You are a dedicated pet owner who has put considerable time and energy into training your dog. As a result, your dog has a reliable set of behaviors such as sit, down, stay and a recall - under pristine conditions. But now you’re stumped; you’re not too sure how to get those behaviors away from home and off leash - in short; when you really need cooperation!
This book will help you gain cooperation under a range of circumstances and with only about ten minutes of training time per day! This book will take you through a systematic and comprehensive plan to get you where you want to be; with a reliable companion who cooperates off leash, away from home and….when other things are going on around you!
This book has been split into three parts:
The first part is educational. It provides information about the theory and philosophy of training. This section will be valuable for everyone, but especially if you’re the kind of person who likes to know why you’re doing something a certain way before you do it.
The second part is practical. It’s the “how-to” part of the book. Here, Denise lays out the plan you’ll be following to help your dog respond to your cues even when the world is exciting or you don’t have cookies. This portion is extremely systematic and specific.
Finally, the third part is problem-solving. It will help you troubleshoot any issues that arise. In addition, if you find that you really enjoyed the training process, it will guide you in finding more opportunities for you and your dog!
Denise Fenzi has competed in a wide range of dog sports – titling dogs in obedience (AKC and UKC), tracking (AKC and schutzhund), schutzhund (USA), mondioring (MRSA), herding (AKC), conformation(AKC) and agility (AKC). She is best known for her flashy and precise obedience work – demonstrated by two AKC OTCH dogs and perfect scores in both schutzhund and Mondio ringsport obedience.
While a successful competitor, Denise's real passion lies in training dogs; solving the problems that her own dogs and her student’s dogs present. She is a recognized expert in developing drive, motivation and focus in competition dogs, and is known internationally as an engaging speaker and an expert in no force training for sport dogs. She has consistently demonstrated the ability to train and compete with dogs using motivational methods in sports where compulsion is the norm.
In addition to training and speaking, Denise is a prolific writer. You can find her at www.denisefenzi.com where she maintains an active blog on all things related to dog training. She is also an active writer on facebook; add her as a friend or follow her there to learn more about her range of interests in addition to dog training. Finally, she recently wrote her first book with co-author, Deb Jones. That book, Dog Sports Skills Book 1: Developing Engagement and Relationship, was awarded the Dog Writers of Amercica "Book of the Year" for Behavior and Training, 2013. The second book in that series is currently being prepared for publication.
Denise thoughtfully and persistently works to break down the barriers that prevent people from obtaining a truly interactive and mutually enjoyable sport relationship with their dogs. Fenzi Academy is the culmination of her efforts; a forward step in providing progressive information to any trainer who wishes to learn.
Excellent book! Great perspective and wonderful training methods. Worked through all of these exercises with my dog. Also took a class based on these methods.
LOVE LOVE LOVE! I need a copy of this book. It showed some positive, force free training and gave different wants on how to train you to train the dog especially with distractions when you are 1 person and can't really have a 2nd person help with distractions. The book does have some instances where a 2nd person is required but i found a few things that i could do without needing a 2nd person.
This is a really good book - almost as good as Excel-erated Learning - but this book actually tells you what to do to DO the training... I will definitely use it for a couple of my current training goals. and will definitely recommend it to anyone who has any training sense and wishes to have a working plan toward their goals. Good book!
