Girl Meets Girl #1

Never-Tied Nora

Rate this book
Nora Kelly loves her carefree London life where there’s always a new woman to seduce. Her big Irish family tease her about her footloose ways, but she knows she’s in no danger of losing her heart.

Her family has only one rule when it comes to dating: Nora can date any woman she wants—as long as she’s not a Flannery. The Kellys and the Flannerys have been feuding ever since both families arrived in London from Ireland sixty years ago, and time has not lessened the hatred.

But never-tied Nora has just met the woman of her dreams, and suddenly commitment isn’t a dirty word. Trouble is, Geraldine is a Flannery.

Can Nora convince Ger that, despite their families, they are meant to be together?

Now I know why people like these books so much. This was an enjoyable romance with a ton of chemistry and good sex scenes. An extremely likeable main character (Nora) and a good secondary character (Sue) who I guess will become the star of the next book.

Only small compliant is the main storyline was predictable. You could see it coming a mile away. Luckily, it did not take away any enjoyment for me. Funny enough I would give this an insta-love tag, which normally I dislike, but I didn’t mind it this time. I really bought the connection and chemistry the characters had. Blue writes really well. The book is on the shorter side, but the cheaper price reflexes that so no complaints from me.

I enjoyed this read and find it easy to recommend to romance fans.

“Never-Tied Nora” is not, it turns out, about Nora being introduced to bondage…I should’ve read the blurb! Nora hasn’t wanted to be tied-down to a relationship…ropes are never mentioned! Silly me.

Once Nora meets Geraldine (Ger), though, being tied-down instantly becomes a desirable option (still without ropes!). Definitely instalove and instalust here, with lots of explicit sex and even more thinking about explicit sex while the characters try to go slow enough to build a relationship on more than just lust.

The MCs are very likable, and the secondary characters add depth to what is generally a very predictable story. I really liked Nora’s friend Sue, and the hotel scene with Moni was wonderfully erotic!! The obligatory breakup took longer to resolve than I would’ve preferred; Ger told Nora that she isn’t brave, but that felt too artificial, coming from an out lesbian in a very traditional Irish Catholic family.

“Never-Tied Nora” isn’t available as an audiobook, but I used Voice Dream and I really enjoyed listening to the story. Cheyenne Blue has 81 books listed on goodreads, but she only has stories in two anthologies on Audible. Happily, both of those books are included in the Audible “ Unlimited Romance Package” so I plan to pick them up to hear a human narrate some of Cheyenne’s stories. Hopefully, she’ll bring more to Audible, but with the two existing books having been published in 2011 and 2014 it doesn’t look like she’s in a rush to produce audiobooks.

4* for “Never-Tied Nora”….recommended even without any ropes!

Never-Tied Nora is a quick, sexy read. This is a romance that leans heavily towards erotica. So if that floats your boat, you definitely want to give this one a whirl.

Nora Kelly is your love'em and leave'em type. Everybody knows Nora has no desire to settle down. Even her large Irish family gives her a hard time about her revolving door to the bedroom. Everything changes the very second she lays her eyes on Geraldine Flannery entering a local pub.

Geraldine is a junior architect, who has her heart destroyed once and has no desire to repeat the process. Her guard is up when it comes to women, she wishes she could let the past go, but finds it hard to put herself out there again. This all changes as Nora forces her to a share a glass of wine. The only problem is Nora is a Kelly and Geraldine is a Flannery and these two families hate each other.

This book is quick read and Cheyenne Blue does a great job of creating likable characters right from the start. You really want these two be each other's happy ever after, feud be damned. One thing I would have liked to see is more of the feud in the later half of the book. The tension was wrapped up just a tad too quick and too easily.

If you are looking for a sexy read, with some majorly hot lady loving scenes this is your book. If you are more the slow burn uber romance type, this book is not that. It's hot right from the start. Fire extinguishers might be needed!!!

Good, short book that gives a good punch. Neatly encapsulates the absurdity of living in the past, fighting your grand-grand Dad’s battles. Loved it - highly recommended.

Excellent!

