He was Editor for Marvel comics from 1972-1974. He wrote for several titles at Marvel, such as Avengers, Thor, Invaders, Fantastic Four, X-Men, and notably Conan the Barbarian. This second issue's a bit more uneven than the first, I think, with more of a struggle to capture the magic of the film.
The bad: Pacing suffers, many of the dramatic beats are lost by the way the story is told; Luke looks more like a thirty-something hunk hero than the babyface of the movies, and yet at the same time lacks the same initiative and a bit of nerves of steel (as seen in the cantina fight and how he speaks to the stormtroopers); Jabba just looks weird here, completely out of place, and I wonder how they'll deal with his appearance in Return of the Jedi; and there was one bit where Uncle Ben ended up sneaking in here from Spider-Man.

"It was amazing." - 5 out of 5 star rating.
Just for nostalgia/historical reference alone, these are made out of gold. So much more depth and dialog than what you are accustomed to with 2020 and beyond comics, these 1970's hit hard and actually feel like a 'magazine' as Stan Lee would proudly proclaim.
At its core, this is just more of Episode 4/Classic Era of Star Wars.
But what is so much fun is seeing all the differences between the original conception of Star Wars and what it evolved in to.
The biggest Delta's here are:
- Jabba isn't a Hutt!
- - Yeah - you read that right! This was a big shocker to me. He is some goofy looking humanoid alien species with yellow skin, kinda has a husk-less Walrus face going on. I am so glad that they changed him to the slug-beast Hutt later on, lol.
- Obi-Wan is cleaving guys in half with a lightsaber in the Tatooine cantina!
- - That's not very civilized Old Ben!
- Han 100% without question or doubt shot first here.
- - Sorry George. I know you didn't want Han to 'gun Greedo down in cold blood' when you wrote the original script. Things don't always go according to plan, even for the greatest of the great like yourself.
- Bail Antilles!?
- - Totally new to me. Had no idea there was a name change from Bail Antilles to Organa. What a wonderful trivia question knowledge drop found here!
These are so much fun.
While starting a ~100 issue-long comic book series almost gives me a little bit of anxiety how much of a commitment that is, I am absolutely pulled in.
Can't wait to jump into #3 next!
