**I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.**
This book made me feel deep emotions as I was able to tap into how it felt when I battled postpartum depression. The feeling of being undesirable because all the parts that screamed unattractive to me, my husband could care less about. This was a story about a couple married a little over a year just having twins. Talk about a literal double whammy. Once Minka came to the realization, with the help of a close friend, it was interesting to watch her navigate these waters. As she communicated with her sexy, cinnamon roll of a husband about her feelings and went to a therapist, it was then that we started to see Minka come out of this intense dark fog she’d been under. I loved how it showed her and her husband reconnecting as well. I just love real life stories about real issues and reading how couples overcome them.
My only issue was that it was too short. I wanted so much more, but this book was so good!
This was a very realistic look at postpartum depression and its effect on Minka as she undertakes her new life as mother to twin babies. I appreciated the realism within the story and the simple beauty of love, marriage and a partnership to help pave the way to healing during a time when most expect to be filled with nothing but joy.
While Jason is still his wonderful self, he is shown to be very human in this story. But he was very quick to snap to when he realized that what Minka was dealing with was more than just a poor mood. Minka’s strength to seek help made me respect her all the more from when I first met her. Together, this couple shine and I found myself relating completely to them and their trial.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I've given birth three times already, but I've never experienced postpartum depression. This story, Wrapped in Red, tackles this anxiety disorder most mothers experience. I liked that I get a glimpse of how ppd affects a woman's feelings and the people that surrounds her, babies included.
Minka recently gave birth to twins and was having a hard time getting sleep, running the house, doing everything. She's got a wonderful husband who love her dearly, but she couldn't get herself to touch him in return. She's got issues with herself, her self-esteem, her self-worth. Her friends told her she's got to talk to someone professional so she could move on.
This had been quite an emotional read, at first, but the flow of the story got to me. I liked how the main female character strove to make herself better, and I love her husband even more. Overall, the story was good. An early feel-good Christmas gift for readers who want to relax and enjoy.
What a great novella! it was great to catch up with these two characters. I definitely wanted more but that is to be expected when you are that into the book and the characters are that more relatable. Would definitely recommend this series!
Living up to a short its just the 12 days leading to Christmas
Back on Marth's Vineyard for the holidays and a peek back in to the lives of the gang specifically the lives of Minka and Jason (and of course Maya and Bas). Minka's having a hard time coping with much of everything since the birth of the twins. Jason has been gone more than home and things are cosing in. This was a beautiful holiday read on how friends are closer than family. They see so much more. They love you and guide you. The want to help you. Minka and Jason were a real couple facing real couple issues during the one season of the year that gets to a lot of people. Add the holidays on top of Minka's already fragile state of mind. Things here turns a few corners and open a few doors. The short does not answer every quesiton but it show a process. Proces would be the key for Minka and Jason. Beautiful holiday read of life.
Another remarkable read from the ever talented Mika Jolie. Jason and Minka has always been at the top of my list of All-time-favorite characters/couples from the first time I had met them in The Scale and I am happy to that say that has not changed
Mika Jolie delivers a heartwarming emotional story that will touch readers. Many of whom can relate to if they had ever suffers from postpartum depression. . We found Minka and Jason had welcome two babies into their lives. Minka was overwhelmed and what should have been the happiest time of their lives was marred with sadness as Minka's anxiety and insecurities has resurfaced. It cast a strain on their marriage even though she tried to deal with it secretly and pretend as if nothing was happening. I felt bad for her every time she started doubting herself. It was also amusing to see her going back and fort in her head trying to rationalized every negative thoughts.
I could see the growth in these characters. Jason was still the patient gentle soul who loved Mika wholeheartedly and that made me loved him even more.
This novella left me feeling nostalgic and pretty soon I found myself scrolling through my Tablet searching for The Scale so I could have a go at it again for the third time. I just cannot get enough of Minka and Jason. Do I even have to say that I enjoyed it?
