Sweet Jesus

This book is so good...make me want get a quick divorce...find Whiskey Row Tennessee...grab me one of them country boys....this book will keep your skivvies wet till the end....Jack and Noelle's story will have you drooling for more...with a cast of characters diverse and very very hot and sexy...the Sullivan brothers will have you panting for more...the next installment will probably be Darby and Avery...let's see if it'll top the hotness of Jack and Noelle...there are errors that could be easily overlooked ...it's also very funny and endearing.

I could write an entire dissertation on this book, but I don't have the energy. Just know it's a complete story, albeit a long one if you love sagas.

Sweet Obsession is the introduction to the Men of Whiskey Row series. While the story focuses on the love of Jack Sullivan and Noelle Kramer, you will also meet the other two brothers Darby and Casey as well as Noelle's BFFs Avery and Sidra, who all get their own stories.

This story is beautifully written and extremely detailed. If you have a short attention span, get ya mind right before reading because everything, and I mean everything, that is written will have some significance in any of the subsequent books in the series. For that reason, I suggest you start here before reading any of the other books.

By the time you finish, you'll be torn (or maybe not) as to whom your favorite Sullivan brother is. It's Jack. No, Casey. No, Jack...😩

All of the books are available on Kindle Unlimited. Once you start, you will have to keep knowing what happens next because each book picks up directly from the last. Soooo good...

This is my my first book by this author and I read this book with Kindle Unlimited and then I brought this book for my library.

This is Noelle Kramer and Jack Sullivan's story and I love this couple. In their story we get to meet Noelle's girlfriends and Jack's brothers and there is something for everyone.

This book was the BOMB I absolutely loved reading it. Its a long read over 400 pages plus. Reading this book was like eating delicious food it was just that good. I would highly recommend this book and I cannot wait for the other brothers stories to be told. This is a MUST READ!

Highly recommended.

This is the typical accidental/arranged marriage insta-love romance, complete with race issues and class disparities. Seems like the author put every trope in here: abusive childhood, blackmail, extreme alpha male, crazy mother, BEAUUUUUTIFUL, rich people... all of that. Nothing unique happens. You know what's coming at every turn. Well, there really are no turns, but you know what I mean. Characters are 2-dimensional, plot is recycled. None of these are deal breakers for me though. I can read the same story over and over again as long as it's done well.

However, this is the perfect example of how "self-published" should not equal "self-edited". I've read some negative comments on missing punctuation, continuity issues and such and I wholeheartedly agree. You know how "there's no crying in baseball?" Well, there are no exclamation points in literature. Or parentheses (you're telling a story, you should have to explain yourself.) This book needs an actual editor to go through it and it strengthen it up. That's a paid profession for a reason. The fact that you twirl around on your tippy toes doesn't make you a ballerina. Some things require training.

Also, it's soooo stereotypical. Sassy, "curvy" black females. Whore-ish waitresses. And tell me where in the heavens you would find kids on a corner today beatboxing and breakdancing? Were they doing the Achy Breaky Heart across town? Seriously, please respond to this if you live in such a place. I'll head there on Throwback Thursday.

Unfortunately, I was too distracted by errors and not invested enough in the story to finish. The only reason I give this two stars is because, for some reason, I can feel the author's enthusiasm about these characters jump off the page. That's why it's a shame it's so sloppy.

Hooked ,Line And Holding On!!!

To say this story was good is such an understatement. This story was so good that as soon as I got to the end I started all over again. This was not only drama done right but it was done so very well. There so much chemistry between Jack and Noelle that you could feel it leap from the pages. There was such excellent chemistry with all the characters it was like coming home to old friends. This is a first with this writer I so look forward to the telling of the next installment of the (Men of Whiskey Row). Now my one ding was that the editing while not bad it wasn't stellar. With a story this good and I'm sure what is going to be an excellent series I look forward to the editing done right.

I bought this book because the story line sounded like a good one; in addition, there was a large number of reviews, and most of them were 4 and 5 star reviews. The book could have been a good one, but there were SO many errors: missing words, bad punctuation, incomplete sentences, and so many inconsistencies (Jack says that he's 10 years older than Noelle, and a couple of paragraphs later, their birth dates show that he's 6 years older; Darby is given one middle name, then 2 sentences later, he has a different middle name). The poor editing frustrated me to no end. I was sorely tempted to stop reading, but I stuck with it, because I wanted to see what would happen. I will admit that I'd love to know what happens with the other characters, but I'm probably going to pass on the rest of the series.

