First of all this book as one of the most beautiful covers I've ever seen. Second of all, the prose in this book are beautiful. The author really does have a way with words. She can make the mundane feel so beautiful and full of depth. Totally captivating.

But this book was such a mash of things: family/relationship drama, the stress of infertility, PTSD, and professional struggles. I never felt like I had fully wrapped my head around any one of the issues before we were off and running with something else. And because of that I just felt very held at a distance by the book. It was definitely a picture of everyday life for these three people... but it never did quite draw you in to the story.

The blurb describes the book fairly well, up to the final chapters (except Genevieve doesn't exactly catalogue her orgasms; she classifies their types), which it doesn't really touch on.
What the blurb doesn't reveal is the most interesting part of the novel: an affair that starts, might or might not have continued, but that is cut short by an accident befalling a secondary character. The novel can be somewhat gloomy in parts, and drag a bit, but worth a read. It is generally quite internal to the main characters.

Awesome debut novel! I particularly enjoyed the delicate tension and subtle exploration of each of the characters individual personalities. Looking forward to more from Judith!