A beautiful heartfelt story, and a perfect continuation/revisiting of our first and favorite Martha's Way couple - Minka and Jason.
The holidays are approaching and Minka is struggling and feeling inadequate. While in true Minka-fashion, she's in denial, wise counsel from a friend and common sense lead Minka down the right path. While we got the HEA in "The Scale", WIR reminds us that HEAs take work to be maintained. Even though she's a wife and mother, Minka is still a work-in-progress, as is her marriage.
Jason is perfect (of course he is), and not just because he is Jason (although that is enough), but because once Minka admits her issues to him, he is down for whatever. Minka doesn't have a problem, THEY have a problem. Excellent!
The timing of Minka's condition coinciding with Christmas, gives us that bit of Christmas magic we grew up with, and reminds us that during the holidays, anything is possible. Kudos to the author for giving realistic depth to Minka's condition.
I had a chance to read an ARC copy in exchange for a honest review, so here I go being honest. I must admit I am not big on novellas because they are short reads. Most times they leave you unsatisfied and wanting more. I have read all of Mrs. Jolie's books and The Scale( her first) was my favorite. Wrapped in Red is a stand alone holiday story of the two main characters Jason and Minka from The Scale. Minka now a wife and mother experiences the highs and lows of marriage and motherhood like every woman in the world. What I love about this story is it's so real and so familiar that you find yourself having girlfriend moments with your Kindle screen. Like the characters can hear you. Literally, I gave the RBF(resting bitch face) during some parts of the story as if I was interacting with the characters. I really enjoyed the story, and like all of Mrs. Jolie's novels I loved it. I highly recommend this quick read because you will fall in love with the characters. So worth your time!!!
As usual with a Mika Jolie book it was well-written, pulled at my heart-strings and just made me feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside. Loved Loved Loved it! Can't wait for the next book!
This novella reads more like that of an epilogue of Minka's & Jason's life after Book One,The Scale, than anything else. It was definitely not long enough to deal adequately with the legitimate problem(s) that plagued Minka. We also got snippets of information concerning the other major characters in previous books in the series. I really cannot see the purpose of this offering. If it was meant to deal with the issues that Minka and Jason faced, it only skimmed the surface and did not deal substantively with the important subject-matter, IMHO.
Mika does it again with this novella the continues the story of Jason and Minka. It's Christmas time and Minka just isn't feeling the Christmas spirit. With the twins being only 9 weeks old, Jason working out of town a lot and the twins not being on cohesive schedule, Minka is feeling overwhelmed. With have PPD, things can't get much worse.
Things are strained at home and poor Jason doesn't know what to do about it because Minka will not talk to him about what is going on. She refuses to ask for help and thinks it is all her fault. After being confronted by one of her friends, she finally admits to herself that maybe she does have PPD and decides to see a doctor to help her with her feelings of failure, depression and low self-esteem. When she first arrives, she doesn't hold out much hope that this visit will help. But Minka couldn't be more wrong. Minka realizes that many women suffer through PPD and is willing to accept that it takes time. She continues to see the doctor and goes to group meetings (which we do not see).
Slowly but surely, things get better for Minka. She becomes more self confident, she is willing to admit that she can not do it all by herself and asks for help. Jason, does what ever he can to help Minka out. By the time Christmas rolls around, Minka is feeling a lot better and closer to her original self.
This was a short but sweet read. I loved reading the continuation of Jason and Minka's story. This can probably be read as a stand alone, but honestly, the whole series is just that good, I would recommend getting the whole series.
Great story line with realistic situations and solutions. Awesome character development. These two were already great, this just added to it. Their dialogue (what there was between them) was so heart warming. You could tell with every word, just how much Jason loved and cherished Minka and that the world rose and set with her. The descriptions to details were done nicely and were easy to visualize.
All in all, a great holiday read!
Would I recommend this book? Absolutely!
