In this, book four of the Gatekeeper Series, we join John and Pete as they lead the Company toward sanctuary in the Colorado Rockies. The isolated community they seek, left virtually untouched by the disaster, offers the only real hope of peace and survival in a post-apocalyptic world filled with death and destruction. But to reach it, they must travel a long and dangerous, thousand-mile journey across four southern states. After having endured many local hardships, the Company embarks on their long journey despite the obvious risks involved. Prepared, they willingly hit the road with their guard up. But as they cautiously make their way toward Colorado over less traveled routes, they find there’s no way to avoid the disaster’s far reaching effects. Everyone is desperate to survive, and a traveling group of well-stocked refugees is seen as an easy and vital target. This story also includes the traveling survival experience of Mark, John’s other close friend from San Antonio. As the last holdout from the early warning email sent by John (Curtain Fall), Mark leaves home after a vicious and deadly gang battle. With only a mountain bike, and a few well-thought out supplies, Mark heads north in hopes of finding and joining up with Pete and John. His journey is also fraught with danger and misunderstanding, and several unanticipated encounters push the limits of his mental and physical endurance to new levels.
This series is filled with dreams, visions, angel encounters and spiritual superpowers. I love how that interplays with everyday survival amongst an ever-changing landscape. Will Mark and Lauren connect with John's company, and will they all make it to sanctuary? Can't wait to find out in book 5 of the series!
I love this book. I loved the new characters introduced. I like Mark a lot more than I originally thought I would. I like the addition of a love story unfolding. I loved that in all the bad things going on in the post-disaster scenario, Cary finds a way to introduce good people trying to survive. We come across a lot of people that might be more like us. Spiritually speaking, I like the authors use of the dreams. The Bible, Acts 2:17 come to mind when Cary tells of his characters having dreams. "It shall come to pass, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall, see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams". It's very believable that all mankind will have dreams and visions from the Lord.