Strong Great story

The Sullivan brothers were shaped by the murder/ suicide of their mother Moira by their father. With the help of Alexei and Vivian Romankov, and Dr. Kraus, they grew up to be strong, successful independent men, except where it came to love. The legacy their father left on them, almost kept them from finding and keeping true love. That's what happened to each one of the brothers, but especially Jackson. He knew when he first saw Noelle Kramer that she would be his, but the ghost of his father's obsession with his mother kept him at a distance. But, when the chance came to rescue her, he did not hesitant. But he omitted some truths to her and when she found out, he could not take the rejection. He almost lost her but ended up gaining the most happiest time of his life with her forgiveness and love.

His brothers Darby and Casey had their own love interests that were not going as they planned either. The death of Moira also affected the marriage of her best friend and her husband. Vivian, after all these years, still could not forgive "Lexie" for not going to Moira's aid before it was too late. He more than made up for it by helping to raise her sons. But he was still very much in love with his estranged wife and so wanted to reunite with her.

I just loved the relationships the brothers had with each other and their friends of Whiskey Row. Noelle, Sidra, and Avery had a very tight and supportive bond as well. I can't wait to see how the other two brothers get their lady loves now that the oldest and found his HEA.

I can't wait to read the next book in the series. The twist and turns of the plot were enough to make me scratch my head. I just loved the banter between the brothers and their buddies. Also, Noelle and her girlfriends remind me of how most close women are with each other. The author tells an in-depth and eye-opening story of how domestic abuse affects others in a way that lasts a lifetime even long after the abuser is long gone. I'm hoping to see that Jackson's brothers are able to see that they are worthy of love too and get their HEA as well, along with Avery and Sidra.

NOTE: This book was re-read and listened to in cojunction with Audible.com.

It would have been 5 stars

It would have been 5 stars except for the grammar mistakes. I really loved this book. There was good depth to the characters and good story building. I'm even looking forward to more books featuring the secondary characters. With that said, this book could have benefited from a better editor. Maybe it's nitpicking, but "your" and "you're" are not interchangeable, neither is "their" and "they're". Things like that can distract from an otherwise enjoyable book, at least to people like me. That's the only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5.

This was my first read by this author and I really did enjoy it......Jack and Noelle made a GREAT couple.....they both had some issues to over come but all in all it was a good story....The only problem I had with this book was that there was so much information given on the secondary characters in the book.....I get that this was the first book of the series and the author was setting the tone for the other stories but IMHO this book was about a 150 pages too long.....

Some grammatical errors but definitely not a bad read for the authors first book. I loved all the characters (especially Casey and Sidra gah I have such a thing for the hate/love trope) and I can't wait to read the rest in the series. 4 solid stars just because I was entertained for all the tropes this book employed.

Reading Sweet Obsession felt like stepping onto a rollercoaster where the only rule is “Hold on tight, and maybe grab a fan!” D.A. Young’s storytelling grabs you from page one, and by the time you’re done, you’ll be a little sweaty, a lot obsessed, and already reaching for the next book like it’s a lifeline.

Let’s talk about Jack Sullivan and Noelle Kramer. These two are so hot together, I’m convinced they could turn a polar vortex into a heatwave. Jack? Oh, he’s the definition of tall, dark, and dangerously handsome. He’s got that brooding, I’ve-been-through-some-things vibe that makes you want to hug him and also maybe check his abs (strictly for science, of course). And Noelle? She’s sweet but sassy, and her vulnerability makes her instantly relatable—you’ll want to be her best friend, but also maybe shout “Girl, don’t fall for the brooding hunk!” (Spoiler: She totally does, and we’re all better for it).

Now, if you think this book is just two people making steamy eye contact across the room, think again. The chemistry between Jack and Noelle is so intense, it practically fries the pages. I was flipping through chapters faster than Jack could flash his irresistible grin. They’re electric, and when they’re not setting things on fire (figuratively, of course... mostly), the banter is sharp enough to cut glass. I caught myself cackling at their witty back-and-forth, especially when the Sullivan brothers and Noelle’s squad jump in with their sass and sarcasm. You’ll want to hang out with these people—they’re like the Avengers, but hotter and with better one-liners.