A feud between the Kelly's and the Flannery's, an unresolved family feud and that for many years. What if you fall in love with a member of the wrong family? You don't choose the one you are falling for, it just happened. Both their worlds gets upside down, the love can never be and the feud threatens to tear their lives apart. They are powerless to stop the hate. The fear of losing all the chances of a happy life is real and seeing the struggles they were going through, it felt like I was in the story. The main characters are real and easy to love. The storyline is strong passionate, well written and it touched my heart. It was captivating and a very enjoyable read. I recommend it highly.

I absolutely loved Cheyenne's first novella length story! I've read the majority of her short story work and I've always loved her stories and characters. So getting to read a longer work by Cheyenne was just too much awesome to pass up!

We are introduced to Nora, aka Never-Tied Nora (Nora doesn't do commitment). Pretty early on we are also introduced to the back-story arch which is how her Irish family (The Kelly's) is in a long time feud with another Irish family, the Flannery's, due to their grandparents basically pissing each other off and making the rest of the family down the generations hold on to the anger and animosity rather than moving on from it. I know some Irish folks and I'll just say that I've seen plenty of grudge holding and drama. Not that we don't all have that but I've definitely seen the differences between a full Irish family and non Irish. It's craziness and this story definitely showed that. Not only is there a lot of fiery drama, but there is also a fierceness in protecting and honoring your family, and upholding their values and putting them above all else.

I don't really want to say too much more for fear of spoiling the story for everyone but trust me when I say this is a wonderful read. There's romance, action, hot f/f sex, family drama, and no shortage of life lessons and realistic issues.

Highly recommended for readers of romance.

The title of the book refers to main character Nora Kelly. She doesn’t want to be tied down and enjoys her life and womanizing lifestyle. Her big Irish family has lived in London for decades and is her foundation. When her sister Mary tells her, "when love hits, and it will, it’ll come with a wallop”, Nora can only scoff. That is until she sees the one in a crowded pub. The one is Geraldine (Ger) Flannery.

This is a star crossed lovers falling in love instantly. There is flirting, food, walks, and passion. There is also a decades long family feud. Everything is told from Nora’s POV but there is no doubt of Ger’s emotions. Best friend Sue adds a little filler to this short novel (154 pages), giving her a set up for a follow-up book. You need to believe in insta love for this book to work for you and it works for me. The only part I didn’t love was a hotel scene that felt out of place.

I was introduced to Cheyenne Blue’s writing from a GoodReads friend and happily jumped into this book. The cover also drew me as I’ve walked that street in London many times. This book was originally released in December 2015 and is part of a four book stand alone series. Thank you Ylva Publishing for the ARC via NetGalley and I’m leaving a voluntary review.

Detailed score: 3.5

I will say up front that if you have enjoyed Cheyenne Blue's other short erotic/erotic romance stories then you should definitely give this a read.

I say this because the elements of this story that Blue is experienced in creating in her short works are really strong. Quickly establishing likeable leads and really well-written pwoar scenes which reflect and build the love growing between the two leads.

The weaker parts are those that, I imagine, were new to the author in this expanded format. For example -- the love is the most insta of insta-love... and I felt it could have been expanded out a little. Likewise I thought the Romeo and Juliet family feud set up was well establsihed and interesting but could have been given room to expand around the characters, particularly in the later half of the book.

I have given this an encouragement star (I was only going to give 3 but that felt mean) as this is a good, enjoyable story. I hope it is the first of more longer-length Blue stories to come as I feel like once the author gets her writing 'legs' in this expanded format a little more, we'll be in for a rollicking good ride.

Fighting Irish

Only a few writers make me as happy as Ms Cheyenne Blue does. She constantly writes really, really good and sexy/erotic stories that are touching and emotional.

This adventure is the tale of Nora Kelly. She is a major player until the day she meets the beyond beautiful Geraldine. She knows without a doubt that this is the woman she wants to settle down with and yes, even marry. The only problem? Ger is a Flannery. The Kellys and the Flannerys have been in a 60 year feud the still leads to fights in the streets. Easy right?