Would I read more from this author? Yeppers! I haven't read anything yet that Mika has written that I didn't like and I don't expect that to change :)
I received an ARC from the author MIKA JOLIE-in exchange for an honest opinion. This is Mismousey very honest opinion of her book WRAPPED IN RED.
Having been following the entire Martha's Way series. I found this one - just as -no thats not right. This is was even better than all other's. And the reason I say that. Is simple- in this one we have a complete and different situation. One that can not just be worked out by 2 people. This one involves 4 people.
The way that Ms Jolie describes the feelings of all involved- is a unique talent. She puts herself their position- and it's like she is telling the story from their eyes. Her characters are so lifelike- and the feelings along the emotions that they are feeling so true to life You can actually feel them yourself
In our story WRAPPED IN RED- we find our couple Minka and Jason has just had a set of twins. Bas who is a charmer just like his daddy and Maya who is beautiful. But then again they both are- the only problem is they don't sleep through the night and they wake up at different times. Which means that poor Minka doesn't get any rest and Jason is dead to the world throughout the night . He doesn't wake up at all with all the screaming the babies do.
Now Minka is feeling that this year they will forgo Christmas. No tree- no decorations - she has no energy to put them up. Let alone do the shopping for gifts.
Jason doesn't feel the same- he wants what they have every year-especially since they have the twins this year. Minka tries to tell him she has no energy but he won't hear it.
One of her best friends gets her to talk . And realizes that she has the baby blues.
What happens is Minka able to come out of her depression? Do Minka and Jason celebrate christmas the way they usually do every year? Is Mika able to finally get sexy for her husband?
This story has so many emotions in it. You never know how you will feel next. Ms Jolie has does an exceptional job with this one!! I recommend WRAPPED IN RED to everyone -especially those that love romance. Mismousey gives this a firm 70 out of 5 stars.

This is a short novella in the Martha’s Way series by Mika Jolie. This is the story of Minka and Jason, two months after giving birth to their twins. Minka is suffering from postpartum depression but refuses to accept it. What I love about this Author the most, since I started reading her books, is that she writes about real issues.
Postpartum depression is an ugly monster that the majority of mothers have experienced. Some levels of depressions are deeper than others, but we all think it’s something to be ashamed of. When Minka’s best friend, Lily confronts Minka about experiencing PPD, her first reaction was to deny it. Minka is sure that she is just overwhelmed, she is just a new mother of twins who can’t seem to be on the same schedule. Any sleep-deprived mother would feel out of sorts, totally normal right?
But when her behavior starts to affect her marriage and she sees how her husband, Jason has begun to drift apart, she knows what she most due in order to save her marriage. Minka has to admit not only to herself but to Jason that something is wrong and that she needs professional help. With a sense of guilt, feeling ashamed and unappreciative, she has to admit that she feels “unhappy”.
With the help of Jason and a therapist, Minka is able to slowly work through her feelings and depression. It’s a very touching, sweet short story which discusses a very sensitive subject.
A very sweet and realistic Novella on my favorite couple from the Martha's Way series, Minka and Jason. It deals with them going thru postpartum depression. It also gives you a peak at the other couples.
What a wonderful addition to Minka and Jason's story. Wonderfully written short story that touches PPD and the difficulty some may face with reconnecting after having a child. 5 solid stars.