Drama? Oh, there’s drama, alright. But it’s the kind that keeps you on your toes in the best way, like “Oh no, what now?” but also “Give me more!” The Sullivans' tragic backstory adds so much emotional depth, and when Jack goes full-on protective mode over Noelle... swoon! It’s hero mode activated, and yes, you’ll be chanting, “Get her, Jack!” like it’s a championship game.

Also, shoutout to Whiskey Row. I’m pretty sure D.A. Young is secretly moonlighting as a travel agent because I’m ready to book a one-way ticket to Tennessee. The town, the people, the intrigue—I’m invested. And don’t even get me started on Jack’s brothers. I’m already lining up for the sequel because Darby and Casey are clearly brewing up their own spicy romances, and let me tell you, I’m here for it.

The only downside? A few small editing hiccups, but honestly, I was so engrossed in the story that they didn’t even slow me down. And yes, this book is long (400+ pages), but trust me when I say, every single word is worth it. You’ll be flipping those pages so fast, you’ll have finger cramps, but in the best possible way.

Oh, and did I mention the spice? The steam level in this book is a solid 4 out of 5, and when I say the heat between Jack and Noelle is real, I mean you might want to read this one in front of a fan—or with a bucket of ice water nearby. Just saying.

In short, Sweet Obsession is a must-read if you’re into steamy, emotional romance with characters that feel real enough to step off the page. D.A. Young has created a world that sucks you in and doesn’t let go until you’ve laughed, cried, and probably needed a cold shower.

Highly recommend. 5 stars and a whole lot of heat! 🔥

Main Characters:
Jack Sullivan: The ultimate brooding, sexy leading man. He’s strong, successful, and a little damaged from his past. Jack is the kind of guy who doesn’t do love—at least, he doesn’t think he does until Noelle enters his life.

Noelle Kramer: Sweet, sassy, and relatable. She’s vulnerable from her own emotional scars but determined to stand on her own two feet. Her journey throughout the book is one of self-discovery, confidence, and, of course, falling for Jack.

Supporting Characters:
The Sullivan Brothers: Jack’s siblings, who each bring their own personalities to the table. They’re a tight-knit family with a tragic backstory that adds depth to the romance.
Noelle’s Girlfriends: A lively, diverse group of women who support Noelle through her ups and downs, providing plenty of humor and sass. They’re fun, fierce, and the perfect contrast to the intensity of the romance.

Plot Summary:
The book kicks off with Jack and Noelle meeting under tense but steamy circumstances. Jack is all about control and keeping his emotions locked down, while Noelle is a bit more vulnerable but still fiercely independent.

Their attraction is instant, but Jack is a commitment-phobe due to his past, and Noelle is wary of getting involved with someone so emotionally unavailable.

Despite their differences, the chemistry between them is undeniable, and they slowly get pulled into each other’s orbit.

Along the way, we get glimpses into Jack’s complicated family history, which involves heartbreak, loss, and a lot of emotional baggage that impacts how he handles relationships.

Noelle’s journey is about finding herself and overcoming the hurdles of her past relationships. Her character growth is about reclaiming her power, both in life and in love.

The tension and emotional stakes keep rising as Jack and Noelle try to navigate their feelings. When Jack finally opens up, it’s a heart-melting moment that will leave readers swooning.

Themes:
Love and Redemption: Both characters are working through past emotional pain, and through each other, they find healing and love.

Family: The Sullivan family dynamic is central to the plot. Jack’s brothers are all set up for future romances, and their bond adds emotional depth.

Strength and Vulnerability: Noelle’s strength and Jack’s emotional vulnerability make for a captivating balance as they help each other grow.

Tone:
Steamy & Romantic: The romance between Jack and Noelle is sizzling, with plenty of sexual tension.
Emotional: The characters’ emotional backstories bring depth to the story, balancing the heat with heart.

Humorous: The banter between Jack, Noelle, and the supporting cast keeps things light and fun, even amidst the drama.

Length:
Over 400 pages, which means there’s plenty of time for the plot to develop and for readers to fully immerse themselves in the world of Whiskey Row.
Spice Level:

Rated 4/5 for steamy scenes and intense chemistry. The heat is there, but it’s balanced with plot and character development.

Cliffhanger:
Yes, but it’s the kind that leaves you desperate for the next book, not frustrated. You’ll want to see what happens with other characters (like Darby and Casey) and how Jack and Noelle’s story continues to unfold.

All in all, Sweet Obsession blends steamy romance with emotional depth and plenty of drama, creating a book that will keep you hooked until the very last page.

