The year 2016 marks the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare's death. Why do people around the globe still study and perform his plays hundreds of years later? What is it that makes Shakespeare's writing timeless? This entertaining title explores the life, work, and legacy of the Bard of Avon. Was he the greatest writer of all time - or much ado about nothing?
This title provides a superficial look at Shakespeare's life and works. Each page contains text, photos, sidebars, and/or primary documents, and definitions of words used in the text. Sometimes the definitions are odd, such as, "figurative language: words that do not have their usual meanings." Also, all of the words defined are in the glossary as well which seems redundant. 48 pages of glossy paperback, which includes a table of contents, index, glossary, recommended books and web sites, this volume is part of the Crabtree Chrome series intended to give brief, high-interest introductions to nonfiction topics. As it could be used for research, I will add this book to my collection.