The gang is back but mostly it's Minka and Jason's glimpses of their lives that takes precedence. As always Minka's issues have kind of resurfaced but more so since now she has her babies. Jason is still bae and the best man that could love Minka the way she needs to be loved. Seems like all is well with the others in paradise, Lily and Adam, Claire and Forrest and of course Keely and Blake with whom it all started with. Lily and Adam are the only ones that have a baby like Minka and Jason. Also new members were mentioned and introduced and I wonder if Rafa will be next with Minka's babysitter or "help" as his leading lady. What was interesting in this short tale was the focus on Post Partum Depression (PPD) which attacks mothers after the birth of their child. It's a strange situation where the mother who by the way is a good one but feels inadequate, ugly, let alone with the type of other issues that one might have and in this case Minka has, well PPD comes and settles down because the door is wide open. From a survivor of this situation (3kids, and 3 running of PPD) I am here to say that yeah, this thing is no joke and if you can afford it, go see someone about it, because I do believe that the scars, the constant situations and the many issues resurfacing constantly, I didn't seek treatment and right now I still have it bad, real bad (even though my children are 25, 20 1/2, and 19). So yeah, I deal with it by always confronting it and push through reading about it but I do know it doesn't ever, ever go away if you don't dig inside with all the help you can get and you will become this mature, older person but very complacent, and unhappy. That said, thank you MS. Jolie for this education and enlightening of this disease. Thank you as well for a great series. I didn't read the others except for Claire and Forrest, and it's only because I prefer reading the interracial ones, preferably the BWWM (black woman white male) romance, but MS. Jolie's penmanship is very beautiful, on point, and precise. Beautiful and as of now, Martha's Vineyard is going straight to my bucket list of places I want to visit.... Thank you!
Wrapped in red by Mika Jolie is a Martha's Way Novel. This book is a short one that you get to read more about one of my favorite couples from this group of friends. It takes place days before Christmas!! Since the close knit group of friends always celebrate Christmas at one other houses, This year its Minka and Jason Montgomery's house!!! Minka and Jason's twins Sabastian and Maya are two months old. Minka feels very overwhelmed, which Jason out of town a lot from work. Minka doesn't feel like celebrating Christmas this year. Finally she talks to Jason to let him know she thinks she has some depression. I love reading about the bod these friends have and also I love reading about Lily's brothers!! They give each other a hard time, but also I know if they ever need each other, they would be there in a heartbeat!! I just know those books will be awesome too!!!! But somehow they all come together, with some traveling, to be together at Christmas!!! Will this Christmas be Jason's last will Minka???? Will they stay together? Will Minka open up or will she keep it hidden to destroy her???? How will the twins first Christmas be? Will this be the last Christmas as a family or do you think love conquers all!!!!!!!! Like I said this is just a short story, but you get to catch up and think of Christmas and the gang!! I give this book 5 Stars!
Wrapped in Red is a novella in the Martha’s Way series by Mika Jolie and it takes place right before Christmas. Minka and Jason have a new set of twins to care that they love to the end but when the pressure of caring for twins settles, Minka starts to lose herself and is struggling with the feelings of failure. She is distancing herself from Jason because she is feeling so depressed and unwanted. When she is forced to see that she may be struggling with Post-Partum Depression. Once she explains things to Jason and seeks counseling, they both start to feel better knowing that they are not going to lose each other. After that they start to find each other again and begin to rekindle their love for each other. I really loved this novella, I think that it was huge that the author brought this common but unspoken issue up and made a beautiful story around it. As someone that has experienced the same feelings as Minka, I was so happy to read this story and see how wonderful things turned out for Minka and Jason and how their family circled around them.
This holiday novella revisits Minka and Jason from The Scale when they are two years into their marriage and juggling newborn twins. Minka is struggling. Jason is a bit oblivious, but not happy at the moment either. They have to learn to ask for help, communicate clearly with each other and reconnect physically as they learn to navigate their new normal. I loved that once Minka opened up to Jason, he was completely supportive of her needs. I love their extended family and friends. I love the very real look at how overwhelming new parenthood can be, especially with twins. I love that this novella dives deep and tackles post partum depression head on as something not to be ashamed of, but something that someone can get help to overcome. The author packed a lot into this little book and I definitely recommend it. It is written in third person.
This was simply an Epilogue to Jason and Minka story in The Scale. Two years into their marriage, they're the parents of twins who are 9 weeks old. Minka is battling postpartum depression and you see the toll on her and Jason. After an intervention by her best friend, she seeks help before it's too late. She finally tells Jason her problem.