The book is filled with dramatic twists and conflicts (family, exes, and emotional baggage galore), but it all leads to a beautifully intense romance with Jack stepping up to be the hero we always knew he could be.

Another one-simple-conversation-would-fix-everything read but relatively enjoyable.
Author lays it on WAY thick with how perfect every single man in this family and all their friends are. And how down they are for their women or whoever they fall for from day 1. We also get beat over the head with how the the heroine and all HER friends are superior to all other women on canvas. She make the other women encountered over the top skanky, irritating or dumb. It gets to be a bit one note. The voice actress is AWFUL, the male counterpart a bit better. Was all I could do to focus on the story and not the horribly over the top southern accents and her awfully executed inflections.
And please..PLEASE stop talking about black women flushing and blushing. Sure, we can. We run the gamut of shades. But its not common enough to have it be a repeated thing book after book with every heroine. Especially not to the extent of constant references to "a becoming flush" or "flushing prettily". This shit has to stop.

I did enjoy the fact that she gave these guys some soul without going over the top with it. You can tell they were raised amongst a diverse community. Thats appreciated. Also the friendship between the female friends group had a lot of enjoyable back and forth that made me think about me and my own friends. I'd give it 3.5 stars honestly but its not enough for a 4, so 3 it is.

I have submitted this review after listening to the audiobook of this title within the series set box. (Audible Membership)

They both fell in love with each other the day of her twenty-first birthday. However, neither made a move until many years later.
She had to grow into herself, know her own worth, and seek her own independence before he could think her mature enough for them.
He, on the other hand, bided his time, kept an eye on her, and helped her from a distance.

Even then, there were potholes in the golden brick road to HEA.

Good biracial romance

Good read, characters are likable and the flow of the book was good. Only annoying thing is the introduction of the other characters whom I’m guessing got their own books, the author went into so much details about the other characters that I don’t think I need to eve read their stories.

Meh

*2.5*

The chemistry between Jack and Noelle is pretty good. Jack is a typical alpha male with deep seated issues from his childhood that whilst he does work on this throughout his past, it comes to a head in 'Sweet Obsession'. Noelle, on the other hand, is your rich girl that deals with feelings of inadequacy compared to her immediate family and being deemed the outcast of her family.

I mostly had issues with the flow of the book, it felt so slow and drawn out. This is the first book of the series, it is a given that many characters will be introduced to help generate interest for upcoming books in the series.

However, having full chapters of the happenings between eventual couples (Casey and Sidra; Avery and Darby) just takes away from the book and makes it feel like a drag. I would have preferred if these couples were only minimally touched upon like Kat and Holt for example.

~

Later on in the story Noelle develops a fear of her getting her heart broken by Jack (completely normal), and decides not consummate her marriage with Jack during their honeymoon. This does not bother me, however, the way it was executed does. They basically started their relationship on sex and the feeling Noelle has just comes out of nowhere in my opinion.

All of a sudden she says she doesn't want to have sex with him because of fears that the marriage isn't real etc. it made me think I skipped a couple pages, because this feeling she has was not properly built upon it just appeared out of thin air in the middle of a chapter. It would have been better for them to abstain completely up until they got married so readers can experience a more thorough development of their feelings and budding sexual tension, more specifically, Noelle's internal battle with the idea of being in a 'fake' marriage.

Even though this book follows a lot of typical tropes, I feel that most of them were executed well to some extent and the book wraps up nicely. The epilogue also serves as another introduction to the upcoming stories of other couples.

TW: SA

One trope I absolutely hated was the blackmail trope. Remy (ex-boyfriend) finds himself in trouble and decides to blackmail Noelle using very compromising photos, Noelle states that she doesn't even remember some of the acts depicted in the photos (also not taken consensually) which brings forward the discussion that Noelle was drugged and essentially SA'ed. I feel like this was just completely brushed over in the book, wouldn't Noelle be traumatised to find out that this happened to her? Wouldn't Noelle go through emotions of no longer trusting? Wouldn't Noelle eventually start going to therapy due to what happened?

I just feel like something as serious as what was implied in 'Sweet Obsession' should be dealt with and expanded upon properly, or just not be implied at all. It makes the whole thing seem as it is a childish matter and something not to care about anymore because Remy is dead, this should not be the case.

Overall, it is an alright book but such a drag due to irrelevant chapters, I am all for long book not that this is one, but the length of the book could have easily been cut down on.

