About the author

Kir Bulychev was a pen name of Igor Vsevolodovich Mozheiko, a Soviet Russian science fiction writer, critic, translator and historian of Lithuanian ancestry. His magnum opus is a children's science fiction series Alisa Selezneva, although most of his books are adult-oriented. His books were adapted for film, TV, and animation over 20 times – more than any other Russian science fiction author – and Bulychev himself wrote scripts for early adaptations.
He began to write SF in 1965. He has translated numerous American SF stories into Russian.
Winner of the ESFS Awards in 1984 as the "Best Short Story Writer".
Winner of the Aelita award in 1997.

My husband found this strange little collection of stories on Open Library and had me read it before passing it on to our 6-year-old. I don't think I have ever read any real science fiction that was appropriate and appealing to the early elementary age group, so this was a fun discovery. I wasn't sure my daughter would be able to orient herself in the story, given that it was set in space and there were many invented creatures featured in the stories, but she happily dove right in and is still talking about how much she loved "the story about the dog with six feet."

I absolutely loved this book as a kid and I absolutely love it now, re-reading it, 30 years later. Alissa is funny and cute, her adventures are never too dangerous, all ends well and of course, she saves the day! There are all kinds of cosy, fuzzy, firendly creatures.I recommend this book sooo warmly!

Я люблю творения Кира Булычева. Я не разочаровывалась ни в одной его книжке. Но вот Алису с начала и до самого конца так ни разу и не прочитала. А ведь это того стоит. Для меня это живой взгляд в то будущее, которое так хотели создать люди в нашем прошлом. То за что они боролись и так обидно, что этого будущего нам не видать, но зато читать о нем и чувствовать его как параллельную вселенную где-то далеко происходящее - это мне нравится.

Наверное, я в том возрасте, когда возникает ностальгия по не произошедшему, хоть и обещанному. И вот светлые книжки Кира Булычева заполняют эту нишу во мне. Так что прочитать про маленькую Алису, которая еще и в школу-то не ходит, но уже успела попасть в кучу приключений, выкормить динозавра, найти прилетевших инопланетян, побывать в прошлом - это то, что иногда просто необходимо, чтобы заполнить добрым светом не произошедшего скептицизм настоящего. И иногда тоже хочется где-нибудь вовремя оказаться или хотя бы заметить, что ты там, где вовремя:)

A very fun collection of short stories about the adventures of a young girl who lives in the future. It was first recommended to me by a friend (I've forgotten who, but believe it was someone I know in Finland) as a childhood favorite, so I was delighted to stumble across a copy. That said, it's been sitting on my Teetering Pile for about six years now and I finally got around to reading it today. I have no idea how faithful the translation is to the original, but it was very readable (not always the case, I've found, for books translated from Russian) and enjoyable.

Самое первое изданное произведение об Алисе и в книге не происходит почти ничего, что можно назвать сквозным сюжетом и трехактной структурой. По форме это небольшие рассказы, знакомящие нас с Алисой, с ее высоконаучным, но отсюда сказочным миром. Читать интересно, почти в каждом сегменте есть расширение рамок нашего мира. Спустя 60 лет выглядит ретрофутуризмом, но отсюда только больше шарма. В книге много забавного и написанного "с прищуром". Лично мне бы хотелось чуть больше сюжетного развития.

A fairly decent translation of the original. There were only a few times I had to translate the translation to my daughter. Now she wants me to read more of Alice's stories to her! ..and that's nearly impossible in English, alas.