It's not a book or even an novella which is the reason for the two star rating. It's interesting short story but is overpriced. I considered returning it but since I read it, I couldn't in good conscience do so. You also get a glimpse of the family and friends from The Scale. It inspires me to read the other books in The Martha's Way series. However, I wouldn't recommend buying it for it's not really a book and not worth the price. Consider it if its on sale for 99 cents.
Minka’s and Jason - Christmas connection of love and understanding
Great book. I love romance, especially Christmas romances, seem to be magical.I liked Minka’s thinking about eating cake. That’s an old Bill Cosby joke when his wife caught him feeding the kids cake for breakfast…it had eggs and milk in it! One baby is enough but twins at once is double the ‘no sleep’ mind fog. And Jason slept through it all. But Christmas has a way of changing everything. A time for renewal, understanding and passion. Minka’s counseling helped her to understand that Jason wasn’t being cold but that he didn’t understand and how women think and react is different than a man. Remember, Men are from Mars and women are from Venus!
They are now parents to twins. However, Minka is out of sorts. She is not feeling herself and not in a joyful space. She thinks it's due to lack of sleep, but her best friend Liliana believes it is something else.
Liliana invites Minka out to lunch and tells Minka her suspicions. Of course, Minka denies it. After, brining an event Jadon to an end, she finally have a real conversation with Jason. Jason is always ready to give her what she needs when she speaks up.
I think this book covered a very specific topic that some women experience due to motherhood.
This is Minka's story after the birth of the twins right before Christmas. She is in trouble. The babies are nearly causing her to lose herself. She comes to cross in the road when she realizes the problem may be bigger than she imagined. Watch how her friends rally around her. Watch as her discovery leads her back to a happy place that aides her to a deeper relationship with her hubby. I love how she analyst leads her so many false conclusions but eventually finds her happy place. Great read Ms. Jolie..
I liked this short story, it was nice, raw and real. New parents of twins, that has to be overwhelming I can only imagine! The h is feeling overwhelmed and she feels guilty for feeling that way. The author did a great job of expressing the many emotions that a new mother may be experiencing. Basically what I got from this story is that it’s ok to mourn your old life, feel overloaded sometimes and ok to ask for help. Really enjoyed reading this. Nothing that I dislike other than it being so short, but hey I’m just being extra! 😉
This short story follows Minka and Jason to the time when their twins are about 9 weeks old - and they have very different schedules for their feeding, sleeping nd crying. Minka is trying to take care of them only on her own. What will happen when lack of sleep and scar will awake her insecurity again? Is that a depression?
Follow the story of Minka&Jason in this short story full of love, insecurity (we know it from book 1). I LOVED this sum up during Christmass!
Wrapped in Red is the book where we re-visit Jason and Minka. Minka has had the twins but feels so inadequate as a mother. With help from a friend, and the patient and constant love from Jason, Minka finds a way to deal with her feelings and insecurities which are caused by PPD. I found her struggles real and felt so bad for her. I loved that in the end she finds joy in motherhood and the magic of Christmas.
I dont understand the reason for this story. It has no real point unless you c count the fact the woman had lost partum depression, got help, and her marriage survived. You find out little about the characters except for the fact she's struggling. I kept wondering if the story was a romance, a mystery, or something else entirely. Hadn't a clue as to where it was going or why! By the time something started happening the story ended. Like I said, what was the point?
I absolutely enjoyed catching up on Jason and Minka's love story. I bought this book in 1/15 and although I read the story I forgot to write a review for it then sorry Mika. I decided to read it again after reading The Scale for the third time. I loved all the stories in this series, but I think The Scale is my favorite one. Great job as usual Mika please keep up with the great writing and these great stories coming. Thank you. 👏💕
A quick short read of Jason and Minka. We first met this couple in book one of this series( The Scale). Minka is suffering from postpartum depression unbeknownst to her until her friend Lilly points it out to her. This storyline shows how she and her husband deals with it in their relationship. I loved that the author introduced this subject in a romance makes the story very realistic and believable. We get to catch up with all the other couples from past books. Sweet quick read