Interracial Romance A to Z Challenge: S
#PopsugarReadingChallenge2019
Prompt - A book with a title that contains "salty", "sweet", "bitter", or "spicy"

A RomCom that started off pretty decently and then went way off the rails. Two friends who are secretly in love with each other enter into a marriage of convenience when the heroine finds herself in trouble with an ex. The hero, not missing a chance to finally get the woman he loves, suggests they get married for a short time, while secretly pledging to win her heart during their marriage. Romantic hijinks ensue as they learn they've been in love with each other for years, while his two brothers and her two best friends also embark on romances of their own.

What's not to like, right? Well, I'll tell you. The damn writing. Listen, I like smut with the best of them, but the old saying "a little goes a long way" would have been appreciated here. Also, you can show that two people have a fiery intensity when their personalities clash without making them both annoying assholes just trying to out-annoy each other (and the reader).

Apart from that, the stilted dialogue, the childish secondary characters, and my general desire for the damn story to be over by 70%, it wasn't a complete waste of my time. I will probably check out the other books in the series, because I'm sure the brothers/friends are getting their own books, just to see how the series progresses. But don't hold me to that promise. ;)

This series is going to be amazing just based on this first part, I can tell. I enjoyed this story thoroughly! The background stories of the characters, how they all relate and the unbelievably hot love story between Noel and Jack. I mean, wow. But it doesn't stop there. Yes, Noel and Jack's story will blow your mind in a great way. They are a hot couple. But, LORDY, the incredibly amazing chemistry and hot love scenes between Noel's bestie and Jack's brother, Casey? Jesus! I had to read that one again haha I mean, sorry, if I am giving anything away, but man...that right there was incredibly written. Kudos to D.A. Young. I throughly enjoy this author. Really got into The Ties that Bind series and now I'm jumping feet first into the Men of Whiskey Row series which is on to a glorious start.

Awesome story

I could only give 4stars because, there were way too many grammatical errors.
Though the characters were written to be colorful and were done with pretty significant depth, I was a bit disturbed by significant issues that both main characters displayed.
Noelle was extremely self conscious & scarred by her family & their treatment of her throughout her entire life. Her self esteem was severly broken especially when Jackson was with her.
They were/are both extremly loveable characters and their story was great to read.
i recomment this book because there is a lot of depth and mystery going on. lots of characters that i'm sure will be getting their own story's.

Loved the characters and the premise. What was frustrated and what prevented me from truly enjoying this book was the author's writing style. She used flashbacks as a way of showing what's happened instead of just of just telling us in that moment. Flashbacks from earlier that day or the previous day is 100% unnecessary!!!! It completely took me out of the story. For example a scene where Noelle is opening her front door. Her friend Theo is with her. Jack opens the door and goes off on Theo. Scene moves on to something else. And then Noelle flashbacks to what happened with Jack and Theo. WTF!!!! The author does this in all of her books. It's frustrating as hell. I keep reading them because the characters and plots are good. The flashbacks are pure nonsense.

Overlapping Stories

What an awesome book. I don’t think I have read a book with so many overlapping characters and stories. The main couple, Jack and Noelle fell in love at first sight unbeknownst to each other. Jack is FIXER and PR guru with a troubled past.....Noelle is the youngest daughter of a rich political family. She is a disappointment to her mother. When a former lover blackmails her with nude pictures...Jack proposes a drastic measure...marry him and he can make the pictures disappear. We also get to see other couples in the making...Jack’s brothers, god parents, and adopted sister have stories next. This book is amazing ....can’t wait to read the next ones!!!!

Warning ⚠️: interracial romance, obsession, brothers, hot!

Narrator score🎧 ; both narrators are amazing I love them both so much they did great especially Sean with his accent 😍😍😍

Level of steam🔥: all the books are very hot. This whole series is extremely hot.

Level of anxiety and sadness 😱😢: you have some drama in each book but I don't think it is too much... it is good though so I enjoyed it.

The book itself📖: this series is great. I love it . Each character was different and sweet in its own way. The stories where good and interesting which I loved.

Ugghh DNF. This author needs an editor stat. The story was inconsistent and so so so many errors. I grew so frustrated I gave up. The author changed perspective from one character to the next multiple times in a paragraph which made it hard to get into the book. The writing was stilted and it was just....bad. I just don't understand the high ratings.
It could have been a good story with great editing but I'm not going to bother reading anymore of this series or this author for that matter.
