Deputy Shawna Mallory finds a boy covered by a blanket and snow . Alittle white puppy was laying on the blanket with the boy. She took the boy and the dog home with her. She meets John the boys father . This is a good book.
Snow Pup is an emotional, intriguing Christmas Romance that will have you laughing, steaming mad, heartbroken and hopeful throughout this adventure. It never ceases to amaze me at just how bitter and vindictive some people can be when they don’t get their own way. And John’s ex-wife was certainly a nasty piece of entitlement. The harm that women did to both John and Billy is only equaled by the shortsightedness of a social worker who had her own issues to be dealt with, and allowed those issues to bleed into her job.
This isn’t just a romance developing between Shawna and John, it’s also the love for one little boy who has been denied his father for far, far too long. The three work so well together, and one adorable puppy only added to the charm of this family unit in the making. I enjoyed myself in this world once again, and would not hesitate to recommend Snow Pup to any Romance reader who enjoys a good story, a bit of Christmas magic and a wrong being made right again.
I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
A novella more than a book, though each book from the series could easily be stand-alones.
SNOW PUP is about a boy lost in the foster system, the puppy who saves his life, the cop who finds them both and takes them in, and the father who always wanted him but had been denied his parental rights for far too long.
So many great things not quite becoming what they could be. A predictable but still heart catching plot that could have been fleshed out better. Characters that felt like they were plucked from a Hallmark movie. Dialogue that started off strong only to fade into cheesy. And the one sex scene was definitely made for the PG crowd and yet still managed to disappoint on that level.
I read this as part of a collection. I enjoyed the straightforward story. When the romantic leads recognized their attraction, they acted in such a way as to build a relationship and a future, and to ensure the futures of a troubled boy and a cute pup who brought them together. I enjoyed the secondary characters and the small town setting. I voluntarily read an advanced review copy provided by the author via Netgalley and I offer my honest opinion in response.
Cute story, but I feel like it needed to be longer and more fleshed out. The characters jump from concern over a foster child, to a slightly steamy romance, to an HEA, faster than Romeo and Juliet met, fell in love, married and died! I felt a bit of whiplash, but it was a heartwarming story all the same. I did choke up a little at a disrurbing description of a pet getting hurt, but I got through it okay.
The second in the Holiday Heartwarmers Series, Snow Pup is a hit. The story of a pup named Snow and Billy, the boy he adopts as his own, will pull at your heartstrings and have you rooting for Billy through his hard times as a foster child. This book is a great read that can be read in the series order or as a stand alone novella.
This story tells you how people find each other in unusual ways. Some are running away from problems, others running to help and finally one trying to find his son. Plus a little puppy looking for a companion. This heartwarming story was well written and has strong and believable characters. Looking forward to read more of Mimi Barbour books.
Your heart will melt as you fall in love with a puppy and a young boy. Follow along as they find way more than they ever bargained for. A wonderful heartwarming story.
This pup has chosen his owner, and nothing is going to stop him from claiming the young boy. They are blocked at each turn, until fortune smiles on both of them.
This is the second book in Barbour's holiday series. Well-written plot with realistic characters that has no real connection to the Christmas holiday other than the setting. Deputy Shawna Mallory is a thirty-one year old single cop who lives in the rather sleepy town of Carlton Grove. She has a deep commitment to her job, and moves quickly when she hears an amber alert on the radio for a missing eleven year old boy. Mallory hears a dog barking; she finds the boy under a snow drift being guarded by the pup. The sheriff agrees to take the boy in while he awaits a new foster care family.
Complications arise when the boy's real father arrives back on the scene from an overseas assignment in Chile. John Reid McCrae appears to have a poor parenting track record, but Shawna's friend Alice knew him many years ago and offers a different opinion. In the meantime Shawna grows attached to Billy, who is about to be given to a new foster family. Billy runs away once again, but even more puzzling is the strange affect Billy's dad has upon Shawna. What outcome ensues for Billy, John, and the Deputy Sheriff whose lives have become entangled.
A heartwarming story revolving around coming of age, domestic violence, foster care, romance, pets and peer relationships that will tear at the heart strings of young adult and adult readers. Actually, the book could be a middle grade read if one is willing to look past a few curse words and one or two light romantic scenes. Snow Pup is the kind of story that will put the reader in the mood for the holiday season..
The three pups we first met in Please Keep Me return in this book. Once the first pup doesn't return Chubby decides to leave the box to find help and this is his story.
Shawna has never felt a connection as strong as the one she feels to the little boy she rescues. She even loves his furry guardian pup. Billy is an angry, unhappy and sad boy. He refuses to go back to his foster home, and can't allow himself the luxury of loving the pup either. This means Shawna is able to hang on to him for a while longer as her social worker friend tries to pull out the story of abuse in the foster home.
The surprise in the parcel is the fact that Billy is not really an orphan. His dead mother had vindictively kept the knowledge of his father from him. Now John knows that his son has been shuttled into the foster care system and he's back to stake a claim. Unfortunately he also feels like staking a claim to his son's current care giver. The deputy may love his son, but could she have place in her heart for him as well?
Really sweet and heart warming. I can't wait to see who Cranky, the third pup, ends up with.
John Reid McCrae and Shawna Mallory have a common goal in Snow Pup to help John's son Billy find a happy family life.
Deputy Shawna Mallory finds Billy and a puppy under a pile of snow in the park after he ran away and he opens his eyes and asks if he is dead and she is his own personal angel; she falls in love with Billy a very sad eleven-year-old. He ran away from an abusive situation in a foster home and Shawna takes him in as a temporary foster mom.
John is back from years of working overseas to claim his son but has to apply to the social service system and prove he is a worthy father for Billy.
This sets up the story for Shawna and John to get to know one another and romance develops while Billy struggles with the hurt of never feeling wanted. It is an emotional story full of conflicting emotions that show the depth of each character and the love of the puppy, Snow for his new young master. I love stories set at Christmas with happy endings.
This book read like a high school student has written it!! There was no depth to any of the characters And the way the story ran .. and I do mean ran a fast pace that before I knew it .. the book ended. when it felt like it just started
Plus I hated all the characters except for snow, Billy, John and Adam
The plot seemed really silly because every thing happened so fast that when you begin feeling one thing suddenly it ends and you have to skip to another emotion and to be honest ..
I felt nothing for this book .. It sparked no emotion in me ..
4.5 stars This is a wonderful contemporary romance. A young boy has run from his foster family. He is about 12 years old but wise because of what he's suffered through. A female police officer finds him and a puppy burried in snow. They are just starting to bond when his biological father shows up and the struggles begin. I love this type of story at the holodays. It's warm, meaningful yet has twists and turns to keep the readers attention. I received this complementary copy of this and chose to write a review. I look forward to future books by this author.
Book #2 in Mimi's trilogy about three pups tossed in a river. After their sister takes off, pup #2 decides to look for food. He comes across a little boy buried in the snow and snuggles in to keep him warm. A policewoman finds them and takes them to her home. His father arrives, as does social services.
I do enjoy a Mimi Barbour story. They generally pull at the heart strings. Nicely paced with interesting characters in fun situations. This one didn't disappoint. It had all the feels. But then a rather abrupt ending. Yes, my imagination can get to all the happy, but really? Could we at least get them back home?
Another heartwarming Christmas book. As I said before: the book is short and sweet. So perfect for the current season. I received the first book free (for no consideration). So happy I bought the next two! Starting #3 now!
This ok s a good story that ended to soon. T h e characters were easy to get to know. There could have been more detailed descriptions of what was going on in the adults lives.