I loved watching the relationships each woman has with her family, each other and herself. I liked how these relationships changed and grew and changed some more. Told from Nora's POV Ms Blue lets us see who she really is and how her mind works. This, to me, makes the character all the more real, likable and believable. You can not help but sympathize with her struggles. The eroticism in the tale is pure Ms. Blue. Hot, sensual and intense, her trademarks. I can not wait for book two in this series.

3,5* This was a quick and enjoyable read. It's great if you have some time to kill and don't want to get lost in a story that will have you reading throughout the entire night, like I've been guilty of doing on more than one occasion.
I did feel the feud between the two families was a little exaggerated and the build up between Nora and Ger was a little rushed but it was still a sweet love story. I loved the chemistry between the leading ladies and really look forward to starting book two in this series.

Looking to be a great series

Finally read this after being hesitant for some reason and I am so glad I did. The story is told from Nora's POV and though I'm also a stickler for idea of more, this story gives just enough. And loved it. Can't wait to read the next one in the series!

3.4 stars. Enjoyed this one. It's short so the story never goes into any topic deeply but on the other hand there's no grind, it's engaging from start to end. It is predictable though and the player trope is kinda overused at this point but works fine this time around. The family feud was an interesting touch. And I usually dislike insta love and it can be categorized as such in this case but right after the initial physical attraction they also found an emotional connection, it was believable so I guess every rule has an exception.

A quick and fun read.

This is a fast & witty romp. Nora (a lothario) Kelly gets hit by cupid's proverbial arrow & falls for Geraldine. Both lasses are of Irish descent living in London. Although their respective families are sworn enemies, due to an old grudge. Neither gal recognizes this until it's too late.

I was offered the book in exchange of an honest review, so …
Here it is !!!

Gosh !!! How not thinking about Romeo and Juliet reading the plot of this book ?? But Thank God, it’s a lesbian story and there’s no poison involved in the end … LOL
I’m a old fashion romantic and usually not fan (at all) of the « insta-love romance » thing but only morons never change their mind, right ??? So, I opened the book and began to read … OK, I confess I was very surprised & pleased by the story so I read, read and read … until the end !!

« Never-Tied Nora » is a very enjoyable, quick, easy & sexy read ( Yep : sexy !! The romance, sometimes, leans heavily towards erotica 😉 ). Oh !! BTW, it’s also full of humor (God !! Some of the Irish old sayings are quite funny .. LOL).

When I meet some likable characters I always want to know more about them so, I was a bit sad because the book is quite short so the characters’s backgrounds are not enough developed (for my own taste …) => I would have found logical that both of the families notice the ladies’ s mood and physical change and, consequently I would have loved to have a bit more of drama because of the bloody feud on one side and, on the other side, more information about how each of the main characters went through during the months they were apart, mainly Geraldine since we ignore totally what happened to her during the separation … But there’s none of this and I need to respect the author's choice. 😊

Since I like a lot Cheyenne Blue’s style and appreciate her characters, I can’t wait to read the next books in the series (beginning by « 'Not-So- Straight Sue » --released in October 2016) to have some news about them …

Don’t be shy guys and gals, grab your copy and make your own opinion on the Kelly Lady … Enjoy your reading !!!

This book was really cute, the Irish lesbian Romeo and Juliet I didn't know I needed, especially since it doesn't have the poison and tweenagers of the original. I loved the whirlwind nature of the relationship, even if I didn't love how Nora handled the breakup aftermath as much. Very much looking forward to reading the sequel.

This is my first book from the author.
I really wanted to like this book. It's a nice quick read and It's pretty well written and also I'm a sucker for cheesiness and cliche but i just couldn't connect with them. I wanted to believe they fell in love right there and then but i just can't and also they have this family feud like i thought someone killed someone or something as deep as that worthy of a long lasting fight but i got none.

The word feck is stuck on my fecking head.
I would agree with a lot of comments here that this is more like a modern day Romeo and Juliet minus the tragic ending, replace with a happy one.

