The Pretty: An Alpha MMA Paranormal Romance by Darlene Jacobs is a story of two polar opposites who meet and fall in love. Some like it hot, and some like it hot and pretty. Roman, a.k.a The Pretty, is a light-heavyweight MMA fighter. He is fast on his feet and crushes his opponents with his blows. He is The Pretty because he leaves the fight ring without a scratch on his face. His opponents fear him and the ladies love him. They want him and what he wants (or who he wants) he gets. Imagine his surprise when the new Gym Manager is immune to his charms.

Tuesday is a girl (the only girl) he can’t get. Her standards are high and she is a tough girl to impress. People call him pretty, but they have yet to see Tuesday. She is everything he likes in a woman; too bad she is not interested. But Roman never backs away from a challenge. And Tuesday is a challenge he will conquer. He was looking for lust, all-consuming lust. But what he gets literally knocks his feet from under him.

This is definitely a series that I will keep following. As this is the first book in the series, I am sure the rest of the books will be just as amazing. Boy, is Roman hot. I love sports romances and I love a heroine who gives such an alpha male a run for his money. The banter between these two is so cool. It reminded me of the invigorating banter between the protagonists of the Temptation series by Ella Frank. Tuesday and Roman are rounded characters who have a lot of charisma, charm and allure to them. A well-written novel that will make you want more and more and more.
-------

There is no man he can't beat, and no woman he can't bed.

Meet Roman; also known as, THE PRETTY.

A light-heavyweight MMA fighter known for his crippling blows in the ring, Roman got his nickname, The Pretty, for dominating the ring without a scratch to his face.

Roman has a following of men who want to bask in his presence, and women who only want a piece of The Pretty...

...the highly endowed piece.

What Roman wants, Roman gets.

That is, until secretive, curvy-sensation, Tuesday came along. An Ivy Leaguer who's taken over the gym management after her uncle's passing. Her tastes are platinum, standards high, her secrets, many.

The Pretty assumed Tuesday would be just another easy lay. He thought wrong. This one was a 'tough to impress' bitch, and that made him want her even more.

Finally, a crack in her stone-cold veneer gives Roman hope. He invites her to his championship fight where he expects to win big... in the ring and out.

But what happens next defies the laws of the universe and the rules of love and lust.

This is Book 1 of a 3 Part Series. Mature Audience.

I really tried to push through and finish this. But there are several glaring issues that could not be overlooked:

Jumped ship @ 9%. The last straw was when "The Pretty" was snooping on Tuesday! It was creepy instead of sexy.

"The Pretty imagines what he would do to this woman. He pictures biting her ass and licking her divider before he reaches her bloom. The Pretty decides that this woman up in that office will be his within the hour."

I don't even know what that means or who is telling the story. It's like "The Pretty" is in third person! Weird!

I normally don't read novel romances. I like the short reads. Also don't normally read sports-related stories. But I have o admit, that this was a compelling read. It started at ferocious with an MMA cage fight, then went to an alley scene with Roman (The Pretty) and a red head. I was drawn in by the well-written fight sequences and back and forth teasing between The Pretty and Tuesday.

Tuesday could have been developed further in my opinion as a writer. But she is not cardboard either. She is smart and sexy and has a secret she keeps from The Pretty as long as possible. This secret keeps her from going "all the way" with him. But what they do instead is pretty sexy.

I'd say this is good enough to be a movie, tell you the truth. Probably on HBO. I won't spoil the ending, but I am looking forward to book 2. Just entered giveaway to win the paperback version.

The best thing about this book is the picture on the cover. The fights were all right, I guess. I just could not get into this book. The prose was not up to my standards. You are on the right track but need more steam.
