When he said those fateful words, Ben didn't know what he was setting in motion.
Ben is a busy dad to a four year old little girl. He doesn't have much time for a social life, but he wasn't serious when he asked for a man for Christmas. His daughter, Maya, doesn't know that. She is determined to play Santa and get her dad the gift he asked for.
The man she picks for her dad is her preschool teacher, Jason Kenney. Neither Jason nor Maya think he's the right man to be a present for Ben, so why is he standing there on Christmas Eve with a gift bow in his hair?
Smarting from a recent breakup, Jason isn't looking forward to the holidays. Despite his reservations, Jason gets tangled up with Ben. There is something about Ben that he just can't resist. As their feelings intensify, will spending Christmas together turn into something more?
This was a really cute idea, but it fell way short in the execution for me. It was just very dry, with short, staccato sentences and not a lot of detail, overly simplistic, like a kid in grade school would write. An example, opening paragraph:
"Coming home from work, Ben had his hands full. He had his laptop bag in one hand and the takeout for dinner in the other. Juggling the bags and his keys, he got through the apartment door. He yelled hi from the welcome mat then went in to find Carly, his kid sister, and Maya at the kitchen table."
While I don't need overly flowery, lengthy prose, I do need a bit more to really help me visualize the story taking place in front of me.
This is a cute cheesy Christmas story about a little girl who really loves her daddy. She wants him to be happy and get his Christmas wish. She sets out with a four year old's determination to find her daddy a man for Christmas.
Instant attraction and love?? Of course it is only 95 pages. The sentence structure is short - almost abrupt - but it also is full of warmth, hope, humor and love. A recipe for a quick Christmas read that brings a smile.
Jason comes across as kind of incompetent when he so easily gives in to Maya and lets her manipulate him. I did find it cute and funny in a quirky way though
This was wonderful and I loved Maya so much. Her mission to get her daddy a boyfriend for Christmas was hilarious. I gave a four because I wanted what Maya's imagine was to happen but it didn't. There also needed to be more Jason on Christmas day and their wasn't.
The New Year's Eve party made up for not enough Xmas however plus the sex scene.
Jason is Maya's substitute teacher and she wanted his help with how get her daddy a boyfriend for Christmas. When her options failed she went with him instead. The romance was sweet and I wanted it to keep going instead of end.
This book made me laugh out loud so many times and I could not help smiling throughout! Maya with her stubborn and innocent nature got me going every time.
Ben was such a loving father and sweet person but Jason was definitely the one who brought the sparkle! He was hurt but with his wise and kind nature along with Alfie in tow, he won me over!
This fun filled, family oriented and heartwarming love story was worth the read. I wish it was longer for sure. But I have become a fan of Trina Solet and can't wait to read more of her books!
Not enough stars for this book and I would have loved for it to be much longer. I can not get enough of the little girl and her dad and the teacher. Please write a sequel. A must read.
In a word: Read the thing. This one is kinda like a Lifetime Christmas movie: fluffy, sappy, and heartwarming (only with sex you wouldn’t find in a Lifetime Christmas movie), though I kinda expected that. What I wasn’t expecting was how funny it was. Seriously, without Maya this story would just be run of the mill Christmas fluff. Maya makes things a lot more entertaining. The romance kinda fell into the insta-love territory, so I wasn’t really a big fan of that, though Ben and Jason’s interactions before they were officially together were pretty good. It’s really Maya’s character that’s the main draw for me, though. If you aren’t a fan of child characters, even when they aren’t being overly precious and annoying, then you probably won’t like most of A Christmas Boyfriend. It’s a feel-good romance story with very, very minimal angst and no conflict and lots of laughs. Our two leads are pretty standard, but they’re cute together and their no-obstacles relationship makes for a relaxing read. Also it’s a short book so it also makes for a quick read.
I loved this short Christmas story. Ben is pretty happy with his life, he just wants someone to share it with. Jason is still feeling a bit wounded by his ex, but isn't agonizing over him either. I like that, while there is instant attraction, Ben and Jason take the time to build their relationship. Maya is precocious without being obnoxious. I love that when she overhears Ben being snarky about what he wants for a gift, she's determined to give Ben exactly what he wants. Jason and Ben both find it to be a perfect choice. I would definitely recommend this for a quick enjoyable holiday book, there's no angst; just sweet romance. Adult read
was a really cute, humorous story... but the writing was VERY simple... didn't matter, though... I was still entertained and Maya was just adorable!!! Now, I am moving on to !!! Tis the season!!! *grin*
Another story i liked wanted to love but it happens. Had funny moments. Maya 4 year old girl over hears his dad and auntie talking how he wants a boyfriend for Christmas hearing this Maya is on an mission and its so cute. Which leads her t her teacher jason, and poor Jason goes along with it but then love happens between him and ben. Its a fun read and funny parts.
I loved this book it was sweet. The MC's had a connection quickly and their relationship evolved nicely. It is a great Christmas Love Story. It was so sweet how the little girl wanted her Dad to be happy and have someone for Christmas. I enjoyed it and it is definitely going on my list of Holiday reads.
This was a fun, heartwarming, and enjoyable read. I do think it could have been better had it been longer with more detail but I was still smiling as I read the last page. Sometimes we just need a short lighthearted romance to brighten our day and that's what A Christmas Boyfriend was for me.
This did make me laugh a lot with his daughter who was unexplained how did he have one? But a good plot line it would have been nice to have more meat to the bones and the ending was abrupt. How the daughter was described was the most successful.
I should have loved this going by the blurb. And it did have nice banter and a cute kid but it was all very shallow. No depth to the story or the characters.
I'm a sucker for M/M romance and this story provides the humor I demand in my reads. The desire of a 5yo is very well portrayed. A light hearted and humorous read. Enjoy!