This story is told in first person and entirely from Nora’s point-of-view. I liked that to a point as I really got to know Nora, however there were times I would have like to know Ger’s thoughts. That said her actions were described in such a way it wasn’t difficult to know what was going on in her head!

I don’t want to give too much away about the plot, more so what threatened to drive these two ladies apart, as to do so would be a huge spoiler. Let’s just say what came to life took me aback! I didn’t see it coming at all. Sadly, a well-meaning reviewer has pointed that out in her posted review, something I’m pleased I didn’t see before reading Never-Tied Nora.

I loved the leading characters and reading their plight. The story kept me wondering how they would ever overcome the obstacles in their path.

What didn’t work for me – the hotel scene! What I’m sure was supposed to be hot, was all just a little bit too creepy for me to enjoy! Somethings are sacred. To not have sex with someone then engage in something way more intimate, in my opinion, felt off! And I’ll leave that cryptic comment as it is! What I didn’t enjoy I’m sure another person will love.

Then we have the entire Kelly / Flannery family feud. A grudge that has been held and passed on for over sixty years. I am sure some people install hatred in their children for whatever reason. However, it was an aspect of the story that was overplayed and I struggled to grasp.

This story also suffers a little bit of first in a series syndrome. I loved Nora’s friend Sue, and even though the story wasn’t about her, a lot of page time was given to her, clearly setting up book two. But that’s also well played, because I’m looking forward to reading more about Sue! Although I did chuckle the very Australian woman said ‘eh’. I always thought that was a Canadian term?

Last but not least, this story is extremely well edited, which is always a bonus to me as a reader who tends to see every typo.

Copy received in exchange for an honest review.

Fun and easy to read story set in London. The main characters are mid 20’s with Irish Catholic families feuding for generations. A sapphic Romeo and Juliet, but an actual romance and not a tragedy.

The writing is beautiful and the characters are great. Never tied Nora explores the ideas of family, and instant attraction that is something beyond lust.

Side characters are fantastic and in such a small word count (novella) Cheyenne Blue has created a tangible world populated by an array of dynamic and well rounded characters.

Can’t wait to read more of this series.

Nora see’s Geraldine across the room and vows to her best friend that she is her future wife (see full quote below) before she has even spoken to her.

Nora woo’s Geraldine and they fall in love and… into bed. Its almost too late when the realize that their families know each other and have been feuding for years… With no sign of hope, how can their love triumph their families hate?

The story is told from only Nora point of view. I would have liked to have a little insight into Geraldine’s thoughts as she came off cold in a lot of the scenes and due to this I never really warmed to her. Nora’s personality was genuine and she was clearly a very caring person. I wasn’t so keen on her cheesy lines but hey I’m sure that appeals to the larger audience.

The sex scenes where hot and there was a certain amount of vulnerability in those moments between the main protagonist's that renewed my faith in their love in my moment's of doubt.

I really liked the authors writing style and I am looking forward to reading more of her books especially in this particular series.

3.5 Stars. Good start to new series.

The next books in the series are 'Not-So- Straight Sue' (released October 2016) followed by 'Fenced- in Felix' (released November 2016) both of which are currently sitting on my to-read list. Watch out for the reviews in next few weeks.

Quote of the Book:

“I just seen my future wife” I said to sue “I want to woo her, date her and live with her. In a couple of years I’ll send you a wedding invitation.”

4 out 5 stars – It's a bittersweet feeling to finally read a book that has been on my TBR list for so long and find out that it was such a fun and steamy read! I can't help but wonder why I waited so long to read this… SMH

"Never-Tied Nora" by Cheyenne Blue, the first book in the Girl Meets Girl Series, is a fine romance that weaves together themes of love, erotica, and family dynamics. The story revolves around Nora Kelly, a carefree woman who has always shied away from commitment, and Geraldine Flannery, a stunning architect who captures Nora's heart at first sight. However, their blossoming relationship is not without obstacles, as a longstanding feud between their respective Irish families threatens to tear them apart.

For a novella, the plot is understandably a little bit too fast-paced; its relatable characters and the brief exploration of family dynamics, nonetheless, manage to add extra layers of tension and complexity to the narrative—keeping me engrossed until the very end.

