Bruce Wilkinson is recognized as one of the world's foremost Christian teachers and speakers. But he is best known as the author of the New York Times #1 bestseller, The Prayer of Jabez, and other bestsellers including A Life God Rewards, Secrets of the Vine, and The Dream Giver. He is the founder of WorldTeach, a global initiative to train Bible teachers in every nation. Wilkinson also founded Dream for Africa, a humanitarian agency that has taken on AIDS, orphan care and hunger in sub-Saharan Africa. Bruce and his wife, Darlene, have three children and six grandchildren. They live outside Atlanta.
I felt like some of this didn't make sense, but a lot of topics solidified in my brain when they were explained that helped me understand Christianity better.
My dad gifted me this book some years ago.... took a while to get through all of it but it was an enjoyable easy to read and engaging book. It does help one to better align their faith and prayers...And it fits most of the stuff I'd pray for as a teen and the stuff I needed to understand as a Christian teen. Wish I still had the print copy so I can reread (one of my High school bffs absconded with it)
This is a book everyone everywhere should read-- it always encourages me SO MUCH to keep pressing further up and further in and believe that NOTHING is too big for God and just AHHH. I have far too many words all at once and that is why I don't write reviews. READ IT.
A readable little book that explores Jabez's prayer asking God to enlarge his wisdom, understanding, humility, patience, love and joy and keep him from evil so that it will bring glory to God. Some people criticize this as advocating the prosperity doctrine but I did not think that was implied at all.
there are some pretty good messages in this book. and its a short read. the pages after the last chapter provide a summary of the book so you can go back to those pages for a refresher after reading. i liked it
Short, fast read. To the point. Good book for teens. Well, for anyone. Love the message and the prayer: Here it is:
"Oh, that you would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!"
Pretty much covers every life necessity.
It asks God to bless you (you can ask for anything and God will grant what you need); you ask to enlarge your territory (you are asking God to put you in a position to reach other people in a Christian way and impact others in His name); you ask for His hand to be with you (you ask God never to leave you alone); you ask to be kept from evil (banish Satan from you life.....and how to do it); and you ask not to cause pain (you want to be shown how to live a positive life).
Jabez is mentioned once in the Bible: 1 Corinthians 4:9.
Got this for my son's bday on May 6. And, duh, I found it at Goodwill. Previous owner must not have read it.......looks absolutely brand new.
Could not resist reading it. Glad I did. Read in less than an hour. Perfect.
Enlightening. Full of new perspectives and a powerful prayer. Read it, but don't fall into the trap of thinking the prayer is some sort of magic spell/charm that's a cure-all for everything. Taking God's grace for granted is a dangerous thing. But I've just started praying like this, and I've seen many little miracles. It's also important to be thankful INDEED for the blessings you receive! (May 2008)
An light, sweet book that could be a wake up call for some of us. It's about having the bravery to pray for big things that you believe would benefit God's kingdom. you could really easily misinterpret this book, though.
This is a spiritual story of boosting a teenage esteem in sharing God's Word. I'm very inspired by this to have a huge faith even in my young age. Nothing's impossible with God as long as you believe and trust Him. In that case, you can share His Word with a totally-empowered Holy Spirit!
I read this book when I was a teen. It was given to me by my pastor. It was such a great book. I used to it write speeches when I spoke at youth conferences and I feel like the youth really understood it and could apply it to their spiritual lives.
It was a good book. Amazing how much more I learnt from those two verses (1 Chronicles 4:9-10). Wilkinson did a wonderful job breaking down the verses and really explaining what it means and how we (teens) can practically apply it. Definitely recommend it. It will surely add to your prayer life.
This is a quick read, but a very powerful reminder to pray and ask God to bless you, protect you, and help you grow his kingdom through the gifts he gives. It is not too "fluffy" but is pretty practical in how to go about using the prayer of Jabez in the Old Testament as a model for prayer.
The author took the prayer of Jabez, broke it down easily and explained every part of it.A good book for teens and someone who is young in Christ just learning how to pray.
I just finished reading this book to my children. It's a really good book for teens to read. After reading the book I posted 1 Chronicles 4:10 on my wall and made it my children's next memory verse.
