When Miss Charlotte Radley arrives on his doorstep, claiming she needs help from the Lords of Night Street, Viscount Needly is intrigued. She lives in one of the most notorious parts of London and runs a halfway house for ladies of the night, yet her speech and manner tell him she is a lady. Determined to uncover the truth about his mysterious new client, Marcus’s investigations find that not only is Charlotte more than she seems—she’s also in grave danger.

But instead of listening to his warnings, the headstrong Charlotte continues to throw herself into trouble on behalf of her girls, giving no thought to her own well-being.

When she is abducted, Marcus has no choice but to go after her. He knows that it’s no longer just her safety involved—his own survival would be in question if he lost the one woman who had given his life meaning.

This is a continuation of the series about 4 friends who work together incognito to solve crimes. This is Marcus and Charlotte's story. It's intense, mildly steamy and fast-paced. The heroine is strong willed and witty but at times focuses too much on class difference between them, and Marcus denies his feeling almost till the end, and of course, recognizes them as soon as Charlotte is in trouble. What is it with lords and waiting till the last moment?

There was plenty action and chase, some banter between friends and a sight of life in the underbelly of London as well as class difference clearly outlined in the beginning that started to blur by the time the book was over. It was a good book considering its shortness, but its many errors and misprints made the story less enjoyable for me.

I really am enjoying this series - the novella length is nice if you want to pick up a quick read during busy times. Wendy Vella really can build her characters extremely well even in the short length. I love that we get to revisit all the Lords of Night Street from Book 1 about Nicholas, Lord Gallant. This time Marcus, Viscount Needly (aka Lord Valiant) will be the main character but will still receive help from the other wealthy Lords who are known for their investigating expertise.

The heroine needing Marcus & the other Lords of Night Street is Charlotte Radley, the bastard daughter of a Duke & his mistress. She has a "Home" in a horrible part of London for people to find a safe place from the streets. Young prostitutes are being kidnapped & she goes to Marcus to help her find them.

Marcus finds this lady very intriguing, strong, bold & outspoken. There is danger, suspense, good friends, her adopted family, handsome Lords, romance, love & spice. Can they find a HEA? I highly recommend this series.

I would give the book, perhaps, a 3.5, not truly a three.
This is the second book in the Lords of Night Street series. Book 1 was tolerable, and I thought to read another to see if the author's style and the story lines developed. I am sorry to say they did not. This is not the type of books for me. I am not one to read of women being held in a room and strapped to the wall inside. I realize some do not mind. I do.
I did finish the book, which is 12 chapters, by the way. I just will not choose to read other books in the series.
As in Lord Gallant, the author uses "woman" when "women" is required.
I felt the use of the word "hello" used in greeting sounded too modern.
These are some of the noted typos: "finding a smiled as he"; "His kissed her"'; "a knocked sounded"; and the use of "refuse" when "refuge" would be required.

5 STARS, HISTORICAL REGENCY ERA

A sensitive & terrifying novella that looks around the lifestyle of being a prostitute, of different sorts or levels to the difference of love having a mistress or wife. Further, it highlights both the evil & criminal inputs that are definitely part of any of prostitution levels.

Lord Valiant manages his family & everything he is a part of; probably brought about because he had to be head of his Family early in life. Will that big sexy managing man be able to get past society's opinions, or care about anyone other than he loves his woman no matter who she is, what her birth was, & what she does. Will they marry?

Who? Read this fantastic Novella. Recommend

Better than book 1

Although this book was too short in my opinion, I know that novellas are the new thing. I liked this book better than Lord Gallant, probably because it was essentially a continuation of book 1 and had a bit more substance to the characters. I liked Marcus and Charlotte a lot. One thing that does bother me is that each of Vella's books I've read has had some editing mistakes. She is such a good writer that I try to ignore them. But in a short novella, you'd think that editing wouldn't be a problem. Someone needs to do a better job of proofreading. Just saying.

Born of a mistress

Charlotte was a base born daughter of a Duke but she made it her life's mission to rescue women who wanted another way of life! Marcus has had responsibility thrust on his shoulders since the young age of 15! Prostitutes are kidnapped and unsavory characters are everywhere in this story! Marcus is strong and has not needed anyone Charlotte is strong and hasn't had anyone to lean on! A fire, a brothel and a run thru the streets after midnight these two strong willed people might find their HEA! There missing words to this novella it was a little off putting!

