Mike was a Soldier. His father was a Soldier. His grandfather was a Soldier.

It was his legacy, his lifeblood, and his greatest honor.

After serving two tours in Iraq and suffering one horrific injury, he figured his time in the service was over.

He had a wife and twin girls who he adored. He had a life he always dreamed of having.

But he was a Soldier and when the call comes, you take it.

He didn’t want to leave. His wife was in poor health and he was terrified of what this would do to her.

But he had to go. It was his duty.

Bill struggled with watching Mike go. They had never served without the other. He worried about all of the dangers and he worried about Mike being there without him.

And now the worst was happening.

Mike was missing and Bill had to face what he couldn’t imagine.

Mike was left behind.

Soon everything the adults had tried so hard to hide from their children had to come out in the open. People long buried in the past began to resurface.

Secrets were uncovered and truths were revealed.

It was soon apparent that Mike wasn’t going to be the only one left behind.

It was hard following along now with the children older. For 18 books they were toddlers and babies that babbled; now they are pre-teens. The new character developments were a little jarring to comprehend and apply.

Also, the end of the last book when the children were toddlers and babies, Stephanie and Jack were trying for another child. However, a third child was not mentioned so I assumed they we unsuccessful.

Content error - Naomi and Julie were talking and Julie says "how happy I am to be your mom and that Uncle Bill is home." Julie is not her mom, but rather her aunt.

Julie also referred to Namoi as Natalie. I actually suggested she be named Natalie novels ago as that is closer to "Nathan" than Namoi.

We also never really learned the cause of death of Nathan. It was hinted about so much and we never got that piece resolved while the adults were young and kids babies.

Overall, this novel definitely ramped up about a third of the way through into the novel and didn't let up. Yes, the situation with Mike was horrific and you just ached for Jade, but when children are involved with a completely different situation, your heart pulls in a matter much worse and well, heart wrenching.

To be honest, I don't remember most of what I read until the ending hook with Jimmy and then Josie.

Heart wrenching!

Once again Robin keeps her readers enthralled in Book 19! Lots of tears, heartbreak, and fear. Yet the love, faith, and positive outlook this family has is amazing! Book 20 cannot be released soon enough! Bravo Robin, bravo!
