Wan and Anakin also interacted with her at some point in the Clone Wars series.)

Darth Maul makes a call to his mommy (mother Talzin) and asks for guidance. Obviously, the mamma's boy, Maul is given instructions for capturing Dooku and Grievous. Dooku and Grievous have other plans including vengeance against Talzin. How will mommy help Maul? Will Dooku and Grievous have their vengeance? Will Maul see his mommy? You must read to find out!

'Worst' in the 4-comic series spread, but still damn good. - 4 out of 5 star rating.

This is the inevitable 'sag in the middle', but still awesome Maul content.

At the time of this review, I have finished all 4 comics. This being the 'least enjoyable' of them all, resonates loudly how awesome Son of Dathomir is. Barlow knocked this series out of the park.

8.1/10. Much better than the last one. Again this was pretty much nothing but action and strategy, but it was at least entertaining action and strategy. Seeing various forces team up and try to outwit one another provided some momentum for the book, and seeing Dooku take on a tribe of Night-Brothers, the combined armies of Dark Shadow crew, the Black Sun, and the Pykes take on the separatist army, and Maul board Grievous's ship was all enjoyable Star Wars-y fun. Plus the art continues to be a real highlight and comes to the fore in stories like this. Shame this wasn't animated into a real episode.

Awesome

When darth maul was captured in the clone wars cartoon, I was disappointed that they did nothing with it, but this comic is the story behind it. I thoroughly enjoyed the first two and look forward to the rest!

Still a new comic reader

Another great story. Very pleased and excited. I am hopeful to see what comes from Darth maul's mother in future stories. Now I just need some good light saber battles and I will be hooked. Time for book #3.

Love it

The only thing I dislike is that it's so short... but I love me some Darth Maul

Needed 3 more words, here are 7

FINAL RATING: 3.5 OUT OF 5 STARS

Ohh myyyy...things have been getting a lot more interesting as the tension between a cyborg Separatist General, a Sith Count, and Darth Maul (now a renegade) start heating up!

The artwork in this issue was just as great if not better than the previous. The coloring is resplendent and visually attractive without coming off as ostentatious like some other episodic comics I've read.

The dialogue however, is kinda cliche so I'm hoping it gets better as we move along.

Still, I'm really digging this series! I cannot wait to read the 3rd.

I thought this was a good extension of the Maul story line from Clone Wars