Miss Charlotte Radley, bastard daughter of the Duke of Marlton approaches the Lords of the Night for help. Prostitutes are being abducted and she needs the help of Marcus, Viscount Needly aka Lord Valiant for help.
A fast paced romance story with a touch of mystery, though Charlotte's actions seem to border on stupidity and became annoying

I didn't like this book as well as the 1st book in the series, the characters were ok, but. I would of liked it if they had found out that her Mother was in fact married to the Duke.. so she was worthy.... She was also stupid putting herself in danger going back to the burnt house....

Hard fall

No matter how much Marcus denied his feelings he still took a hard nose dive when he finally accepted his love for Charlotte.

In the sequel to Lord Gallant, we meet Miss Charlotte Radley who runs a halfway house for women of the night. She cares a great deal about helping these women but once some of them start getting kidnapped Charlotte goes to the Lords of Night Street for help. Marcus, Viscount Needly or Lord Valiant, is intrigued by this strong stubborn women who lives in the worst part of the city but holds herself like a lady. Believe me, Charlotte and Marcus clash a lot. Charlotte has a really hard time trusting Marcus to truly help her and in finding these missing women. I really admire Charlotte for her strength and her desire to help these women. I also really like her sidekick, so to speak, a twelve year old boy named Fred who looks after her as much as he can (Charlotte really is strong willed and Fred can only do so much).

I had a tiny problem with Marcus discussing Charlotte's lineage with his friends and saying how he could never be with her because of her circumstances but then defending her saying that she was to be respected like a lady. I mean I figured he was trying to put distance between them and talking himself out of feeling anything for her but he said this to his friends or thought about it a few times so I wasn't sure what was really going on in his head. However, he does get over whatever confliction he has overtime.

On the plot, I was absolutely intrigued in finding these missing women and who was behind the horrible kidnappings. There was a nice twist that I didn't expect so I greatly appreciate that.

Otherwise, this book was really good and I cannot wait for the third book in the Lords of Night Series.

After reading her first Regency romance, I fast became a fan of Wendy Vella's. I'm always eager to read her latest offering. Lord Valiant has only strengthened my love of her work. This is the story of how Marcus, Viscount Needly finds the woman who will claim his heart. Miss Charlotte Radley is a woman well use to the uglier side of mankind. Not simply because of her upbringing, though it dealt its own blows, but because she has devoted her life to prostitutes and and a few servants who have been abused by their betters.

I think this is the shortest of Ms. Vella's works that I've read. It took me under two hours to finish. However, it includes enough back story, character detail and textures (she does a nice job of describing fabrics that give the perfect visual) to provide a well-written and captivating romance.

It's a quick read, but an excellent one and well suited for a cozy afternoon in bed or one spent lounging by the pool.

Stars 3/4 (Kate Pearce, Maureen Driscoll, Elisa Braden)

Hey fellow readers I don’t summarize the books (as there are always great full summaries written that I read myself).

I only give it my personal, general, summary of 5 stars to 1 star.

3 stars: This book is worth a read but didn’t really have me excited about interacting with the book where I could not put it down. It lacks the excitement and well roundness of my personal markers for a great read throughout the book.

Development and interest in main characters, secondary characters, humorous, movement of the book, writing/conversation and romantic/sexual content (1-2 scenes or too much unnecessary).

Read it once and that is enough for me.

However, if this book is part of a series, I would read the next book (pervious book) in the series as it would still peek my reading interest.

I’ll continue reading from this author. I wouldn’t cross the author out of my potential reads in the future.

I love reading Wendy Vella's stories. Always good plots and wonderful characters. Is it me, or did the ending arrive too quickly? I think it's because WV always keeps me interested and so I read too fast. Loved it. Most enjoyable.

I loved this story; it made me go through a lot of emotions one after the other: pain, relief, sadness, joy, anxiety, and more. The Lords of Night Street learned early not to judge or have misconceptions about people in view of their upbringing or the money they have. Thus, Valiant, or Marcus, has no problem falling for Charlotte. There is action, adventure, suspense, and romance. I like the way the group work together, how some things are left unsaid but understood, and on top of everything else, they have been great friends since their childhood. The sex scenes are sensual, nothing that I wouldn't let my children read.
