Nestor deNeffo is a corrupt black elf intelligence operative in the Nambroc Knives, and he knows the internal affairs of the Knives are probably about to arrest for murder, narcotics trafficking, and treason.
The Nambroc Knives is the intelligence service for Nambroc, a black elf city in the Nether Realm.
Even though Nestor has made a very good life for himself from his corrupt and criminal activities, he knows he must do something to keep him out of legal jeopardy as well as to cap his illustrious career as a Nambroc Knife, if he brings in Quildor Burkain for his traitorous acts.
Burkain established the Nambroc Knives, but was banished from the Knives and the city of Nambroc because of corrupt, traitorous, and criminal acts he committed while he was a Knife. He had been a thorn in the sides of both the Knives and Nestor. He was also primarily responsible for recruiting Nestor to become a Knife.
Nestor learned everything about being a Knife from Burkain.
Nestor discovers the location of where Burkain could be hiding. He also learns that Burkain may be consorting with a bitter enemy of the Nambroc Knives: operatives of Snow Patrol, a snow-elven intelligence service. He has received word from Mage Tim Cryden, a true friend and trusted ally, there is a strong possibility that Burkain may have told the Snow Patrol operatives of how to get to Nambroc.
If Nestor is able to engineer the capture of Burkain, he will become a genuine hero and legend and he thinks it would be a very fitting way to end his illustrious career as a Nambroc Knife. If he fails to capture Burkain, then Snow Patrol could something catastrophic such as attack Nambroc. If this attack is to happen, Nestor realizes this would not be the ideal way to end his illustrious career as a Nambroc Knife.