Furthermore, as the first book in the abovementioned series, I thought this romance, albeit novella-length, sets a strong foundation for the subsequent installments, which I am excited to read next.

A great love story, a modern Remo and Juliet with a sapphic twist and a happy ending! I fall in love with this adorable couple Nora and Ger, and I feel their heartache and longing of the unfulfilled love. I like Nora's bravery and courage, she is perfect for the overly cautious and timid Ger. I also enjoy the poetic language, the smooth storytelling and the realistic description of London.

Romance is a feel-good genre. You may ache along with the characters as they struggle toward their future together, but you know they’ll ultimately find happiness. Romance provides vicarious satisfaction, an escape from the sometimes ugly and always uncertain nature of reality.

Unfortunately, this also means that romance tends to be predictable. No matter what obstacles separate the protagonists, they’re required, by the genre, to overcome them by the end of the book. From a personal perspective, I find this unfortunate. I like suspense. I enjoy being surprised. Occasionally I encounter a romance that can deliver that pleasure, along with the satisfaction of a HEA, but that’s rare.

Hence, I’m probably not the best person to review Cheyenne Blue’s FF romance Never-Tied Nora. The book features Ms. Blue’s usual strong and evocative prose. Her characters, as always, are distinctive and believable, and she paints the environment around them in quick, sure strokes that draw the reader into the scene. However, from the moment Nora first meets the lovely and mysterious Geraldine, I knew what was going to happen—not just the happily ever after that finally awaited them, but the nature of the issue that would tear them apart first.

Assertive and independent, Nora Kelly has earned her sobriquet “Never-Tied” through her pursuits of women for a night of pleasure, but nothing more. Her many siblings all want to settle down, but not Nora. A sort of female Don Juan, she loves the chase, the dance of flirtation, the sensual delight of exploring new bodies. She believes that’s enough.

When she meets Geraldine—Ger—all that changes. For once, she’s not in a rush to get the lovely woman into her bed. They take time to get to know one another, and when they finally do make love, the experience is totally unlike anything Nora has experienced in her many conquests. She understands that her sister Theresa was right—that she’s finally found a woman with whom she wants a future.

Geraldine apparently feels the same. Then Ger discovers the truth about Nora’s background and family, and despite her love, pushes Nora out of her life. With Geraldine gone, Nora’s existence loses its meaning. She resolves to get the girl she loves back, no matter what sacrifices that requires.

Nora’s emotional journey struck a chord with me. My favorite section of the book is when Nora, trying to recover from the loss of her true love, goes back to her old haunts to deliberately seduce a new woman. A tourist from London, Monica seems up for the game, matching Nora innuendo for innuendo. She invites Nora to her hotel room, for the obvious reasons—but they can’t bring themselves to have sex. It turns out that Monica has come to Australia to forget a heartache of her own. This encounter is what triggers Nora’s decision to fight for the woman she loves—whom it seems no other girl can replace

It’s always a delight to read Cheyenne Blue’s work. However, I have to admit that I prefer her erotica, where the outcomes are more in doubt.

Others have already commented on the classic storyline of this novella, so I won't go into that.
For me the thing with Cheyenne Blue is that it really doesn't matter what she writes. She could probably write a wine label blurb and still leave me a totally satisfied reader. I can only think of a couple of other writers (in totally different genres) whose choice of words is always so spot on and who 'play' language in the same virtuouso style without ever being pretentious or naff or repetitive.
Her knack for accents accross the globe is stunning and serves characterisation so much better than a parade of adjectives would. I can always really hear her characters and that to me a huge bonus that not a lot of writers achieve.
It's a great shame (for me) that she writes exclusively lesbian erotica these days, something I only have a sporadic interest in, unless it has her name in the credits somewhere. But I'm secretly hoping that this is the first in a long line of longer works, some of which may not be lesbian erotica. Until then, I guess I'll keep buying whatever she has to offer. Beggars can't be chosers. And I am definitely begging for more.
