In "Oceans" Felicity returns to the ancient, mystical Old World with her friend Alice (Al) after four years to search for Reuben her life-partner only to discover he's missing and that his friend Jez has been scouring the land looking for him. In this new exciting adventure Felicity, Al and Jez travel to the water world of the Meshi near the Great Grinth where Reuben's held hostage by the shoala Makia who plans to have him mate with the Meshi Princess Isadora to preserve their vanishing race. But the danger is more than they expect as a dark, destructive force threatens the Great Grinth, the source of all light and energy, and the three must join forces with Reuben and Isadora if they are to save the Old World.

With vivid imagery Isabel Burt creates an Old World overflowing with strange and wonderful creatures like the "Colour Changers" providers of food and drink; the Strata massive Pterodactyl-like eagles; and the humb, dark, destructive ocean creatures with a poisonous sting. In a mystical fantasy filled with mystery, adventure and romance Felicity and her friend Al are swept up not only in a quest to rescue Reuben but in a prophecy that has them confronting a monster to save the Great Grinth from destruction. Fast-paced and action-oriented the plot quickly heats up when Felicity challenges a drugged Reuben who doesn't remember her or their relationship and is holding hands with the Meshi Princess.

With insight into legends of the Old World, and the unraveling of old secrets tension and suspense mounts especially as Felicity, Reuben and their friends draw closer to discovering their part in a prophetic vision that has them saving the Old World while the Draar-Sil and Gill prepare to battle the sinister blackness that destroys all ocean life in its path. In a story that vibrates with violence, death, imminent tragedy there are strong elements of love, friendship and hope.

The story not only revolves around familiar characters including feisty, optimistic Felicity (Flissy) and her quiet, patient lover, the Orion Reuben but delightfully innovative personalities like the fearless, battle-weary sea lion Sevastyan and the kind and wise sea turtle Aurelius. In a cast that fuels the plot with power, passion and drama, the author introduces the curious and brave Meshi Princess Isadora; Makia a corrupt, cunning and deceptive sea witch; Kraken the capricious and volatile Meshi heir; and gives new insight into Flissy's gloomy, melodramatic but humorous friend Alice who just wants to go home. Yet it's the threatening voice of Grai the diabolical darkness in each chapter as he draws closer to the land of the legendary Meshi that lends a frightening chill.

I enjoyed "Oceans" a unique and imaginative fantasy- adventure that will keep teens on the edge of their seats from beginning to end.
